You are absolutely right! There's other people that find something unique about you that you don't see yourself. When you look in the mirror you just see your reflection of your self........not beyond the art of a master piece which is yourself of being a human canvas that someone besides yourself paint you as 🎨🎭. If that makes sense!

Grace Jones is one of the most beautiful and classy women to have ever existed. Everything about her is iconic, she dances to the beat of her own drum and is a true inspiration for black women. I feel that Grace was the first commercially successful woman to challenge the male gaze and not conform. She showed that you don't have to wear dresses or have long hair to be beautiful. She shows me that it's most important to look how I want to look and worry about everyone else later. 💗

I have to disagree. She didnt fit the standards we as women have for ourselves. A lot more women would find her "unattractive" just for being a black woman with short hair and "strong" features however more men were fascinated and attracted to her because of her. She didnt "look" like the women in magazines but she was an EXTREMELY sexual and feminine person. She is the type of woman who other women would complain about because they dont understand why men like them so much. Grace being EXTREMELY Feminine, sexual and gorgeous "made up" for her having short hair which is usually not part of the male gaze

Grace Jones is a work of art. As a white male art student in the '80's, I can tell you that pretty much all male art students (gay or straight) had posters of Jones (along with Pete Burns, ironically) on their walls. The "white objectivity" thing is false imo: 1. Most of her fans were white males (mostly gay, in my personal observation). 2. Her white fans enjoyed her personality and music as well. She is what Yoko Ono tries to be, imo. 3. Beauty is universal...no color requirement that I'm aware of. Good vid!

The French modeling agencies discriminate. When I tried to get into modeling, I would walk into agencies in Paris, and they would say... "Sorry! we already have 2 black girls... Or "sorry, you are beautiful but we can't represent you because of your height, black models don't work, they only do shows". I had to move to the US to be be able to find representation and work. I guess everyone jas a different experience. John Casablancas was most likely a racist under cover. As far as Jean Paul Goude. No wonder they split... He said she looked hideous and grotesque, I dont care if he said that she is beautiful right next to it... That's like gaslighting.

As an 80s baby we grew up seeing GRACE JONES everywhere. The explanation of her not being a so called conventional beauty maybe not necessary her career speaks for itself. She was a triple threat - model, singer and actress. She was a BOND GIRL. A MUSE for many artists, A 54 studio star!- she broke the mode of so called conventional beauty and they did not want someone like her to happen again because she is a dark beauty that most knew in her presence they could not resist! She dated who she wanted and men melted before her. Her image and music is used from Biggie Smalls and Shine to Amber Rose and Kim Kardashian poses. Anyone with eyes, taste and are truly free of the mind not being sheeple that conform to fit in can see she is an ICON. Grace Jones is one of the reasons I excel as a dark skinned beauty and never let colorism affect me. She taught me conventional is for the peasants - unconventional is for the sophisticated. They want a rare stone diamond not glass that’s everywhere 💁🏾‍♀️. You did an AMAZING job on this video - Thank you 🙏🏾

I grew up in the '80s and '90s, and Grace Jones was still a byword for scary, unattractively masculine woman. I still remember a couple of In Living Color sketches that highlighted this, and I took that image to heart without ever having seen her or heard her music. With the internet, I discovered the real Grace Jones, and think that she is one of the most strikingly beautiful, talented women of all time. Knowing what I know now, it's a shame that she was known more as a caricature because she dared to be a strong, unconventional woman who defied nearly all of the standards that we live with to this day.

Yesss.. I love how her androgynous equal, to you, is David bowie. 👏 . I love this point you just made. 👏 👏 I can see the similarities. 😊. ( i agree). Grace and David were both stunning. 👍

I think the best way to ensure that your child will be wild and rebellious is to beat them and generally be abusive to them much like the adults in Grace Jones’ childhood. Guaranteed!!! Serves them right because what are the children supposed to do: submit?! Good for her!! Growing up, she was definitely an inspiration and her strength and femininity were very important and powerful.

I knew she was Jamaican without the google shmoogle. My brain just always think she is lol. I get called crazy in Jamaica, but they love me in Japan. My style and femininity is weird to people so I try to fake it and be normal. Honestly I don’t even know what normalcy is. Thank you for this video. I will use it to help me to be myself.

Love this lady, with one exception, her actions in front of the kids. Just as I don't give a thought about anyone's sexuality, I am equally as strong minded against anyone taking children and putting them in a situation that is not their right to do. Grace Jones was always just living her own life in her own unique way.

Thank you Karine! This was lovely! Always thought Grace Jones was an exotically beautiful woman! I really enjoyed seeing photos of her w/softer lines in several of the photos - in terms of hair, makeup & outfit. I remember her from the 80's & I always saw her with a harder edged look (as we all had then!) all of those geometric lines & louder makeup were what was in at the time. I didn't know much about Ms. Jones, but I would not have guessed her to be Jamaican rather I thought French or Haitian perhaps - I dunno why I always imagined her having a French accent lol!

Grace Jones is my inspiration; as a young child it was unusual to see a richly melanated beautiful woman. She didn't cover her AFRO in the movies and magazines! That was HUGE ❤! Back in the day, I had a poster of her. I wish I thought about putting it in a frame. She is amazing 🤩 and ALL the little black girls wanted to copy her makeup, her expressions, her everything!

The first time I heard of her was when I went to see the Conan movie and she was a scene stealer...fascinating. Then I realized that I was dancing to some of her songs at the discos. It was the first time I became aware of the concept on androgyny. Her fashion tastes were not always very appealing but I understood that she was an artist. I think that you can not beat Christianity into a person's soul...she was a survivor!

She was great in the movies to, such a strong personality. And even fairly recently she was singing and hula hooping on stage and she looks and sounds great. maybe because she took such a long break she didn't wear out her voice like so many singer do. And yes, a child's life on the islands is hard, so much abuse is taken for granted.

Grace was no victim but a willing participant. Her ex-white husband didn’t “create” her rather he enhance her beautiful image to propel her career with her permission. Don’t give him the credit and make her passive in her own creation and public image. Se was born like that! Period!!!
