After several years of abuse on the beach & in the bush, the GQ Patrol is full of rust & covered in dents. After my recent trip to Cape York, I told myself I would send it one last time through the $1000 Track as a wagon & then it would be time to chop it into an extra cab ute & rebuild it fresh & ready for it's next life.

should go bonnet entry snorkel didnt you say you wanted one before
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart Год назад
Yeah but I’d have to source an uncut guard, or try to patch the entire surface of one, plus buy a whole new snorkel, plus rearrange a bunch of shit under the bonnet, so just wasn’t something I was prepared to do for something that is purely aesthetic, I have a staino, it sucks, it’s sealed, she’ll do 🙏🏻

Looking good bro. Good to hear you mention the way the engineer wants the mounts welded to the chassis. Have you seen the new double triangulated rear 4 link kit coming from buds customs? Now you have the room in the rear (without the wagon body) for moving shock mounts there's heaps of potential to get the rear end working well.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart Год назад
Yeah for sure, I haven’t seen theirs but I am aware of the system and the geometry involved! Yeah I’ll get it on the road first, tbh it drops superiors longest shocks to the bottom so I’m not crazy focused on changing much of the sus any time soon I just want it on the road haha.
@bennyjahmin3953
@bennyjahmin3953 Год назад
@@timmyhasheart Yeah I'm sure your aware a good working rear end isn't about shock travel. There is pinion angle change, anti squat and more importantly how much it changes throughout travel, rear steer and roll axis or you could say 'stiffness' and no sideways panhard movement. Personally I have never wheeled the sorta tracks you have but would love to see your thoughts on how a proper setup 4 link would transform the car both on and offroad.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart Год назад
I’ve seen 4 links work, I haven’t seen a good one work, I also haven’t seen any work to the degree that I’d pause getting this on the road to add extra complications, when patrols, particularly a well setup one already outflexes most cars on the market, the pinion angle honestly isn’t affected too much between them, you have a bit more anti dive properties but that’s more about the arms just being longer and arm separation, it’s more so rear steer that I find a good quality, but again, that’s just an arm length thing.. I’ve experienced rear steer frustrations once in my time wheeling and that was trying to straddle a rut, the rear was flexed out and so it wouldn’t follow my front, it would drive into the rut, but that’s about it.. it all works I’m happy, just want the car back and legal for now, will add complications later if needs be.. In Australia it seems a common theme to just do things cause they heard it’s what you should do.. from silvertop TDs, to GU diffs, to beadlocks, to triangulated 4 links, to solid axle swaps.. just drive the car and if something bugs you enough maybe look at adjusting it.. suspension has never been a concern of mine, the ride is comfy, the wheels drop below the sills, and it’s stable so I wouldn’t change it yet, hell I had to break 5 CVS in the span of 3 months before I even bothered to go to GU diffs.. drove on 35’s and 37’s for years until I decided it would be safer to run reductions.. I wait until things are a dead set problem and make a call only from experience 👌🏻👌🏻

Cheers for the update always good to see more progress on the build man. Just out of curiosity what reduction gears are you going? I was thinking 63% in my own patrol, as I had a Hilux with 105%. And was awesome for a trailer queen but just way to low for a weekend warrior that the patrol is.
@timmyhasheart
@timmyhasheart Год назад
Yeah I installed 63% in mine and my mates and I could nearly say they’re not quite slow enough for truly nasty rock crawling and descents however if I went any lower I’d be using 5th low on some bogholes, hills and dunes so if you do a lot of diverse wheeling then 63% I’d go. In $1000 track I was doing hills and bogholes in 3rd and 4th, dunes I do in 3rd and 4th and climbs where you need a bump is 2nd and then suuuuper slow and tech is 1st.

@@timmyhasheart ok cheers for the info mate, I did think about the 85's but once again was just to scared of being to low. Looking forward to the installation video as I'll be doing it to my GU transfer case very soon.
