Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill that will increase penalties for retail theft throughout Florida and seeks to prevent "smash and grab" thefts and porch piracy.
DeSantis signed the bill at a news conference Tuesday at a Walgreen's in Stuart. The bill, HB 549, allows law enforcement to impose tougher punishments for retail theft, porch piracy and inciting looting through social media.

I'm in Southern Cali and witness people come into CVS with a calculator, load up their bag's and walk out the door and cashier is not allowed to stop them or engage them or risk being fired.

I didn't vote for DeSantis, he had some policies I just couldn't get behind. However, on some issues regarding safety, he has a lot of common sense, he's actually trying to fix a problem, and he knows how to get it done. There's a dirty little secret in FL: even folks who didn't vote for DeSantis and who are not Republicans, like a bunch of his policies.

Until jail and prisons are made uncomfortable, It Will only get worse. The majority of career criminals consider jail a vacation to refresh themselves. 3 effortless meals a day. Internet, cable TV. A Law library, fitness equipment, a store... Link up again with the crime community. Its become a spa, with a very high fence.
