Gotham Knights is a brand-new open world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family as players step into the roles of Batgirl, Nightwing, Red Hood and Robin, a new guard of trained DC Super Heroes who must rise up as the protectors of Gotham City in the wake of Batman’s death. An expansive, criminal underworld has swept through the streets of Gotham, and it is now up to these new heroes to protect the city, bring hope to its citizens, discipline to its cops and fear to its criminals. Players must save Gotham from descent into chaos and reinvent themselves into their own version of the Dark Knight.

One thing I think is being overlooked is that Gotham is indeed open world, broken into 5 districts to explore, and there are civilians finally. It also says on their website it will be the most interactive and dynamic Gotham yet. I'm excited for the city to feel more life like.

simtrixs, I’m glad that you can counter, or at least evade, enemies attacks. Is it just me who thinks that making the enemies rag doll would break up the combat nicely, since it would mean that you’d have to jump from target to target opposed to just doing a beat down and repeating.

I think WB Montreal knows what they are doing. If goons are going to level up, they are probably going to learn new moves and a bit stronger and resistent as a bonus. Hey, maybe at a higher level, goons will attract villiains like Penguin

@@lucas-xf7rc Beacuse enemies will get new abilities as they lvl up and boss fights will have new moves. And so will you as they said in the pre-alpha gameplay you will be able to upgrade your gear such as armor and weapons. And also loot stuff.

@@Amazinglyultra They level with you, BUT there will likely still be higher-level goons. The real point of this level thing is not so that the enemies get more abilities as their levels grow, but it's very likely to force you to upgrade your hero as you level-up to still be a match with the leveling enemies, forcing you to farm components looted from enemies (or to buy bundles of components in an in-game store). That's micro-transactions for you, and that's why many players are afraid. We've seen this before with the last 2 Assassin's Creed games. It's idiots who buy into these sh!tty tactics that make other game-studios adopt this model.

@@Amory-wd3ws Traditionally when a game is crafted to incorporate a coop experience in an open world it can run the risk of impeding on the narrative. Obviously we won't know until we play it, but the fact that another player can drop in and help you face Mr Freeze at level 5 or level 15 seems to suggest that the narrative might not be as much at the forefront as I'd prefer. That's the point I was trying to make. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Me too - should have been set between Origins & Asylum. Would have been fantastic. Instead we get a game that's clearly aimed at kids with cartoony graphics, no Arkhamverse, teleportation skills (lol - keep hoping they're just kidding about that), RPG mechanics....just, no. Not getting my wallet out for this.

Not a fan of the enemy levels, loot and the lack of a combo meter (combat in general looks underwhelming). The whole thing reminds me too much of AC Odyssey down to filling a metered bar to use special abilities.

Feel the same - I hope people who are excited for this game have a good time with it, certainly don't wish them a bad experience, but this, to me, looks absolutely terrible. RPG elements, teleportation skills (lol?), and the art style looking non-serious, cartoony like it's aimed for kids is just not for me. Wanted more serious Arkhamverse Batman - the premise would have been enjoyable set between Origins & Asylum against the Court of Owls, but this just looks awful.

I just wish it wasn’t an RPG, I don’t really mind the co-op feature but i just think that the Batman series is just too mature for RPG elements, it breaks the immersion. I’m open to it ig but I really would have rathered that it would be more grounded like Arkham knight, I expected all four characters to have had specific missions and story moments kind of like gta 5.

I also dont mind the rpg factor but it just isnt what the batman family games have been in the past years so its very weird to me. I really wanted it to be like how you said, a gta 5 type game where you have 3-4 characters and they all have separate missions but you play as all of them equally and every couple missions or so they all come together for a big mission like a “heist” for gta but this is batman so for a big boss villian like mr.freeze

i like some aspects of what they are doing, the enemies look great, also the idea of playing as bat family is amazing...but that would be 10 times cooler in the Arkham universe...they even have it plotted that Bruce died, Jason,Tim,Dick are already there, just the Batgirl would need to be another but even that they hinted well with Cassandra Cain...the RPG elements of this i absolutely despise it, and the scaling lvl of enemies is weird, combat got dumbed down as well...need to see more to decide but i am not sold...not one bit

I can’t speak for anyone else here, but I’m really excited for this. It looks like a breath of fresh air from the four Arkham games, and an actually populated Gotham City is something that people have been wanting for a long time now. I personally am really looking forward to this. To the people annoyed this isn’t Arkham; not only is the Batman Arkham story over (SS just being set in the same universe), but we were never promised a new Arkham game. A new game in the Batman universe, sure, but nothing Arkham. Any disappointment that Gotham Knights is in a new continuity stems straight from the assumptions and pre-existing expectations of fans, and nothing to do with WB Montreal. Be thankful that the Arkham games aren’t being milked, and WB have the good grace to let the series end with Knight and only continue in a loose spinoff like Suicide Squad.

I agree, I've liked what I've seen from both WB Montreal and Rocksteady so far; of course that could change as time goes on but I really don't see what all the fuss is about. The only thing I wish was different was the tone, the Arkham games had a perfect tone and Knights definitely feels a lot different already but it's not that big a deal.

Apparently your enemies level with you, and as they get stronger they learn new techniques, as do you. Its not the case where you're gonna get your ass handed to you by a level 16 thug because you're only level 10. The gear isn't really an rpg kinda system either. Its apparenly a lot like Ghost of Tsushima, where you have a set amount of gear you earn through the game, and use materials to upgrade them as you progress

I’m so happy that the game is coming to current gen consoles. Part of me was really worried as I was expecting the game to only come out on next gen (e.g PS5, Xbox series X). I was gonna hold off on getting a next gen console for a bit and this has given me confidence that the PS4 and Xbox one will be support for a bit longer😂

@@CHRISCAMPO-wq8bi Of course Bruce didn't die at the end of Arkham Knight, the Knightfall Protocol of Arkham Knight is exactly the same as what happens at the end of "The Dark Knight Returns" (minus Alfred dying of an heart-attack). Batman fakes his death once his real identity is out so that nobody can get to him through it, which gives him room to breath, and actually frees him from that playboy-role he was playing all the time, allowing him to focus on being Batman, and to re-invent himself (for instance as the Nightmare Batman who uses fear-gas to terrify his enemies, as most of them won't be afraid of Batman as a symbol since his identity was revealed). But sadly, this isn't going to happen in Gotham Knights because it's not in the Arkhamverse. I REALLY hope that we'll see the Nightmare Batman in the Suicide Squad game, since that one IS in the Arkhamverse. It would be AWESOME.

Man they finally gave us a populated city that is living and breathing,The bat family, the court of owls. A city that has many skyscrapers, duel co op. Forms of transportation that don’t involve tanks. Seemingly no signs of joker as the main villain. THIS IS LITERALLY WHAT FANS HAVR ASKED FOR SINCE ASYLUM-KNIGHT and they are delivering. AND THIS IS ONLY PRE ALPHA. What more could you all want ? It’s not even GaaS. Just because the combat is different doesn’t mean it’s bad. The Arkham combat was new and different and look how that turned out. I wish the tiny minority would give this game a chance before judging so harshly.

Liverpool F.C. Forever You’ll Never Walk Alone because it isn’t connected to the arkham games and this is taken in a whole universe. They wanted something new and wanted to stray away from the arkham games. It’s smarter to do this because the last time wb montreal worked on arkham they got backlash. Also rocksteady had confirmed awhile ago arkham knight was the last game.

I understand thats its not related the arkham series but Arkham fans have been waiting years for the next game and this is not what people expected. The core gameplay in the Arkham series was perfect, especially the freeflow combat , but when you replace that with an RPG system where you can loot for better gear it becomes weird. This game wouldn't exist of it wasn't for the huge success of the arkham games.

I was a little disappointed at this game at first but it’s starting to grow on me. I think it’ll be a good game. It doesn’t seem that bad and the combat still looks fun. It’s just different and although nobody expected that it’s still not a bad thing. It’s not an Arkham game so it’s okay for it to be different. And the motorcycle looks like a good addition. The court of owls also seems like it’ll be really interesting to see how that plays out. The game is different in many ways but it’s still got a nice Batman tone to it.
