In this video I have broadly over viewed the attractions and the drawbacks of GP training.
Joining as an IMG in the NHS the most fascinating option sometimes seems to be GP training but given the practicality of the job we need to think in the long run.
I have explained how I choose to apply for GP training and once I got into the training what factors made me realize and finally declined the offer.

The work is indeed challenging at times as clinics can be demanding and intense. Overall, GP training offers a wonderful career with endless opportunities.

Thank you for this video! I’ve done a clinical specialty in my home country (neurology - 3 years, whereas in the UK it lasts 8 years). Do you know if I can enter the neurology training in the UK after some months of working as a SHO? Or will I be excluded because I’ve already done a training?

As long as you have all the requirements for training and MRCP clear you are eligible to enter. No one can exclude you. Don’t worry.

@@mahicanam9236 the criteria is Candidate should completed a period of training lasting two and a half years from the graduation date on your diploma of medical qualification spent no less than 12 months in posts involving the care of emergency paediatric patients (it is desirable that at least six months in a post with a strong emphasis on responsibility for unselected emergency admissions) within the five years prior to your exam date - note this does include clinical attachments spent six months of your first year after graduation as a house paediatrician; if not, an additional six months in a post involving the care of emergency paediatric patients.

So you only talk? No ultrasound, no blood tests, no 24h-blood pressure measure, no spirometry, no... nothing?? What do you really learn during your training? 🤔
