@toseeornot2see 7 лет назад
Yeah, definitely, cos with Gi training you're basically learning how to fight with clothes on...So you can apply that to hoodies and long sleeves, etc. But I think it really depends on the school and your instructor. Best to learn the basics and then ask instructor to train you in more street effective methods.

After my second BJJ competition, not training for competition but love it, my confidence was at an all time high. Seeing that I was not fearing any of my opponent and finished being the only one who hasn’t been submitted that day in my weight class, I was so proud in my ability to defend myself and put other people in very bad positions. I am 6’2 225lbs and 22yo I’ve been training for 3 months now and hope to do it till I’m 100yo+.

I've been to numerous BJJ schools. Is what bothers me is that no two BJJ schools are the same. For example, my first month in one BJJ school (while I was a white belt), our instructor was teaching us black belt submissions while you have your opponent in the "spider guard". Like Roger Gracie said, "You need to learn the basics of Jiu-Jitsu first so that you will have a strong foundation and not make silly mistakes later down the road." He's absolutely right!

Spetsnaz Pocomaxa yes foundation is the most important otherwise those submissions won’t be as effective. For me personally I’m not into all the new tournament bjj styled techniques I prefer the original direct form of Rickson Gracie and how Kron Gracie does bjj. Even Ralph Gracie I love it because their techniques are so refined and their foundation is the best

Geez....the gracies, despite all their martial arts training and years of fighting experience, both wins and losses.... can never learn respect or being humble. They disrespected other arts when they first came on the scene and they doing it again now. Right at the start royce blabs out "why learn something you cant rely on?? Learn something you can rely on". This just shows how dishonest they are. Many other arts are very reliable and in fact FAR MORE reliable than bjj ever will be. Bjj is only good for one on one and in 'certain' situations. But it has proven to be very unreliable against more aggressive fighters who know how to worm out of a little choke hold or guard. The gracies themselves have been beaten soundly too. Many other martial arts can be proud and promote their own art without disrespecting others. But the gracies still cannot do that to this day. I dont like them one bit and i dont have any respect for bjj.

I first sarted 20 years ago before coming to Japan. I also have wresling and karate experience. How good am I? Can I fight? jeez...I've been in about 12 street/bar fights in that time, but there are no guarantees. I can say, if you train fairly regularly for say, 6-9 months, with striking sometimes, you will improve your odds of surviving against a a guy who doesn't know what's going on dramatically. My worst nightmare would be getting into a street fight against somebody who was angry at me and had better Jitsu.

The things they said in this video seem pretty universal to martial arts in general. You just have to find the right dojo/gym.
@blaw11b
@blaw11b 7 лет назад
BJJ is the most practical, still I can't help but feel that you should incorporate at least some western boxing into your self defense repertoire. At the very minimum learning proper footwork and defense against common punches thrown on the street. How to breath when taking a body shot and such or getting used to getting hit in the face( with proper gear of course). Studying both arts you begin to realize how bad the general population really are at defending ourselves. Even so called tough guys with street fights under their belts exhibit bad Technic and can fall victim to a well trained BJJ or Boxer who may have never been in a street fight but has spent hours in the gym training.

In BJJ sport jiu jitsu people lose their humility once they reach purple belts, sometimes even blue. More times than not sport jiu jitsu is creating a new breed of bullies in my experience. Im interested in your strong conjectures about the Gracie Academy.you said that your nephews (rener and his brother) curriculums and on line programs are not a true representation of the teaching method, belt grading and philisophy of your father a grandmaster(???) And that your fathers name is misrepresented(?) Ok.so what then is the TRUE representation of your so called system? I hear your comment but its more of an EMOTIONAL conjecture. And how exactly are the brothers misrepresenting their grandfather? I dont know your nephews but in my analysis their innovation has merits like focused training,dedication etc. I can see the arrogance in you in underestimating people who want to journey into the art ,these people will adapt and overcome obstacles.You have your opinion,i have my assessment.what i have observed is that the cliche of ten years to master the art is an overstatement. You have been practicing for years but how many of the 600+ techniques do u use often??? Thats right,its called paretto imbalance.im not a master.not even a colored belt,i went to a school which perhaps pretty much like yours - a collector of techniques.disorganized and sparring always in high level. High risk,low reward. But guess what ? I devised my own system,1. Prevent being pinned and prevent being in bad positions 2. Escape effectively and efficiently 3. Be dangerous on bottom and top 4. Good offense 5. Catalogue the most often attack in the streets and systemize an effectivr counter to them 6. Be calm but powerful 7. Conserve energy 8.dont engage if possible ,these are but few BUT it saved my life several times and it changed and changing my attitude for the better.not quite but im on the path. Mr Royce YOU DONT HAVE THE MONOPOLY OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE ART AND MORE SO YOU DONT HAVE THE FINAL SAY ABOUT WHAT IT REALLY STANDS FOR AND ALL THAT MYSTERIOUS CRAP. SENSEI KIMURA (WHICH IS SMALLER THAN YOUR FATHER) beat helio but was humble about it while the rowdy crowd in the arena staged a coffin for mr kimura.Ironic. The methods of yesteryears are overpowered by present methods and technology. It wont stop.it will develop forward.if this is your problem then u are fighting a battle that u will surely lose. I understand the relevance of MY jui jitsu in my life.Perhaps the belt in your waist and the 600+ techniques that uve mastered(?) Has done nothing but cloud your vision of the essence of jui jitsu.i know for sure its not about belts and damn sure that its not about UFC championship trophy. You always say about giving jui jitsu to the world but in essence what u r saying is that you guys are the only ones who can give it to the world because in your mind you guys are the only people who knows and truly understand the art.Well,youre wrong.

For those not in the know, the Gracie Combat System has been teaching people to defend themselves in real-world situations for decades. The Gracie family is truly the first family of Brazilian jiu-jitsu (especially in the United states) and their methods have been proven effective from the streets, to championship-level prize fighting. At this point there is no debate, it is a prove, effective system. It's a great tool for anyone to use, and from what I see, Forged Fitness is a great place to get your rolls in!

gotta be honest- before i seen royce in the first ufc i never thought anything of jiu-jitsu and judo. then i seen a dude exactly my same size and build submitting dudes like ken shamrock, brick shit houses, big guys, just making them tap out and i was sold immediately. i was in awe. just knowing the absolute basics of bjj will give tremendous advantage over anyone not trained who is just a plain asshole. back in the day before the gracie schools and academies we just watched royce's fights and picked up all we could from that. be amazed on how much that little bit went.

I went to jiu jitsu and pissed off a purple belt because I grabbed his dryfit shirt and gi collar and went ape shit on me and drove his knee into my chest twice. Injured me for two weeks. That's the BJJ side, I hope that Gracie has less hot heads than BJJ does. Competition seems to create bullies

I’ve been taking Brazilian jiu-jitsu for the past year and it has been life-changing. And I am not the only one who thinks this. I read about sportsmen who won at the European championship and discover that they trained in a club which have powerful sponsor, famous Biotexcom center. So I decided to try train with them. And I felt in love with this sport. I notice that a lot of people who dedicate a huge portion of their time to the two martial arts find it rather meditative and life-changing. Thus I believe that jiu-jitsu is made to be lifetime sports. The benefits of doing this martial art go far beyond knowing how to protect yourself. I truly believe it is legitimate vehicles for positive change in our lives. Another thing I love about the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu is the way people transform after training and it doesn’t take that long. Physically, many lose weight, tone up, become more flexible, and as a result have more energy. Personally I become much happier, and become more confident. And actually learned how to defend myself!

Same as many, many other martial arts. Now if you're looking to be a complete fighter (or just martial artist), sure, you need to be able to roll as well. O-ver-ra-ted.

Took the pepsi bjj will change your life challenge. . . Biggest exercise in futility I ever embarked on. martial arts and physical fitness are all the same to me. its all something you either have it or you dont. If you dont then forget it. I dont have it as I found out.

Where is the weapons training, multiple attacker training, environmental combat factors training, etc. It's rare anyone gets attacked by one person with no weapons and no environmental obstacles to overcome in the process. Typically, people get jumped by 3 - 5 people with some kind of weapons and multiple environmental obstacles. They claimed this is not sport training, but combat training. Combat training is training for actual combat. As a single martial art, it's great. However, this is not real combat training.

Go at least four days a week and reassess your confidence level every 30 days. You won't recognize your old self from the previous month.

Life is more about chess then physical combat which is the by-product of chess playing (mind games). War is the by-product of wealthy men and countries playing a game chess against each other.

once weapons or multiple opponents are introduced. It loses its luster. The disarms suck in that system. However, it may be a good art once u are an old man.
