Just out of interest, could you tell me the dimensions of the tray, including height of the head board? You’ve inspired me to try and replace my standard try👍 Thanks legend!
I’m about to build a tray and just wondering if only using sika flex on the floor was strong enough and it hasn’t lifted? What sika did you use? Awesome build series on the tray 👌🏼
Dude, love everything but please think of the little things ...... guards...... no matter which end has the large over hang. Make your mounts for your guards so they can slide in/out @ 100 mm ( cover you wheel on road and suck it in off road) Maybe a small scrub / deflector bar above the wheel arch ( like a rock slider to protect it) you’re going to this much effort ....... I’m just thinking just outside the box but love all your work mate . Keep it up 👍
Thanks for the comment! We have thought multiple times about this! One option at the moment is to take the guard off, other plan was to sort out the bar work for it and tie it into the sliders! Main goal was to get the car on the road for now!
hey man do you have the cad drawings for the guards? you get a sheet metal joint to fold them up for you ? I want to do something like this for my no5 which has had a wide axle thrown on it.
Definitely mate! Main goal was to get it on the road for now and then will chuck some on when I decide how to do it! I think a combing rail will be best!
Don’t you need rubber or an isolation between the steel and Ali? Or did I miss something, Just so the Ali doesn’t oxidise and ruin the paint 🤙 Looking Good
@@RoamLyfe Ahhh, I work in marine ship building so basically get drilled into us to always use rubber hence why I asked 😂 Looks the goods mate keep it up 👍
I spoke to a professional tray maker and that’s all he has ever done! It’s all done underneath too and when a canopy or tie down points go on they will bolt through the floor! So won’t go anywhere! 👌
you have no idea about sikka coach builders stick sides on busses with it and we use it on semi trailers the summer heat wont do shit once that shits on it doesnt come off
Yo, quick question I am building a steel ute tray at the moment for my Dmax - can I SikaFlex a steel floor to the steel frame? I’m okay with welding it but this idea seems good too as I can put the floor on after I place it on the Ute...
ive been welding for 30yrs and when you get a amateur welder teaching another amateur welder you only get 2 shit welders because your frame will be out of square mate if you dont clamp it to a heavy bench.
This isn’t really about being perfect! I appreciate your advise and 30 years is crazy but we are just learning! The tray is perfectly square, corner to corner is less than 0.2mm
