Once again she does magic to her own song. Even though I like the studio version, I love this much more. The mood she created is everything this song needed. The gloomy but strong bass, the hammond organ on the right, the faint symbols and the piano supporting all that emotion in her voice so dang well. She knows just when to add or take away an instrument, what they mean for the song and exactly what sounds the song needs to drill into your soul.
Grace is a genius song writer and time will show it all, think about it, her million and millions of views on every web network is astonomical that litterally started at the age of 11, it just mind blowing that so many incredible compositions have come from the mind of a child prodigy. I will always be here for the next composition the next movie the next modling job and the next tour which i hope is on the way, thanks Sam i really appreciate all you do to promotethe journey of the most talented singer songwriter today, Grace Avery Vanderwaal!!
Thanks Sam, as always your work is excellent the sound is great. Grace is magic, skillful and able to transform what is already beautiful into a new version, giving a wonderful final result. "Success always"!!!
Maybe the name of that old game show should have been "Get Inside The Tune". Grace has the uncanny ability to play just a couple of notes, then weave the most beautiful melodies through those couple of notes. In doing so.....with her tone and phrasing....she completely lives the song. I see her do it time and time again.....especially when she's by herself. These solo home recordings are events for me. Even after just finishing up four hours of my own recording.....I hear Grace singing to her doggone phone and the world just stops.
You're right Sam. First time i saw and heard that version I was mesmerized. I love it even the better than the official version. Grace had unique ability to show you pictures with her words. If I was a film producer I would try to get Grace to complete that gem so I would be able to use it has the theme for my movie. Thanks again Sam for sharing.
Yep I know, so sad. But I think she does do the whole song but legally can't share the whole thing without violating her contract that says she can't release songs by herself.
@@SamBorgmanIn this instance, Grace said her piano "literally broke in the middle of recording this," so there's sadly no full version for her to share even if she wanted to
@@Jeff_674 Ah, maybe it did break and gave her a real answer to give us this time. I have no doubt she is not allowed to do it. As far as I remember she only posted full songs she produced herself on Soundcloud under a fake name. Other full songs she shared as herself were not full productions but had backing vocals with just one instrument. Red Footprints is one such song I can remember. F'd Up Years, Shitty Actress and Happy Songs are complete, self produced, all posted on Soundcloud. Also her pre-AGT originals that never got produced were taken down from YT long time ago, like The Good Just Gets Better. Maybe you can do some digging to see if she ever did share a self produced song in full under her own name. Rage was one song that slipped out that way but she went all out trying to take it down. Even though It was a live performance it had pro audio recording, not phone mic recording.
Love Grace’s music and performances a lot, however, I actually struggled to connect with the studio produced version of this particular song. The achy sadness and sentiment was lost in the mix and upbeat refrain. could not make sense of the official video at all. BUT, this version, THIS delivery/video, I get it, and I can relate 😢. Thanks for sharing Sam, and thank you Grace for giving us another take on ‘Boyfriends’ with some necessary gut wrenching vibes. Loved it!!
First of all, this sounds really good whatever you did to it. I have to agree, this version is better and would have gotten her more views in my opinion. That being said, I could think of several unreleased songs of hers that are better which she should have picked over this one. Hopefully some will be in her EP.
The problem with the studio version, at least to me, is it is just a chaos of sounds that in the end deprive the listener of the possibility to even follow through with the song lyrics and its narrative, and if it manages to create a sort of cinematic experience of crazyness and mental voyage ... which overall is not that bad if a bit creepy - is this even what this song is about? .. Absolutely not! It is a serious inner reflection ... if puts on a smile to escape the pain ... and the moments of silence in this song are just so important ... it would not get into you with the same strenght otherwise ... I dunno why, I keep having this sensation that I would hear Grace better off along paired with an electric guitar ... She's a serious one ... I really really loved hearing her in Freakin’ Out On the Interstate, at Sleepwalk in Brooklyn on 6/10/2023, the skill of that guy with the guitar plus her unleashed singing really was something ... I may be totally wrong but she does seem more a rock girl ... the ukulele rock girl ..
This song isn't exactly recent from her perspective. She wrote it when she was 14/15. She did a beautiful job with this slowed down, moodier interpretation of it though.
