No, no, you misunderstand the superiority of that device. The stock Intel cooler is designed to run at 90-100°C, where it's most comfortable, which is why it never really bothers cooling things down.

I've been thinking about doing a similar thing, but instead of actually using it as the main cooler I would use it as a secondary cooler on the CPU backplate. I came upon this idea a few weeks ago when I found out that the back plate and other components on the back of my motherboard we're getting extremely hot on my lga 2011 setup. I did a quick search on Google and found that other people had similar ideas and they actually had some noticeable success in lowering CPU thermals by doing so. So now I've got this crazy idea to rig some kind of vapor chamber heatsink cooling mechanism with a blower fan on the back side of my motherboard. Then that idea spawned numerous other cooling ideas and now I've got this absolutely insane idea for a cooling rig that spreads all throughout my case! I plan to make it this epic project someday that I'll do videos on throughout the process! 😂

Just to keep things reverseable, use cables between the motherboard fan connector and the fan connector or to make sure that the soldering got done right, experiment with an otherwise broken deltaco table fan for the sacrifice as that is how I test things like these. Doing this on a motherboard is a tad costly to do in my opinion.

I have a fan that I botched together into a USB desk fan, all you need to make sure that the fan pinout is correct is a USB cable with one end cut off, and the Positive/Negative rails marked and stripped; just take the two cables and smush them together with the fan cables, and it will spin when you get it right. It's dumb, and technically a fire hazard, but it's super effective for testing basic electronics when the risk of damage is basically none. And as long as you follow at least the most basic of electrical safety measures, it's *not* going to start any fires. Sometimes the cables going into the earlier mentioned desk fan rig fall out because of bad tape, and as a result I've had a live 5V just sitting on a carpet. If that doesn't start a fire, I don't know what would.

I thought about doing this since GPUs generally have much higher TDP than your average CPU so theoretically it makes perfect sense; especially if you're trying to keep things low profile for smaller cases. Although it's kind of crazy that you were able to cool a 65W TDP processor with a cooler from a 30W TDP graphics card.

Pro tip (srsly). Standoffs like this on cooler seem to be pressed in, but they do have thread so, warm up the heatsink as much as you can while still being able to hold it (vice?) take a nut or other cylinder shaped sturdy object bigger than outter diameter of standoff and higher than it is, take a bolt, a washer and screw it in to standoff. If done correctly you have created a puller, that will drive out pressed in standoff. Work smart, not hard.
