Satan hates you and all your being and God loves you more than you even know, yet everyone in this thread would rather follow satan and reject the Lord Jesus, would you truly rather sin in full rebellion and embrace eternal hell instead of abiding in the love of God and embrace eternal life. John 6:66-69 (KJV) From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God. Mark 8:34-38 (KJV) And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
I'm a 59 year old goth and here for this video! 🖤 I feel exactly the same way about hairdressers - I cut and colour my own hair too. We all had a real diy attitude towards hair, clothing etc. , it started in the late 70's and just carried on from there.
I am 17 year old goth and I have been a goth for a year and its cool I love wearing makeup and dressing up you guys give me a reason to not care what anyone says and I will keep watching your videos and supporting you guys!!!
Showing my age. I saw a very early Bad Seeds gig and Screaming Jay Hawkins was the support and he was fantastic. Came out in a Pink velvet suit holding a skull on a stick with a bone through his nose. Already an old man. Everybody loved it. I think it was about 1985.
I like the unshaven look. I also like the upside down crosses. Yeah, more 80s & 90s reactions, please. I grew up in the 80s - it was a weird time. I was a school kid. I really don’t know how I ended up all normal with my own fashion; I listen to blackmetal, European symphonic metal and yeah, other stuff like jazz and classical too. To me it all makes sense but I’m definitely not normal😂✊🤟🏼🪸.
Touching on Interview With The Vampire before the hit movie coming out, The Damned actually had made a very gothic song in 1982 called The Dog and it was a song about Claudia from Interview!
52 year old here, Goth in my [Cornish] Secondary school was pretty much Cure heads/Sisters of Mercy/Joy Division, availability of the fashions was pretty hard back then, some would get labelled "Top shop Goths" [Getting most of there stuff from High Street shops and just 'wearing it' with not much creativity, where the 'cool kids' Thrifted stuff] and I remember the sharp intakes of air as one Goth girl started wearing Purple a bit too [Velvets, Converse etc] I remember one kid in my year his mum went crazy cos he stretched his school jumper out all Robert Smith-like and another Girl her Mum Boil washed/bleached all her Goth stuff cos she found out she'd been taking Photos in a graveyard
Haha, I always said you don't have to be in just one box. No matter if it's the style or even music. And yes, modify and do diy was a must back then. Myself worked early and also have an engineer education, so I agree that they always think we are and were unemployed. Love see those clips from 80s. Definitive the time I miss most. Thanks for a great reaction video Connor and Lynn. 🦇🖤🖤🖤🖤🦇
Lynn! I think you'd look **impeccable** in platinum blonde hair !! I could totally see you rock a creepy dolly vibe in certain outfits with it or be like that quintessential platinum/white-haired vampire girly in vampire novels (which ps- I loved that girly she was always named "Luna" or "Star" and just a sweetpea) ♡
I remember late 80s Kensington high street was goth central. But I totally agree with the guy with the black and white hair, it goes back long before and refers to music, literature, film, and art of the gothic style and influence.
I've almost always cut and coloured my own hair since the 80's (elder goth here)-I've almost always been unhappy when I have paid a professional for it! I think your hair looks great Lynn!
You could definitely see the punk influence at that time. I was in high school in the 80s so it wasn't too common to see too much of the goth/punk look. It was more blue jean jackets and chain look. Not sure what they called that.
Hiya. I'll join in with my fellow 50+ crowd. Obviously we did our own hair, and thrift store shopping was the way to go. The bingo card was hilarious. I cheered when that one guy mentioned The Smiths. Anyway, the RU-vid algorithm has blessed me by dropping you two amazing and gorgeous humans in my shorts feed. I'm off to binge watch the lot. Cheers!
I'm also in my shovel buying years,57! A metal head, but absolutely love anything spooky , the 80s were special, thinking about it does a melancholy heart ache some good, keep it going, don't ever let it end, cheers!
I love you guys so much! After an extended, forced "normie" phase and subsequent mental health desert, y'all are helping me heal and reclaim who I really am. Lynn, I completely agree about hairdressers. I haven't let anyone else touch my hair since probably 1987. . Connor, the facial hair looks good. It kind of reminds me of the Master from the Tom Baker era Doctor Who. I like these explorations of goth history. I live in the USA. Where I grew up at, I was the only goth in the state. What little exposure I had to rest of the goth/punk/alt world was through an American version of a British magazine, I think it would have been called Smash Hits there, and some music documentaries on late night tv. Even so, I can check off most of the boxes on your bingo card. Again, I love you guys. Thank you for being here for me.
Great video!! Viewing these videos are great because like you said, it gives us an insight into the past and that’s super cool! I hope Conner is feeling better soon :3
Please have the Screaming Blood Drop intro. Beard looks dope, and was nice to learn that KawaiiBatFangz takes inspiration from vampires. Seriously though, was interesting to learn more about the subculture and the types of people who connect with goth. Also, I do my own hair. You think mohawks like these come at any random chop shop?! No thanks Sweeney Todd!
My sweet autumn children xwhile us elders where fixing invisible light bulbs into the many nightclub covers you're births was foretold, thank you for this blast to thr past xxx
Remember the influence of what you mentioned, the early 90's movies which were a great inspiration for looks. Films like The Crow, Bram Stokers Dracula and yes, Interview with a Vampire. I remember the sudden increase of male makeup after The Crow whilst clubbing. One club I remember had a video with sound off on a big screen with these films playing. Another video you may be interested in is "The Oldest Goth Club in the World: Slimelight" even if it's not one you comment on.
I didn't realise it until recently but Screaming Lord Such was one of the pioneers of Shock Rock, his stage shows included elements that later would be incorporated in to Alice Cooper's shows.
There were a lot of vampire moves pre- Interview With a Vampire (1994). The Hunger was a big one, and there were a couple of comedies, including Vamp, with Grace Jones, and Fright Night. The Lost Boys also pre-dates IWaV by seven years. I didn't have much to do with Goth back then but I remember the very brief New Romantics craze that lasted about the length of a sneeze before merging into Goth in the early eighties. Everybody's hair stood on end like that during the eighties... very scary period because of Thatcher.
Hi there, Oh wow, Goth in the 80's, I absolutely love this video, I really like how they did their looks on the make up and hair, totally epic. 😊😊🤘🤘 Thankyou so much for the video, I can't wait to see more, have a epic day guys. 😊😊
Okay, if I haven't made it clear yet, I think you guys are wonderful. I'm writing this from inside Seattle's Goth danceclub, The Mercury and I was thinking. You guys have said that you have Goth Nights in Ireland and I would love to see what your clubs are like. Do you have a favorite Deejay? Do they play traditional Goth, or is it more rock. I'm interested in seeing what the scene is like for you guys. Well, until next time see you in your nightmares!
I haven't been able to delve far into goth culture, but I've had an admiration for many years. Whether I fit in or not, there's so much to appreciate about goth/punk/grunge/alt. I can get being disappointed by the manufactured appropriation done by corporations, though.
I have always loved the Trad Goth look. Musically, I listen to a lot of 80s and 90s goth, although i'm trying to get into some more modern bands. In the 90s I dressed more Corporate Goth as it was easier to grab from my wardrobe. I listen to a lot of genres, so I'm glad that the Trad Goths as well as the Random Goth Couple encourage the exploration of multiple genres. That's how we get cross over genres like Gothabilly, etc. Go listen to Zombie Ghost Train, you won't regret it. Just remember, the main message is to do your own thing, embrace the music, pay attention to the art an literature. Fashion should actually be the last aspect of your Gothness, and express your true spirit.
Recently came across your videos and have been binge watching them. Love your take on goth culture, music, influence and history. Would love to see a video on goth icons. Maybe there's a few that aren't commonly known outside goth circles? Is Nancy from The Craft considered goth or merely taking on gothic aesthetic? Or pop culture icons that maybe misconstued as goth. Would love both your thoughts as you're both very entertaining while informative. Keep up GOTH-ED (goth education XD).
I can tell you a couple of things that had a really big influence on what became Goth culture in the early 1980s. First of all was late night weekend TV from about 1978-1984. This was kind of like the graveyard shift in TV programming schedules and both BBC and ITV really went to town on it. They basically got hold of all the B-movie horror flicks from the 1960s, all the long out of circulation classic Hollywood monster movies (Frankenstein etc), Sci-fi bug and alien movies from the 1950s, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, Mad scientist movies, Hammer horror etc, and just showed them all back to back for 4 solid hours until about 1.30 in the morning. All the punks stayed up and watched these and absorbed it all. Once it started to show an influence in music they just went with it, they totally got what it was about. This TV had a way bigger influence than anything Alice Cooper or Screaming Lord Sutch or Screaming Jay bloody Hawkins might have done. The other thing was the clothes you could find in second-hand shops. Sure, punks would often go along to Oxfam or some other charity shop and pick up various old rags that took their fancy. But there was a better class of second hand gear which could be found in proper antique and second hand shops, stuff the charity shops wouldn't take because they thought it was too old-fashioned. Well these were decent well-made clothes and these second hand shops took care to look after them and present them properly. The girls would go after the black Victorian mourning dresses and corsets and lace and granny ankle boots, and the lads would come away with grandad shirts and overcoats. Also another thing that's been totally overlooked by 'Goth historians' is the sound these early Goths made. Everyone was very keen on thin silver bracelets, like 50 at a time, and these made a jangling sound as you walked along. You could hear a Goth coming up the stairs before they even got to the bar. The girls would also wear ankle cuffs with loads of tiny bells. I think they got this idea from Siouxsie, but still they were very popular at the time.
Ugh the person that was interviewing the goths in the club was not it, he did not pass the vibe check whatsoever. I'm late to watching this video because I'm out camping lol I listen to all kinds of music my playlist is crazy lol but I do listen to goth music as well. Much love to you all. 🖤🖤
Eh vampires,, dark mythology, witches, horror. Like an interest AS A SUBJECT, hobbies or as a style, I think its okay. (The unbelievable thing is that people STILL asume the same things now). As long as youre not kidnapping people CA them and torture people to..."you know" by skinning them alive. I like the Johnny the homicidal maniac comics. Doesnt mean I want to k-word everyone that wears bellbottoms. (thinks to myself for a while). Nah, live and let live, I say. As long as I dont have to wear them.
My dad said one the craziest bands he seen back in the 90s was ministry he went to a couple concerts of theirs. Long story short the first one he was at there was a brawl and he got hit in the back of the head with a chunk of asphalt/mud busted his head wide open and knocking him out(this was before they started caiging their stages with fence). I asked what happened next he said he woke up with a headache and kept drinking/moshing. It took the headache away but made him bleed even worse all over people and everything no one gave a fuck 😂 he did get stitches after the concert. He also said this was the first time he seen or been in a wall of death pretty much everyone slips into two then runs full force into each other in waves pretty insane. My dad went to probably over 100 concerts through his twenty's.
The second one on this is a clip from a 2 hour long video on RU-vid called The height of goth 1984 a night at Xclusiv nightclub Batley. I was a goth at this time in nearby Leeds and while I never went to this particular club the music, the looks and the dancing are spot on for northern England at this time. Very different to the scene in London at that time.
In the States we were were always criminals instead of on the dole lol. Love your videos do a ton more!!! I'm a trad goth but love all the new stuff keep it up. Subbed
I was death rock in the 80's at least they are asking these people questions here in colorado usa they just used to call me Elvira like thats all they could figure out about it!!!
From an outsider goth just seems like a fashion choice. I don't know if there's more to it then that. I used to like to dress kinda goth sometimes. It was fun! I don't know if it bothers people who dress goth all the time. Sorry if it does. I just like to play with fashion sometimes.
Are those glasses? Cool. If you wish for intro like that make one. One trip to some old cementary with camera and applying some filters a little editing and you are set.
5:15 soooo true- what sucks is that people are confusing what’s actually gothic influenced, they call it emo. Or grunge 🙈 like LEARN the differences people lol.
I've just come across this video of yours about Trad Goths and I really truthfully enjoyed it......especially the part with the interview with the young female reporter and the way thar the TV reporter was trying to be as cool as possible without basically saying......." Get ya coat luv."...... "you've pulled"!!! Hilarious....yes those were the days....As you have probably have gathered , as what you modern Goths call us now.....i to am a Trad Goth or an Original first blood as we prefer, but Trad will do, just out of curiosity this for Lyn.......do these false fangs rub on the inside of your mouth as you seem to be in a little discomfort when speaking in your video. Just an observation, no malice in tended. Johnny. (V"""V).
I have to laugh at the first clip because they show two heavy metal (rocker) girls. in the 80"s any subculture was called "goth" from mainstream people. the girl with black hair with wide blonde streaks and the girl with the long blonde hair wear cut off shortes over tight with high heels was Metal. I'm 53 and a "metal head", I agree, listen to over type music doesn't make you less then what subculture you consinder yourself part of. there is more to the diffrent subcuture then the music that's why the are called "subculture". (a small culture in a larger culture).
I got some soundtracks on vinyl😂 3:10 and who doesn't like Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor!?!? Night on Bald Mountain is actually a really good one by Stokowski I would use that one as an intro personally 😊 4:36 trust me I'm not into crazy color hair not my thing, but I think peekaboos are adorable just an idea.
Hello! I've recently found your channel and i absolutely LOVE it!! I have a Question though.. Can I be goth even if I'm blonde? Wish you the best! Love from Germany! : *
After yall cut the last video before the end, the guy with the two chicks at the end answered his favorite groups were Specimen, The Birthday Party, The Cramps, Alien Sex Fiend and Virgin Prunes.
In 87 I looked like a tall skinny black crow with only one eye visible. My girlfriend had a massive bright red spiked mowhawk, shaved on the side. We went to Catholic School with a dress code dressed like this. There was only about 20 kids like us out of 700 students. 2 years later "grunge" arrives & suddenly we're the cool originals & respected by the exact same kids that mocked us.
What we think of as trad goth makeup now and in the 80s was definitely cringe to me in the 90s. Loved it in the 80s and now. Still in California, extreme trad makeup does not seem common - at least not at the clubs and shows and stuff I go too
It's funny to me because it seems like it cycles every decade, popular in the 80s, unpopular in the 90s, popular again early 00s, unpopular 2010s and not its popular again. In particular I'm talking about not just the makeup style but the use of colours/neons etc. Starting to see more extreme trad goth looks in Ireland with younger alternatives now too which is wild because it was never THAT popular here even in the 80s. Its hard to find any archive video/photos from Ireland in that time period of anyone with the siouxsie makeup. So we only took 40 years to catch up 😅
@@RandomGothCouple Interesting. Mainstream fashion often is 20-25 year cycle. Irl 2000s was still more simple makeup in comparison to what’s featured online now but things got more colorful and way more diverse fashion styles than before the way i remember it for a typical show or club or straight up t-shirt jeans. For shows and clubs people seemed to put way more effort in “hardcore” looks pre 2000s. More people having natural color hair 😅 Early 2010s I don’t remember much off-hand irl but a general hipstersization say Cold Cave or Lebanon Hanover video looks and in general I started wondering why social media was extremely colorful makeup and questioning all the dots and lines on faces lol. I fancied the dots - beauty marks though. The late 2010s and now I’ve been so impressed with newcomers modernizing trad. And I have a young adult/youth theory of filters normalizing a lot of stuff on the face creating a natural gravitation of bold makeup. A bit of a mainstream alignment moment say like that show Euphoria. As long as people are having fun experimenting with their creativity and self as a canvas, I’m appreciative and often inspired.
I think i stumbled into the wrong section of the internet. I'm not sure how I got here but the video was interesting and you should totally do the blood drip channel intro.
dearest @random goth couple, while i was listening to spotify, moby's go came on and it reminded me of the early 1990's ravey-rave scene... then checking out in the 10 items or less line. i find it equally entertaining and confusing that the generation that supposedly melted their brains with E now have settled down and produced children. for decades now popular songs from have been purchased, reworked and used to sell everyday products (and medications depending on where you are on the earth) the rebellious tunes we knew will be consumed by corporations like the borg consumed captain picard. i was curios what tunes current tunes do you think will be used to sell products and what products would they be?
I used to have the most amazing winkle pickers with skulls my hair was crazy teased I love this style so much and I am 48 now still have my inner goth 🖤🐈⬛🖤
New subbie here 🙋🏼♀️.. Are y’all Irish? I’ve always liked the goth look & like to dress that way & do the makeup sometimes for videos or characters but would be too shy too do it everyday & go in public
Music is a gift! that second interviewer is a complete *ss! I listen to everything, but my core music is always Power Metal. Playing the same music genre all the time is f*cking boring. Different moods require different sounds. Myself, 80's Power Ballads, Enya, 90's dance, glam, new retro wave, Rock n Roll. Everything depending on mood. Love the video Keep the Power! PMG
The whole thing was so young vampyre could come out of the crypt and be themselves. It just so happened a lot of them were also punk/new wave/glam. Human history can say whatever it wants…
