System is what a knife is. Not just a blade or handle or sheath. Everything together is what constitutes a knife. If any of the critical elements in the system fails, the whole thing is not worth having. Agree or disagree?

The only true "testers/reviewers" of knives on youtube right now are Pete at Cedric and Ada, Scott Baldwin at Choirboys cutlery and CBR and Alex at outdoors55... CBR is doing by far the most scientific testing at as high a level as possible without lab tools and it's impressive to say the least. CBR Is putting a tremendous about of effort in these videos and doing so on his own dime without companies sending products/paying for screen time and I 100% respect that. I accept pieces from time to time for IG posts and I speak exactly how I feel about said product and in most cases only end up doing a post for that company once because I tell it how it is.... but CBR doing it on his own dime 100% of the time really earns my respect. Because I know the offers I get and mostly turn down for IG posts so I know with him having a quickly and deserving channel growth he is getting offers nonstop from vendors and him turning them down and supporting the channel 100% on his own dime is the absolute ONLY WAY to keep the channel 100% scientific as possible and ture to life because if you deal with vendors they are in your pocket in someway unless you don't mind ending relationships with telling 100% facts on ALL products be it the good and the bad and all in between. CBR keep up the great work, it's not easy to get my respect as a youtube knife channel because I know most of the channels the knife companies are in the channel owners pocket and I have no respect for that. With that said there are a small few that I still feel speak truthfully and with the buyers best interest in mind (to some extent but not totally and there lies the problem) so I do have SOME respect for SOME. CBR doing it on his own dime and not allowing the companies to wiggle their way in his pocket will keep him telling it how it is and testing biased on HIS results and not being tempted to keep things out of reviews. I hope this doesn't change because if it doesn't I have no doubt that CBR will get huge on here and I just hope the channel stays self and viewer funded and keep the knife companies out of it.

Every normal person? I am not even going to touch that. Maintenance is important. But, there are obvious differences in performance from brand to brand and from knife to knife within a brand. I would like to caution you that "military grade" is rarely a positive term amongst veterans' brothers. It's just a reality of how military contracts are done and awarded and generally refers to meeting "minimum military requirements." Civilian equivalent gear when it comes to outdoor stuff, in many cases, is preferable, such as knives, bags, even pants, shirts, etc. Sometimes, even body armor. -21+ years Army myself
@CuttingBoardRx
@CuttingBoardRx 27 дней назад
MIL-STD-1472 is Human Factors Engineering. It’s available free in pdf format freely. It is based on anthropometric surveys conducted over the last 50-60 years, including all of the service personnel such as yourself being measured several times in their career. So the data is solid. Engineers design to these standards but how Program Managers procure is largely dependent on how much pull a manufacturer has in House and Senate Appropriations committees. Thanks for your service!
@InitialFailure
@InitialFailure 27 дней назад
@CuttingBoardRx woah calm down, in no way did I say MIL-STD is outright bad. What I said was that it's to a minimum military standard, and often, a civilian piece of kit in certain circumstances is better. I then cited some examples wherein I've seen this to be the case. There's a reason why most EOD (my field) equipment is COTS (Civilian Off The Shelf) or why SF tend to get contracts from vendors outside the normal DoD or DA NSN items that are already MIL-STD. The odds of you seeing a Ranger, EOD, SF, etc. unit rucking an issued ruck sack is insanely rare. Buy, they're MIL-STD!? Best of the best!? Government servants put blood sweat and tears into those designs!?!?! Patriots bled for them!?!? Nah, the DoD, DA, DARPA, etc., get a bunch right but MIL-STD is little more than meeting the bare minimum military requirements and that is usually a very broad and vague concept with a one size fits all mentality where comfort is a last consideration but spending as little as possible is a top priority. It's the government, and I love it, but it is what it is 😆.

Benchmade needs to fix their heat treatment. My 940 s30v is such a lackluster performer in terms of edge retention. In my personal experience Spyderco bd1n beats it out which is just crazy. Really interested to see what you’ve got cooked up for the precision adjust as well. My setup is good right now but I’m always interested in ways I can improve it. Also looking forward to what you got cooking with the Manix salt. Should be a more accurate comparison to the adira. I’m really interested to see how it fares against the adira in corrosion testing. My hunch is that it’ll be better but I won’t be surprised if there is corrosion around the pivot. Or coil spring.

SPy27 and BD1N are pretty close to S30V in regards to edge retention. In Spyderco’s s30V should come out on top just a bit but both of the other steels are very close especially considering you can get some models cheaper than the S30V variant.

@@CuttingBoardRxseems like Benchmade always has terrible heat treat when they first start using a steel. I remember when those 3V bailouts first dropped and you couldn’t even sharpen them because it was so soft the burr would just fold back and forth and you couldn’t ever get it to break off. I’m talking like 80 feet of cardboard cutting lol. I remember Outpost 76’s tests that literally made BM redo their entire process on that steel. They eventually upped the price and went to M4 which apparently is good. I know they do Cru-Wear very well now and that’s one of my favorite steels.

H1/H2 Is really a poor performance steel in edge retention as you know... it however makes for a hell of a boat knife out in the ocean if you get it in the spydie edge... serrated it does a pretty decent job considering you can leave in it a livewell in salt water indefinitely and it will not corrod. I have a h1 fixed blade that is like 6-7 years old and it's been in the center console offshore boat it's entire life in exactly the conditions I just described. It's serrated and it works perfectly as a bait knife for cutting up fresh bonito and cudas to get a chum slick going. It dulling isn't an issue for it's purpose considering it's serrated and just chews thru soft fish flesh... there's been times where it's sat in a color with saltwater for months on end and there is not corrosion to speak off after all these years. I would never have H1/H2 in a fine edge knife nor as an edc knife steel but for the right purpose in serrated it's really impressive stuff just because it can literally fight off corrosion to a point to where it's basically totally immune to saltwater and acidity that a boat/bait knife will be exposed to all the time.
