I find the 2x10 combo to have a better all around sound than the 12 cab. I find the 112 to be more low-mid focused and nasally, whereas the 210 gives you more of that left hand piano tone.

There is no denying that the 12" speaker carrys more lows than the 10s

The additional low frequency of the 12 is very apparent. Great comparison John!

So which one do you prefer? For me, all 12" I've heard so far have one anoying, honky, nasal hi mid frequency. Seems to be the case here too.....but I wasn't in the room and can't say for sure.

@@zeljkozuber6629 To me, the very best sound is the 210 sitting on top of a 115. If I cannot have an extension cabinet, then the one that sounds best would depend on the bass and playing style and what type of band. The 12" has a little more low mid punch, the 2x10" doesn't have the low mid punch, it is more even across the frequency range. I would use the 12 for Motown and classic rock and I would use the 210 for jazz. For funk and metal, I would really want the 210 and the 115.

@@JohnFoxBass Yep, I used 210+115 for long time but in last 10 years I've settled on two 210 cabs, cause I get even better results. Thou I use FMC cabs. Different brands(and speakers).....different results. Advantage of FMC cabs is, whichever amp head you use, it sounds good. Right now it's GR 800.

I thought I read a Talkbass comment a while back that there is a 212 Combo also~ do you know if they have one? Beyond that I would love to see a 115 Combo

You can see all of their products on grbass.com/products/ There is no 212 combo. But there is an Active 212 Slim cabinet. So it is the 212 with an 800 w amp built in. You can actually plug a bass directly into it and it works fine, no additional equipment is needed. But the only EQ you will have is whatever EQ is available on your instrument, aside from the small high and low frequency trim pots available on the back of the cabinet. You need a small screwdriver to adjust those, so you would not be touching them during a gig.

@@JohnFoxBass Ok got it~ the only other question I have is~ why does GR not integrate their awesome compressor from the Dual Pre into their powered heads? Maybe you can ask him lol

@@jmsmikey yeah, I wondered that myself. I assumed it was for front panel real estate reasons. Could be that the amps were designed before the idea for adding a compressor, and It would be a pretty huge undertaking, let alone the cost of it, to go back and re-architect the entire amp layout. Think about how much is involved - circuit board redesign, new front panel and graphics, a whole lot of work. But it's a good point, and I'll ask just to see what he has to say about it. Thanks for mentioning.

Do a 115 review please!

The problem is that if I do a 115 review, 100 people are going to want one right away, and I only have one in stock right now. In all seriousness, all these GR speakers are excellent, but the 115 with the 210 on top produces the most glorious bass tone I have heard in my entire life. A pro out in Detroit just picked up a 210/115 stack, and he and his band had the exact same opinion.

@@JohnFoxBass So start your own 115 + 210 revolution with a 'Gohn Fox GR Special Mini Stack'. What a great combo it would be with the 1400 single head~ the 115 & 210 will naturally have slightly different power needs and the dual 700 watt power sections with independent volume will address that perfectly. Of course the whole thing will weigh less then 50lbs. I just wish they would incorporate a compressor into their heads like they have in their dual preamp. I already reached out to Gianfranco about the compressor & he said 'Yea, maybe we will do that'. I also suggessted a 2x15 Slim & he said 'Yea, maybe we will do that' lol
