In Thailand, we adopted the same free-for-services scheme as NHS but I think we are much more efficient than NHS. Waiting list from GP to Specialist in UK take months (for my wife, it's 7 months) just to see specialists but in Thailand, it takes one day. I would think the way it turned out like this largely contributed to the working style of the culture. In Thailand, doctors work more like factories and don't waste much time out of the medical topic. But in UK, what I've learned is that doctors spend a lot of time building a relationship with the patient. But yes, I agree that the financial system is gradually continuing to shape the way for our healthcare system to a less efficient road.
This is good insight. Thankyou for it. I am interested to know how can this be corrected and implemented by government. I have heard from collegues in government sector that sufficient funds are made available by the government for innovation and extending healthcare to meet requirments but it is not utilized efficiently or it is often pocketed by the implementors. I guess there needs major work in planning the execeution.
