Yeah, the reason of why SMB2 is so strange, is because the original SMB 2 in Japan was just like the first one, but with extreme difficult. They were afraid that the players in the west got frustrated and disliked the game because of that. That's why they readapted Doki Doki Panic. But it's important to clarify something, is not like they stole some game and just put the Mario characters on it. Doki doki was not only made by Nintendo, but also designed by Miyamoto himself. That's why in Doki Doki you can see Mario items like POWs (from Mario Bros.) or the Invincible Star. Also, curiously enough, Doki Doki's game engine began as a Super Mario tech demo, experimenting with vertical style levels, so at the end of the day, it all went full circle. 17:24 In Mario's head, since all the game is his dream 😂 P.S: Good video!
