This was frustrating to watch cause she dropped so many cakes 😩 but since everyone has different interpretations, this is mine. To me, I think the cake symbolizes her heart. It fell many times and broke to pieces. And each time she refused to give up on the relationship, so she bakes a new one. That’s like her mending her own heart. Eventually it got to the end where she doesn’t have much left, so she gave it her all hoping it would work. It did, but the cake is much smaller now. Because her heart has been through so much, it’s no longer the same.

For me, the cakes falling mean all the mistakes committed in the relationship, and how she kept coming back and giving her best. And in the end, when the pavement was filled with all the past cakes, she was more careful, so she won't trip with the other cakes, and could make it out of there.

In my mind, the cakes represents her giving the best pieces of herself to someone, just trying to please them but eventually she runs out these perfect things about herself (the ingredients) because she thinks she keeps messing up everything she's giving to this person where in reality, it's the person (her tripping over the steps) that's messing it up. But she only sees it as her making a mistake so she keeps trying and eventually she gives up and just gives the person all she has left, hoping it'll be enough for them.

Why is she so underrated?? She literally sings like heaven.

This is how i feel with all the relationships, friendships and otherwise, ive had in my life. Giving so much each time, wondering what i did wrong to mess it all up when they ended. Eventually learning to “let it happen” was the best option. Just letting relationships happen, giving what i can in the present moment, but not too much at once to where theres a huge loss each time that meant nothing. Making sure to take care and make every moment quality over quantity. That’s what i got out of the song personally

I found some of your songs when I was depressed with my life in general. Somehow, in the next couple years, I found that songs again... But this time, my life is much more better. I still remember vividly my feelings when I first heard your songs. It's kinda awesome when music can remind people about their past. To me, the cake keeps falling over and over again because it’s too much, too soon. It’s like when you’re trying to win someone back or earn their trust again after hurting them, but it keeps failing because it’s too much for them too soon and it’s too overwhelming. It only works with the smaller cake because sometimes trust is earned again little by little.

The bigger cakes meant trying really hard every time, giving more than what you have in yourself, but failing all the time cause that's not who you are, you're just trying to be perfect. But finally, when you just accept what actually you are capable of giving to the one you love, not more, not less, but just what WE HAVE, all of it of WHAT YOU ARE that's got a taste in the smaller cake :')

Perhaps the theme of this song is that you don’t have to entirely give the best version of yourself, perhaps you only need to put out who you are in the most normal way you can be

For me the cake represents her personality. She wants herself perfect. She wants herself with no flaws. That's why the cake kept falling. But when she made an imperfect cake. She accepts her imperfections. According to me, when someone accepts their flaws, then only will they be perfect. And finally she can walk around the world.

I think the cake represents her trying to give her best, giving her all but she would always mess it up because maybe she gave too much of herself. By the end the she’d learned that something big isn’t always the best option, so she ended up giving a smaller piece of herself and it was what worked best.

I love the video. I did't expect this. She represents perfectly a stubborn heart. There are many times when things don't happen as we expected. Sometimes is for our own actions, sometimes because is not meant to be. But, she shows how someone desires something with all the heart that giving up is not an option.

I've always interpreted this song as kind of her learning how to apologize for mistakes (especially big) ones she may have made in a relationship (it doesn't have to be romantic). She's messed up in some, which seems to have resulted in their relationship being damaged in some way. She lied about being okay and bottled up her problems until they likely (inevitably) exploded, rather than properly dealing with them. Her cake is her attempt at an apology. The ingredients are the personality traits that she is putting forward to form a new "better" version of herself. She's measured everything out, she's followed all the instructions, and she's neatly iced and decorated the cake. She even puts the first few cakes on a cake stand (or a pedestal in an effort try and make it look as good as possible). Obviously, this isn't sustainable (hence she keeps accidentally dropping them). Dressing up her apology or herself to try isn't actually dealing with the issue at hand. Something keeps going wrong and either she or the person receiving this apology recognizes and understands that she doesn't get it. It's too much all at once, and/or not what they NEED. (Kind of like when someone says "sorry" but they're not understanding the reason why something upset you so much. Like during having a long hard day, you have a breakdown down after you accidentally break a hair tie. Clearly it's not about the hair tie, right? It's just the final straw. Someone buying you a new hair tie isn't going to fix the actual issue). In the end we see that she's messy (from all her failed attempts) and her cake is small and it's on a plate. She clearly cares a lot for this relationship. Her messiness shows that whatever happened has affected her a lot. And despite it being small and messy, she's clearly put her all into this cake. It's clear that she's doing her best and she's not trying to jump right back into the relationship without dealing with the reason they had a falling out in the first place. Remember, this was brought on because of her dishonesty "I told you I lied", and her keeping her feelings bottled up. It doesn't matter that she lied about being "fine", likely to spare the other person's feelings, it's the fact that she didn't trust her partner/friend to be there for her. So, she takes it one step at a time, avoiding making the same mistakes she's made before (carefully stepping around the fallen cakes, using a plate now rather than a glass cake stand) and journeying to the other person's house to give a heartfelt and sincere apology. One where she actually understands the mistake she made, and is ready to actually start fixing them.
