I have one of these that I bought 14 years ago. Always liked the rather deep bluesy sound it kicked out.

Hi Oliver, yet again, another obscure and vastly underrated instrument. These guitars are so well made and have quality hardware and finish. Kind regards

Hiya does this have the tone of a full size and thickness Les Paul (type) guitar? Cheers
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 8 месяцев назад
Hi Hisham :-) They're really small and slim and very 'top-endy' in tone terms but they look ace and they're superb to play. Nothing like a Les Paul really except vaguely in shape but they're really good guitars in their own right. Cheers, Gary :-)

Think Gibson should be a little concerned, as the chinese/korean built guitar's are such good quality now.
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 4 года назад
There are so many quality alternatives out there for people to find guitars that’ll do the same hisar a fraction of the price. Where Gibson score is the brand name and attached street cred but you’re absolutely correct Steve

Does it sound more like an SG or Les Paul?
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 8 месяцев назад
Hi Hisham :-) Neither really. It's very bright and trebly. Probably more like a Rickenbacker than anything else I can just think of. If you've found one I could definitely recommend it as a nice guitar in its own right. Cheers, Gary :-)

Got a mint Gould Tele a few years back. It was secondhand and cost (I think) around £80. TBH, because it was so cheap, I wasn’t expecting much from it. Without really trying it out, I raised the action and used it for slide a couple of times. It’s been sitting around gathering dust for years. I decided to give it a once over after hearing good things about this make. Long story short, I only wish all guitars played as well as this. Nice low action, no string buzzing, no sharp frets, comfortable neck, lightweight and looks as cool as ….. My only criticism, the neck pickups a bit weak sounding to my ears. Having stated that, this fine instrument cost me less than the price of a good night out. Hardly a complaint. Anyway, I’m now looking for some replacement pickups to do this guitar justice. One completed, I reckon this sleeper is gonna be up there with the best of ‘em.
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 4 месяца назад
Hi Sid :-) There's another Gould LP for sale locally for £80 which I'm quite tempted by. I agree with you about the pickups being the weak link in the (very strong) chain. On a Tele, I'd be tempted to look for some Seymour Duncan Antiquities on the used market. They'd set it off nicely. Cheers, Gary :-)
@appetiteforguitar

Cool review, what's the neck profile like please? Similar to a full fat Gibson?
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 2 года назад
Hi there Appetite :-) I thought I'd replied to this yesterday so if two comments come up, apologies. The only thing that has any similarity to a Gibson is the general shape. They're really well made guitars and the neck is more Ibanez than Gibson and they're physically very small - a Les Paul would dwarf one these. Terrific to play and I do like little guitars. Cheers :-)

I came across one these today and it was such a nice guitar. I'm a bass player but was tempted to buy it. The guy selling it also had an epiphone les paul but this one played and sounded better. It has Seymour Duncans in it. Very nice indeed.
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 2 года назад
Hi there Ray :-) These are astonishingly well made and well finished guitars. I'm slightly surprised that they aren't bigger on the guitar map! Seymour's are absolutely gold standard pickups and combined with Gould's ability to craft a well playing instrument it should be almost unbeatable. What I particularly like is their dimensions. I'm personally not fond of BIG guitars so these tick many boxes for me. Cheers :-)

Hi just stumbled across your channel, you reviewed a Westfield Strat , I’ve managed to pick a Westfield Les Paul, I believe the model is either E4000 or E4500 I was wondering if you had come across them and your thoughts ? Regards John
@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 3 года назад
Hi there John and thanks so much for subscribing :-) I haven't come across any of Westfield's LP guitars but if I see one I'll be on it. In my experience they're really well made and put most of the big brands to shame. There was a great deal of quality control going on there and I would expect nothing less from a Scottish outfit so I reckon you've bagged a winner. My prediction is that over time they'll gain a bit of traction (and value) as they'll become desirable because they're sadly no longer in production. Well made, keenly priced and great players :-)

Hi Trevor :-) Yes, agreed. Someone told me where they made them and although I've since forgotten I remember being impressed at the time. Couldn't find any other videos with the same spelling. Is it the movie with Will Ferrell?. Cheers :-)

Bugger, I missed that! I'll tell you what, though, those Gould's (and the Oldfields - which I think are the same) are brilliantly made guitars. I've got a really nasty Paragon coming up. I had one a few years ago and it was ace but I think these are the same as the Nevadas etc so it's pot luck whether they'll play ok or not :-)

I am glad I saw this video as I was coming to that conclusion myself but could not understand how a guitar much cheaper could play this well. I bought one 7 years ago and had not even plugged it in to an amp and gave it to my younger brother as a present for his 21st. Long story short he did not look after it and could not be bothered fixing the wiring issue with the jack socket and gave it back to me in the end. I have just fixed the jack socket myself and put new strings on it and it sounds really good. I have even been comparing it with a custom zakk wylde signature camo epiphone that is my brothers I borrowed and I prefer the action on the gould which is shocking for how much the custom one is.

Hi there and that’s a great observation. The facts of the matter are that firstly I don’t believe any guitar makers set out to do a bad job; everyone takes pride in their work. I am never prejudiced about the country of origin and the singular important about a guitar is if it talks to you. Not every pair of trousers will suit everyone. I always recommend local guitar techs. They’re not used enough and the value for money they offer is unbeatable and we all do it for the same reason- we love guitars, good, bad or indifferent. Kind regards

@@FoxysGuitarShow Absolutely agree, I have been very sceptical in the past so trying to be a bit more open minded. Is there any way of finding out how old the one I have is? No numbers anywhere on the outside to tell what year it is. I suspect 2000's but I would be interested to know. Thanks

@FoxysGuitarShow
@FoxysGuitarShow 3 года назад
Hi there Al and thank you, that's much appreciated. I would pick a Gould or an Oldfield over the Nevada/Paragon instruments in a heartbeat. No contest as far as fit and finish is concerned. I'm basing this opinion on previous experience. Each of the three Paragons and Nevadas I've had in were terrible and needed so much work to get them playing ok I reckon you'd have to spend nearly as much again at your local guitar tech as the original purchase price whereas the Goulds and Oldfields have been pretty much spot on. Hope that helps :-)
