Oh please the only way this will do anything is if he builds new prisons which means raising taxes massively, DeSantis has failed to build any new prisons to deal with crime. My neighbor has been waiting for over a year to serve his prison sentence because there is no space so he was put on a waiting list and sits at home playing games and and doing drugs.

Most of the nuisance you refer to is people stealing food to survive. I will say it once again. At least 80% of the increase in retail thefts are food items under $50. When you or your kids are starving you will steal or do a lot of other things to feed them. This is from the actual figures from Attorney General Ashley Moody's own official crime statistics.
He is definitely demonstrating that it can be done. What’s lacking in other states is the will and leadership who are not afraid to tackle the challenge.

To Jax to Orlando to New Smyrna to Ft Lauderdale to coco Beach to the everglades to Miami and marathon key to key west.

Enough is enough, about time that a governor takes action in his state about these criminals. Whoever steals from stores, is a criminal, period, they are breaking the law. I don’t live in Florida but I only wish that more governors were like Gov DeSantis. The rest of the states, should be ashamed by not following the rules of law by “protecting” criminals which is what they do. I applaud Gov DeSantis for implementing this law. Thank you so much Governor. I was at Ollie’s and seen a lot of empty packages. Another customer took the packages up to the front and she said “this happens”. 2 employees for the whole store. It’s discouraging. I’m not wealthy, and I have to pay for my purchases. Morally and ethically I will. I’ll do without, not steal. This is not a good thing for our country. Thank you again and all the officers that help keep us safe.
Thanks to the Democrats for causing companies to reduce the number of employees. But as you noted, people are stealing out of the packages with only two employees at that Olies’s. Not walking out with cart full or bags full of products like in Blue cities and states where nothing happens to them. Unfortunately you will always have bad people, but at least if caught in Florida, they will get in trouble.
Desantis has been on a roll. He slashed tolls, and he signed a bill on squatters, and now this....i feel safer in florida than any other state, honestly. My home owners insurance tripled. My nephew moved out of his apartment because his rent doubled. And The governor and Grady are trying to put more people in jail. They fix nothing for us here.

I work for a national retail chain here in Florida. If any employee attempts to stop a shoplifter we'll be fired. Back in the early 1970's I stopped a man who was stealing a 10 cent newspaper. When we went to court the fellow said to the Judge that it was ONLY a 10 cent newspaper! The Judge sentenced him to 10 days in jail. That's why we didn't have a big problem with shoplifting.
