Hey John, looks like you still haven't cleaned your lens, there's a spec of dust right in the middle of the frame, about 1/6 from the top. It's there since the Z3 video, it drove me nuts trying to clean my screen :) We'll be talking about those GR Bass amps.

Thanks again Will. Please be on the lookout for a guy in a brown suit driving a brown truck carrying a large but shockingly lightweight box to your doorstep sometime in the next few days! Then ENJOY!!!

The jump from the 1st cab to the second was quite evident in low end articulation, clean headroom, clarity and responsiveness across the entire frequency range.. At least to my ear & though my headphones (as well as possible, or even probable subjective taste bias). But regardless I wasn’t expecting that distinctive a contrast..

Your comment intrigued me. It occurred to me that if the microphone placement was off by even 1/8 or 1/4 of an inch from one speaker to the other, it could make a significant difference. So I'm thinking that to do a fair and 100% accurate comparison, perhaps what I should do is mark the speaker location on the floor, place the microphone and tape it down in place, and then swap the speakers, putting them both in the exact same location, and not letting the mic move. I'll put that in my queue for a rainy day experiment. I just got another shipment of 212s last week, with quite a few in stock of each model, so I can once again do some experimenting. Thanks for watching, and for your thoughtful comment!

I’ve been looking for a backup for my beloved Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 12T, and have heard a lot of good things about the GR amps, but I’m very hesitant to invest in them without playing through them. I recently had a chance to visit my old Washington DC area music store haunt which carries the GR line, so I got a chance to play the 800 head through a variety of the carbon fiber cabinets. The lightness of the cabs is stunning of course, but the tone is also amazing. I played through everything they had, including the AT-115, AT-212+, AT 210V+, AT 110, and the 6x10 (which would be overkill for me). While they all sounded great, I was especially drawn to the 1x15. I’m a P bass guy and the 1x15 just had a deep beautiful buttery tone that matched the passive P bass so well. That’s the one I think I’m gonna get. Have you played through the 1x15?

@@pumpichank Oh yes, absolutely. I love it! It is awesome by itself, but when you put the matching 210 on top of it, the tone is unbeatable, it is a killer, killer rig. I do have the 115 here in stock, I just haven't had time to make a video yet of it. They keep selling out as fast as they come in.

@@JohnFoxBass Nice, thanks! I suppose the 8ohm 115 is the one to get, paired with the 800 One head, it gives you the option to expand to the 210 later?

Oh this is very cool. I've been interested in GR for a while now. Been particularly interested in something like the Pure amp. I'd love to see a demo of that with a nice EQ or preamp pedal, maybe like the Bergantino pre!
@JohnFoxBass
@JohnFoxBass Год назад
I did not receive any of the pure amps in this first shipment, but they should be coming around the end of October or early November. But the ONE and DUAL amps have a switch right on the front panel for pure mode, which takes the entire EQ section out and gives you the same thing, just your clean bass input going straight out to the amplifier section. Then of course your tone is entirely shaped by whatever else you have between the bass and the amp, same as if you ran the output of that through a DI straight into the mixing board.
@chrisjs6123
@chrisjs6123 Год назад
I looked at the pure but didn't see the point given the standard amps have the ability to run in pure mode and are barely more expensive. I have the 212 Slim+ with a Bergantino HP Forte and it's a killer combination. I also have the Berg REfII 15 and 12 stack but the GR is 1/3 of the weight and honestly puts out just as much low end.

i don't know if it's the amp or the bass but man that sounds amazing

Well, when you combine a great bass with a great amp and a great speaker, it sounds great, regardless of how mediocre the player might be. In this case, all three components are top notch. That bass sounds fantastic through any rig, and every bass I have tried sounds fantastic through this GR setup. If somebody has money only enough to buy one piece out of the three, I would say the one that's probably the most critical is the speaker, then the bass, and last, the amp. But yeah, it's an integrated system and every piece contributes.

What would you recommend to replace a 410HLF Ampeg? I’d like to find something smaller and lighter!
@JohnFoxBass
@JohnFoxBass Год назад
Hi Jenny, well, the GR Bass AT 410 is probably around the same size, but it is 46 lb lighter than the Ampeg! (30 lbs. vs. 76 lbs), and it probably sounds as good if not better. I can pick up the 410 with one finger. If that is not small and light enough, a 210 is only 18 lb, and you could use two of those, or put one on top of a 112 and still get huge sound with a rig that a 5-year-old kid could easily carry.

I ordered a 2x10 last spring. Right out of the box it shakes and trembles like crazy and keeps a resonance noise. Not sure what the problem is. Taking it back to get checked
@JohnFoxBass

That's very strange. I just received 39 speakers and every one of them was absolutely perfect. They all sound fantastic. Most of them are already sold, and customers are very happy. They do have a 5-year warranty, and the company is very responsive, so if there is a problem, I'm sure they will take care of you right away. Where are you located? Maybe it got dropped during shipping? They are pretty well protected by packing material, but if the carrier dropped it from a large distance, there's no telling what might have happened inside the box. Also, they test every speaker before they ship them. So I'm sure it was fine when it left the factory.

Hi John, is there much difference between the 212 slim+ and the standard 212+? Might the 212 slim+ be enough as a stand-alone with a middle-loud drummer?
@JohnFoxBass
@JohnFoxBass 8 месяцев назад
Surprisingly, there is not much discernible difference. You might think the larger cabinet would move a lot more air, but those two ports on the rear of the slim cabinet push out a massive amount of sound that really fills the space very well. The Slim+ is super punchy and of course that much easier to transport since it's 5 inches narrower. GR tells me that the Slim model outsells the regular one by quite a bit. I was not surprised.
