You've likely seen them while driving around Austin this month. Hundreds, maybe even thousands of black birds. Grackles. While this species can be seen as an annoyance, they're actually a fascinating species and may be one of the most special on Earth.

I love these guys. I like to play catch with them, and I like to jam with them. If I tune the guitar to A=432 Hz and play old timey jazz they'll sing with me, mostly in B flat or D flat. They're actually pretty good, and sometimes I get some great bluesy riffs from them. * They are musicians and comedians. No wonder everybody hates them. Maybe we could retrain them to be lawyers and bureaucrats. *Would that help?*

I have a family of them that come every day to the tattoo shop for me to feed them! I have a bunch of shorts on my channel of one male and his mate and family. I named him Russell 🤣

Yes the house sparrow is one of the most valued birds around because the bugs. The grackle is not a valued Species at all! It eats house sparrows. the grackle is black and indigenous and that doesn’t matter they need to be gotten rid of no one cares if they were here first. Yes, they can prey on other bird's eggs or fledglings, and can damage crops like locusts, they should be taken of the face of the planet no one would miss them.

The Pope said the same thing about cats in the 13th century. He declared cats to be emissaries of the devil and ordered them killed. When this was done the rat population spiraled out of control, along with the fleas that lived on the rats. The fleas were carriers of..........(drum roll please) BUBONIC PLAGUE perhaps you've heard of the black death that wiped out about 1/3 of Europe? * In the 1930s, somebody decided that the corn snakes was a threat to all that was right and decent, and so the government embarked on a campaign to exterminate them, when this was done the field mouse population spiraled out of control and the mice ate all of the corn, at a time when there was a depression and people were starving. Now you're advocating genocide against the Grackles. We don't know everything about their position in the ecosystem, but who cares? They pooped on my shiny new yuppiemobile, and they bother me with their singing. If the money men had not obliterated their original home, in Mexico and Central America by destroying the jungles they wouldn't even be here in the first place. Now you advocate more short sighted stupidity, and killing. How much do you have invested in the pesticide companies? I have close to 100 sparrows in my palm tree, and Grackles come every day and sit in the branches, giving us all a fine musical performance. The sparrows are never even slightly agitated by their presence, and no conflict between them is ever seen. They will get active and defend the nests and babies fiercely against the mockingbirds, who truly are a visible threat. I have witnessed this battle hundreds of times, and you can hear it from inside the house. The sparrows are not lacking in courage or resolve to protect their own. If what you say about the Grackles were so, it stands to reason that I would have witnessed some evidence of this in 27 years of being in the same place. So far I have seen nothing to coroborate the claim you make. Do they do this at night? Do they wait till I leave the house? I'm confused.
