Don’t know why they didn’t end the series with this score. They kept throwing in that leitmotif in certain parts of the series, particularly when characters were hinting at Bruce’s future. It’s only fair that they deliver on the hopes of fans. Hell, even Smallville ended the series with John Williams’ Superman theme in the last scene.
Gotham's theme for Bruce actually sounds similar to Danny Elfman's theme, that is why you heard it in previous scenes. They actually did use a slightly changed version of Bruce's theme for this scene. Having an original score helps tying the series together, making it feel like it still is the same Bruce you saw before the time jump.
More than just a friend commissioner Gordon... because he's the hero gotham deserves the one this city needs.. he's a legend.. a silent guardian... a watchful protector.. A dark Knight!
The ending feels a lot better with Danny’s score than what they had. It was good, but it lacked that triumphant feeling the end titles had. The John Williams team for the Smallville finales final scene was powerful because it had that nostalgia that linked fans of the show to what’s to come. Danny’s score was needed for this very purpose.
I can't help but think the part with Bruce and Selina should have been done to "The Finale, Pt. II" from Returns (the part where Bruce finds the cat Selina left him).

Doing the right thing even at the same time it may not not be popular and some people may hate you for it, but always remember living by truth and justice principle will eventually pay off. It’s something I’ve faced before in the past. Batman was always my idol being that he was a symbol of the others who fought crime and corruption in the past and the ones who still today still fight crime and corruption. May GOD help us all and I hope and pray that I live and die truth and justice.
Since this would be his first year as Batman, of course his suit isn’t going to be as advanced as later ones. It fits in with the whole Batman: Year One concept.
