The Night King is fast enough to turn and catch Arya, fast enough to see her drop the knife, but not fast enough to move one step forward as soon as she drops it, or throw her with his superhuman strength. Everything about this scene was dumb. And I guess I'm finally ready to admit it.
There should be an end and thats what it is. It depends upon how you see it, yes even though night king was faster than Arya, still aarya's one move got him. No one can be perfect. And what do you expect from it?? Do you think night king was immortal?. Good thing you only admit it by yourself 😂😂. Hell of a comment 😂.
@@genesisgenesis9888 But it wasn't a surprise was it? The Night King saw her coming, caught her, and saw the knife drop. It was the complete opposite of surprise. It was inaction on the Night King's part. And you can't even make the argument that Night King didn't know that it was Valyrian Steel, if that was the case, why did he bother to catch her hand in the first place? It was just beyond stupid.
Exactly! This episode was so infuriating because it was such an anticlimactic finish to the biggest storyline of the series. The episode itself though - absolutely phenomenal production value... the special effects, choreography, the MUSIC... amazing. Too bad the context of the season ruined it.
Terrible battle strategy, all main characters have plot armour and hardly any die, lighting is so bad you can hardly see anything, Arya somehow slips passed thousands of undead, terrible death pay off for Theon etc… this was a terrible episode, the story being terrible was just the icing on the crap cake.
@@WWESVRGAMER I have a better TV and adjusted the picture/color/contrast settings. I get it the episode was the "long dark night", but they didn't need to literally film it that way.
I loved the idea that it is actually Bran trapped in a body of first men, who was turned into Night King for a thousand years. He wants to pass the wall just to prevend himself from turning into NK by killing himself or his ancestors and change the timeline.
@@OscarCruz-im9hg I remeber trying to watch it when I was 12 . My parents kept walking back and forth so I changed the channel a lot . It was so dark I couldn't see shit. Nostalgic
I wish that Ramsey tortured him twice harder,if be stood loyal Rob could win the war,but its GoT universe, nothing is going to be as it should to be,even now in HotD
Fuck you mean???? Homeboy was a vain narcissist craven bitch. Yea ok he was pretty much a hostage at winterfell after his father rebelled but he was treated like royalty. He was Robb’s boy. Rode with him in battle, saved Bran from that wildling. Ned told Catelyn last time he saw her in Kings Landing to keep Theon close but Robb of course sends him to Pyke. Then Theon not only decided against what his father told him to do but on his own decided to take winterfell aka the place and people that raised him. He didn’t have to do that, he thought of that all his own and it didn’t help the iron born one bit in their plans. Then he makes everyone think he killed Bran and Rickon, but he should have taken both them and Meera and Jojen back to Pyke as hostages as soon as he took winterfell. He’s stupid and got no honor. Like he broke bread with Robb and did him dirty. That turned the tide for Robb. Ight if the iron born take moat caolin and deep wood motte it’s whatever but to take winterfell, he had to respond. Fuck Theon he deserved to die and his dumbass ran at the night king. If he would have stayed by bran, Arya might have not gotten caught because Theon would have had his attention.
If you listen to everyone else this episode had no meaning. To me it was the small intricacies like you just said that made this episode one of the greatest.
Jorah still doesn't get the respect he deserves. I don't care what anyone says, he's the only one I can say without a doubt loved Dany unconditionally.
I'm all for an alternative ending which ends when the Night King takes his seat on the iron throne in a collapsed castle with a camera that zooms out and all the corpses start coming to life.
@@elliotwatson3964 If I remember correctly he wanted an eternal winter, in other words he wanted everyone to be dead. Best ending for this show if you ask me lol
I have a feeling grrm never meant to finish the books and doesn’t care. He sold it to HBO knowing he’d never finish the story, laughing all the way to the bank.
All these actors and nobody stopped the directors when they said; Now we are going to film a scene were Arya teleports past all the wights, spawns in from the sky, screaming (to alert everyone) and then the night king and all the wights just watch her kill them all.
i think maybe he will give it some more time and tell it more slow paste but the ending is actually what he wanted it to be, so i dont think he would make this much changes. and anyhow, im unhappy.
Probably why it’s taking longer. He had it all planned to tie in with the show but realised it was crap after the audience reaction so is trying to change it
If he's smart and it this is the actual ending he had planned back then, he will change it, otherwise the books he's writing right now will only be good for firewood...
No, what's disappointing is that a 90 pound ninja girl, who would get her ass easily handed to her by any outbof shape male, kills tge night king all for the sake of "girl power".
@@youtubeaddict487 few people like you and me. I blame GRRM for not finishing the books. D&D worked with the "material" given. And here we are 2023 and still hasnt finished the books. What was HBO supposed to do...wait? Martín is the slowest writer I've ever read.
Everyone that wanted got a piece of Dany's kitty, but Sir Jorah, buddy almost turned into a stone man & fought as a Gladiator just to get an audition with Dany & he still didn't get access to the kitty. The merc & Jonny boy did, however. Both fellas didn't do much work to get into Dany's bed chambers, just a few wars here & there. 🤣
Lmao. You know he killed two children because he never thought to look in winterfell basement for bran and rickon. He let Ramsey (posing as Reek the first) flay them. And he didn’t even need to take winterfell. That was all his idea. He deserves more than what he got. That was Robb’s mans too don’t forget that and all it took was some coldness from daddy kraken to make him switch sides
@@SuperNormal_ParaNatural I think between the torture he endured, helping Sansa and trying to do the right thing in the end… kinda redeemed himself. IMO
@@farhany8129 No? GOT is just overrated af. There is literally nothing wrong with liking stranger things. But Idc about your opinion, as you have a football pfp 😂
Wish they had taken their time and made this into two or three episodes. The White Walkers were the centerpiece to the show for me. The first 5 minutes of the first episode had me hooked and they ended up rushing to the finish line instead of giving the audience finer finish.
This!!!! It’s my favourite shot in GoT and it’s paired so perfectly with the score. This piece of music is just perfect. Honestly the whole production on this scene is perfect.
imagine if the show ended like that. the undead army wins and everything will die sooner or later. i think it would be a nice ending after that episode if they dealt with sersei first and putting up there last stand against the night king. still, music, ambient and his entrance is just perfect.
I thought it would have been nice if they were defeated at Winterfell, fled to Cersei. Due to the immediate threat, they join forces, and somebody shoots Vyserion with that huge ballista. And somehow the Night King enters the Red Keep and faces The Mountain, because the rk is somewhat a bottle neck where numbers don't matter THAT much
Here's a tip: get in a dark room, turn brightness all the way up, and windex the heck out of your screen, twice. Now you can watch, and if you focus really hard you may catch a shadow or two.
As disappointed as I am with how they ended the white walker story I can kinda understand the Night Kings arrogance. He's had nothing but straight Ws so far. The only man he considered a threat had a dragon between him and himself. The only obstacle between him and victory was a young man, terrified. Followed by a cripple who was unarmed. He most likely considered everything done and dusted. So yeah, he basks in victory and draws his sword slowly, as if savouring every second, he didn't expect Arya, the faceless assassin to jump out, yet in the last second he caught her. That in itself is some spiderman level reflexes, and right before he crushes her throat she gets the drop on him. A testimemt in itself to her own skills. Have I given this more thought that the idiots who wrote this did? Of course I have. But I'm desperate to love this. And I'll take any excuse I can to not hate game of thrones, because I loved it all up until it turned sour
He only notices Arya bc one of his generals caught wind of her. That’s why you see the turn as the wind blows. They share sight. Arya’s plan was to get caught anyways and do a knife drop between them away from his line of sights
The Night King saw one of his white walkers disintegrate after getting hit by a Valyrian steel sword. The fact that he didn't layer the fuck up and cover every inch of his body after that to protect him from any future situations like the one in this scene is a testament to how braindead the writers are
1:54 I just love how Danny picks up the sword to defend Jorah. He defended her since she was a Khaleesi and when he was dying, she battled physically. Literal chills.
Theons Arc was beautiful. He was a stupid boy, became a monster, died a hero who faced bigger monsters than himself to protect the weak. Jorahs arc was good as well, he acted selfish his whole life. He failed his subjects, shamed his father, only to gain gold and love. Then he went east, started anew, but chased the love of a young beauty again. When he learned, he could not have her, his flaws came out and he was shown a narcissist in the talk with barristan. In the end, he learned what true love ment. It is not about sex and glory, but about sacrifice and protection. Many see an idiot in him, but I think you can find peace that way. Heartsbane is the ultimately perfect sword for him.
Find something else to cry about. You people couldn't come up with a story worth reading or watching to begin with. You complain about petty things like this, I bet you couldn't even put together a puppet show for the learning impaired.
You guys are right, he is no GOT fan, he is a ASIOF fan. But seriously now, I like both a lot, regardless of the different direction the series took. it was no game of intrigue and politics as it was in the beginning, but it was a fair ending and the battle of Winterfell will always give me the shivers. The army of the dead marching and bringing the darkness with them is one of the most impressive and terrifying scenes I've ever seen.
I find the dragon's collapse almost comedic. It's a huge undead dragon. Maybe it could have iced up or come apart piece by piece if it's a skeleton. It just fell like someone tripped over it's power cord and the plug came out.
From my understanding the Night didn't even to start the offensive himself. He controls or influences the weather in some way. He could have let the human army standing there all night, freezing to death and in the morning it would have been a walkover as wights to do not tire. He could easily killed his enemies with cold alone make them unable to fight except maybe for inside. He could just had let them starved to death. Meanwhile Cersei would have waited in Kingslanding thinking everything under control but the cold weather bites the city and people start leaving and dying. This flying Arya out of nowhere was really stupid. Her storyline was based on enacting revenge for those who killed her family, like the Walders but also the Lannisters. Having her nothing to do with the death of the Lannisters was really wrong in my opinion. Helping Jon to kill the Night King later would had made more sense. And for Denearys, she can go mad on the fact that her expidition to Westeros resulted in the destruction of her armies and some of her dragons , first fighting Cersei and Euron then go the wight walkers an what is left for her is depleted army, Missandeei and Jorah gone, not welcomed,, Jon is a threat to her throne because of his newly discovered family background, bickering in Westeros and maybe also problems in the cities she liberated before. Maybe she she had enough of westerosi bickering and decided to destroy to burn cities to the ground who did not swear oath to fealty to her resulting in her assassination. Jon on his own will decides to abdicated as king and goes with Tormund to the far North leaving the survivors like Sansa, Tyrion etc to fend for themselves. Well these are my thoughts on how the show could have ended.
Love how Bran looks right into his eyes- Night King stares back, feeling a bit cocky. Then Bran lowers his eyes for a moment and looks right back into the NK’s eyes- this irks the NK he sort of cocks his head like, ‘ how dare you it’s over cripple’. Enter Arya Stark
I think he looked at the Night Kings chest where the dragon glass was plunged to create him, and then looks back up with a look of pity and the Night King understands where Bran looked.
Random people that would’ve made more sense than Bran becoming King: Sansa, Gendry, The Night King, one of Qyburns little birds, Robin Arryn’s speech impairment, Tormund, A goat, Lyanna Mormont as a reanimated wight, Stanley from the office, me, and the list goes on.
I will forever find this scene funnny arya going AHHHHHHH just to be caught in the throat lmfao that part always makes me laugh n takes the seriousness away for me. I couldnt stop laughing the first time i saw this
proof that u could exceptional cinematography, soundtrack, cgi, and actors but if u have shitty writing it’s what’s people are going to remember “cough” “cough” attack on titan
Obviously she learned how to shadowstep, which is basically a hyper fast near teleport like attack move, you can see the wind moving past that white walker, that's her doing the move. Very common move in the type of assassin she trained years to become. And at the end of a shadowstep she has to become visible for a second to do the strike itself, but it was already done by then, it was going to hit it's target
I always wondered Why Bran didnt just control a raven or something with dragon glass on its beak and just fly right into the night king if all it took to end the war was him dying, sure he might miss once or twice bur eventually would hit, then Bran could also be useful and redeem 7 seasons of boring storyline
It's too funny to me. Like, this place is absolutely uninhabitable after this war regardless of who won. The wild north and all he places the Night King visited right before this are blessedly clean. Lol.
Everything's fine but it's ultimately the choice to have Arya, who only knew about the white walkers' existence for 2 whole episodes, to have the final blow that brings it down a peg
I think in an existential threat to all human life, it really shouldn't matter who gets the kill. Fuckin Samwell Tarly could've done it and it would have been fine. Hell, Mirri Maz Durr could come back from the dead with dragon glass shards in her coochie and let the Night King hit and it would still be fine. I also think Arya isn't a bad choice, and that she was foreshadowed by Melissandre in like S3 to do this deed anyway.
I like the face of Vladimir Furdik even if it doesn't correspond to the ideal of beauty. He has his rough edges and fits perfectly into this role. I just like distinctive faces
the whole episode killed the whole series for me. sacrificing the dothraki having your siege equip in front of the wall night king ( the nr. 1 evil gets killed by a damn child ) the camera angles and shaking + the dark wont let you see shit for half the episode - ok, you want to let it seem like chaos but i think battle of bastards shows how it works better. i remember this day as one of the biggest disgraces in my life, since i was a huge fan and so hyped, stood up till 4 am just to see this shit happen. im glad that D&D are the first result when you google up "bad writers" and id 10/10 again sign the petition the fanbase created cause of pure hate.
It's like Martin said... it's like writing a crime novel and leaving clues that the butler did it...then changing it later so it was the maid who did it...ruins everything and pleases no-one
Everyone saying Theon was a hero. When in reality, he charged the night king ALONE with a weapon that couldn't even kill him, dying instantly. Well done sir 🤓
@@DM-Oz It's not about how effective he was. It's about the fact that he stayed, when he once would have run away. In the end he had the courage to face the NK, to protect Bran to the end. He redeemed himself after so many mistakes. It was beautiful.
Sure you have a point but he had to be that body to allow time for Arya. If he didnt sacrifice himself, The Night King would have approached Bran before Arya arrived
I like to think that the Night King was the precedent Azor Ahai/Last Hero, who came to conclusion that humanity wasn't worth of all the sacrifices he did to save it.
i mean, the night king is a necromancer...killing a necromancer automatically destroys the army he controls, so all of the white walkers and undead being destroyed when he dies made sense...what didn't make sense was how he died ( an assassin screaming as he attacks someone: dumb. the night king not instantly snapping her neck with his superhuman strenght the moment he caught her: dumb), and who killed her :he faced jon several times throughout several seasons..jon had taken the mantle of the prince of promise who would save mankind, so the night king should've died in a duel with him. arya's motive was avenging his father, so her ultimate goal should've been murdering cersei, who ws responsible for ned's death and who was the last on her list. here in winterfell, arya should've been seen killing many undead, and even defeating a white walker, but the night king wasn't hers to kill
Jon decides to get into a screaming match with a dragon while the Night King takes his sweet time waltzing up to Bran, complete with entrance music and a studio audience of wights. Whereas with the previous Three-Eyed Raven he just came in and slashed the old guy without hesitation.
Every time you watch this episode you come to realize that, John Snow came back to life for nothing. That GRRM has no idea who the hell the Prince that was promised and went along with current trends that it just needed to be some strong and independent woman that needs to save the day. Why the hell would Theon stupidly rush an unkillable enemy.
