No offense to Kevin, obviously he's a good player to win a GP, but jeez, he must've picked this deck up pretty recently to not realize how Ricochet Trap works. That or someone advised it for his sideboard and he just dunked it without taking the time to read it.
Jamie Ellis He knew how it worked, his opponent and the judge thought he was trying to do something illegal but it was mostly just an issue of phrasing from what I understand.
Correct me if I'm wrong but could Kevin have one a turn earlier instead of let it play out? He could've sacrificed relic while Blessed Alliance was on the stack, and then bolted and would've had exactly three mana for logic knot.
Since they posed the question and some people unfamiliar with skred won't know, eternal scourge is so you can anger and still get your creature back and it's a super good blocker against something like etched champion.
More accurately, Kevin is not able to activate relic after Alex moves to discard as players do not receive priority after this point (except if discarding causes an ability to trigger).
Mitas just dumped cards into the graveyard before he even puts Sphinx's Revelation in there, I doubt there was much clear verbal communication. The judge should have backed it up.
I always find it interesting when people don't know how their deck works. I get not knowing how fringe cards in other peoples' decks interact since that takes a TON of time to accumulate that much knowledge about rules and card interactions and the myriad of decks in a format as deep as Modern or Legacy ... but to not know how your own cards work means you probably shouldn't be playing it.
It was discarded during the Cleanup step, which doesnt happen until after Kevin has passed priority. But this isnt really Mitas's fault, Kevin should have been more insistent about using Relic before he started to move cards to his yard. Also, none of it really mattered.
At 41.10 Mitas taps a Flooded Strand for mana... why aren't some judges watching over these feature matches, jeez these things make me go mad! That could have been very relevant to the outcome of the game, but hey who cares I suppose.
Oh yeah sure... I was mislead by the fact that he immediately attacked with the colonnade after that, but sure it makes sense. Thanks for pointing my mistake out so politely!
