They are royal children so they would remain with their country and their father who is the head of Monaco. Grace would only have visitation rights. Grace however did follow princess Caroline to Paris when Caroline was a university student and they took an apartment together and they found a local school for princess Stephanie who was very young. Caroline probably resented this because she wanted her freedoms and her friendships but Grace was worried that Caroline would be as wild as she was. Caroline heard many stories about Grace from her Hollywood days. Albert remained in Monaco with his father Prince Rainier to finish up his education and then went off to The United States for Amherst College. Grace admitted to the media "this is our version of a divorce". She returned to Monaco only for a few necessary events. I was in Monaco and I highly recommend it but every street is very narrow with heavy pedestrian traffic. The Royal Palace tour is pretty and Grace's grave site is very pretty also and it's located in St. Nicholas Cathedral where Rainier and Grace were married in 1956.

Women in that generation had different understandings about the roles between a husband and wife. I guess I saw in following the British Royal Family a monarch who was raised to believe that he was someone who was above everyone in the world and starting with his wife the Monarchy and the pressure to protect it at all costs is more important that the personal hopes and dreams of the individual member of Royal households. It is only later generations that find women have individual goals, dreams, ambitions. But if Grace Kelly and other women of that generation ignite and remind us all that women have much to offer. They started the pressure of the First wave of feminism that many of us benefited from. Grace Kelly’s children as adults seem to hold very different values and beliefs about what the role of women means that is all it should be.

There are some rumors that Albert pays her to stay in the marriage. Charlene and Albert are probably separated like princess Caroline and Prince Ernest her German husband. I'm guessing that Charlene refuses to sleep in the Grimaldi Palace with Prince Albert as most of the time they appear somewhat tense. In the mid 1970's Princess Grace lived in her Paris apartment with Caroline and Stephanie to get away from her husband Prince Rainier and Grace would return to Monte Carlo for important events only. Her marriage was rocky at best and she lived in Paris and only came back to Monte Carlo when necessary. Her children were not close to her as they admitted to this in an interview. Being a Royal is not anything like what the public might perceive. She had to learn a new language and take on an entire new life for the people of Monaco to accept her. She said being a Princess was a very lonely and isolated life. She really missed acting a great deal. There was almost a solemn look about her and she said she didn't want people to remember her for her looks but rather for her causes and the work she did. I'm not going to be too quick too judge this woman after watching that video content (you should check it out). I think she had a lot of regrets and there was such a sadness about her. I think SHE elevated Monaco in the world's eye and not the other way around. Interesting that Albert's wife seems so unhappy in her marriage as well.

Rainier however knew her Hollywood friends would visit Monte Carlo. Grace was drinking heavily as the years went by and ran up tremendous phone bills to talk to her family here in Philadelphia and also friends in California but she was very lonely and unfulfilled and she was detached as a mother and wife. Her husband and all his affairs were getting to Grace and her growing children were becoming more wild than she could handle, and the Monegasques couldn't stand Princess Disgrace. Her looks and her family life here in Philadelphia were going and her overweight was difficult to handle. Grace missed her friends and some betrayed her with interviews. Yes Grace greatly regretted marrying Rainier. I read this many many times. She was no longer in Hollywood acting and that upset her too. Grace was having many affairs herself 😞😞. @456inthemix. Grace admitted to a close friend that she regretted taking her mothers advice. Supposedly, her mother told her to dump Oleg Cassini because he was divorced twice. Grace probably regretted marrying Rainier because they weren't compatible and especially since it didn't work out and she really missed Cassini. Grace Kelly met Joe Kennedy, Sr for lunch one day with a friend of hers and Kennedy flew at Grace correcting her on dumping Cassini!
