GPD Win 4 Review: Is This The Ultimate Steam Deck Killer? 

yeah, really dumb review and bad timing. just trying to cash in on people searching for the new one.

Is this thing actually available now or is it still in indiegogo mode? I'm finally right to buy a windows based handheld and this seems like one worth waiting for...

Im caught between this, the legion go, and the one x player 2 pro Out of the 3 which is the best longevity wise? Maintenance wise? Performance wise?

@@Churd_ I mean, if they're all win 11 (I dunno the one x) maintenance will be the same, as will longevity. Not sure the legion has been out long enough to have a real good read on it. I know that I wound up picking up the rog ally and, sd card issues aside, have been quite pleased with it (I got around the sd card issue by installing a larger SSD)

Ahhhh that explains it. I just learned about this thing this week while doing some research, but could only find indiegogo options to buy it... Now I understand why. New version. Makes sense.

The laptop I'm using has the same ryzen in it and it handles blender just fine.

@@AnotherCoyote I think the only real issue you will have with blender is that cycles does not like ryzen APU. But really these machines are pretty nice all things considered, just make sure to give it a little extra ventilation in the warmer times of the year and you will be good. But mobile ryzen processors do a pretty nice job for most desktop tasks that don't depend on a nvidia gpu. I've been using one for doing sculpts with blender and so long as I'm not getting stupid with the polycount it does just fine.

@@AnotherCoyote No, I was replying to you and sharing an experience for the next person that reads this. Although I must have been confused by your mentioning Blender in your starting post. Cause you know, some people may wonder how X product will do for Y application before they spend like 1500 on that bad boy.

except this review is for the 6800U version, the current model that you can order from GPD is 7840U. absolutely mindless for "makeusof" to put out a review a week ago about an old device and not even mention the current one.

the win 4 has over 2x steam deck cpu performance, so 4gb vram performing worse is weird

yeah definitely weird but its true its because the steam deck has a custom cpu designed by amd specifically for gaming and the 6800u is just a normal laptop cpu but dont get me wrong the win4 is kinda insane i can play mw2 1080p locked at 60 fps no frame dips normal/high settings which is the same as a xbox one s which can only outputs 60fps maximum which is mad thats only at 8gbvram though if i choose 4gb vram i can only play at low settings but a steam deck can play it at normal setting with 4gb vram thats why i say the steam deck is better if ur using 4gb vram btw i have the 16gb ram version of the gpd win 4 and using 8gb vram everyone says you should only choose 8gb vram if you have the 32gb ram version but since asus officially told asus rog ally customers they can use 8gb vram with there 16gb model i thought i would try it with my win 4 and its works amazing no problems gives me more than double the performance than 4gb vram and can play any game at 1080p no problem @@DaGreenDestroyer

you can get "thumb caps", usually 3D printed caps that go over the thumbsticks. Search for ones intended for the Switch Lite and they will fit nicely. Brings up the diameter of the top, as well as increases the "throw" of the gymbals too.

@@MrHamncheez The issue isnt the size of the thumbsticks. Its the range of the actual stick. you cant change that with a 3d print mod.

@@nukfauxsho Yes you can. The "throw", or movement in the X/Y plane (projected onto a hemisphere) is increased when you lengthen the moment arm of the gymbal. The thumb caps increase the "lever" of the thumbstick/gimbal, resulting in a hemisphere with a longer radius, hence more movement, which translates into increased sensitivity

​@@MrHamncheez I dont think that would help as you can increase the distance of the stick and that will make the throw longer, but it will not change the X/Y values mapped on the stick. It will still have the same shallow curve but now with increased torque. I do not believe you can add more surface area to an analog stick by making the stick longer.

@@nukfauxsho Yes you can. The stick moves more. Assume a 50% increase in stick length. So a 2% move of the stick in a direction would normally be say 2mm. With a 50% longer stick that same 2% movement is now 3mm, giving you more sensitivity and precision.

Yes it does, went to the ROG Ally roadshow and brought my win 4 together to specifically try the dock.
