They didn't learn their lessons from the SUU-23/A that the F-4 carried during Vietnam. The gun pod's mount was lousy; it kept getting knocked out of alignment. Plus, the designated aircraft, the F-16, did not have the gun pod integrated into the sighting system. The only bunch that actually benefited from this actual model was the USMC. The bought the entire inventory of GPU-5A's to install on their LCAC landing craft, and proposed installation on the LAV-25 as a AAA/anti-materiel weapon.
I'm surprised at the claim that the pod was operational on the F-4 and A-7. AFAIK, the only squadrons which took the pod into service were those of the 174th TFW, which flew F-16s.
Ironically the only platform that could handle this cannon is the A-10.... however the pod mount still isn't sufficiently rigid enough to keep the pod from becoming inaccurate after firing.

@@adamdougherty216 Look up the history of the development of the pod, every vehicle it was tested on it experienced problems with accuracy, except when used on the A-10. And as the A-10 already is an excellent ground attack cannon it didn't make sense to attach more tiny cannons to it.
@@yoesoef4902 The pod was designed for smaller aircraft like the Corsair but only the warthog was found to be stable enough. Maybe modern developments of the pog has solvedt he mounting issues? It seems to be in service on the Thai F-5 which is hilariously underweight compared to the A-10.
I VE A BOOK ON THE F-15, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY THE F-15/E COULD HAVE 3 OF THESE PODS MOUNTED ON , ONE UNDER THE FUSELAGE, AND ONE POD ON EACH OF THE WINGS (DUH!)= 3, THATS JUST FRIGGIN AWESOME FIREPOWER!! IMAGINE FIRING 3 PODS SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH HE-I ROUNDS, STRIFING THRU A ISIS CAMP! WOW,WOW, WOW!!
Fun fact: Jane's ATF back in 1996 had a flyable X-32 based on one of the prototype designs and it was armed with the "GAU-13 Pave Claw". So that's not an entirely new idea there :D
