Welcome back to another video! In this one I review the two current leading grading companies in Yugioh, PSA and Beckett, both in terms of the general services they offer and specifically the current state of each as of mid-2020. If you enjoyed the video, please do leave a like and subscribe to the channel!

Very good video! This shows the pros and cons of both! Basically comes down to preference imo!

Thanks! And yep I pretty much agree, depending on what kind of collector you are either company could be preferable!

PSA for most grades, bgs for the really special stuff.

very nice video! I have only submitted to PSA thus far, if I'm not satisfied with the grading once they are back i'm gonna definitely try out Beckett, even if it's a bit more expensive!

I think it's always wise to have options and competition, PSA has been dominant in the past several years when it comes to YGO but BGS is slowly catching on, that might've put PSA on the edge and hopefully this will raise the bar and standard for both companies to more consistency and less mishaps.
@Schloast

@@Ced7115 Thanks as always! Yeah I agree competition is a good thing for sure, that's another reason I've been supporting beckett lately. Until a couple of days ago all my subs had been absolutely great, but the one I've just got the results back for was extremely disappointing - I'll probably make a vid going through it when the cards are back in my hands just to try and figure out what went wrong exactly

Just a heads up PSA raised prices. Currently for a value of 1000 dollars cards will cost you 64 dollars per card to get it graded.

Watched this after having a debate with someone about BGS 9.5 being essentially the same as a PSA 10 lol. It honestly shocks me that a good subgrade 9.5 doesnt typically sell for as much as a PSA 10 if the grading for higher grades is much more strict at BGS
@Schloast
@Schloast 2 года назад
I can definitely understand this point of view! Imo the main reason it's not like that is down to market share and brand value. Especially for less experienced collectors, they often can't tell the quality of the card very well themselves anyway so they are happy to just go with the standard option of buying PSA and don't factor the actual card quality into the prices they pay

I know it's almost 2 years after the video is posted, but can someone explain to me why is that Blue Eyes an 8.5 overall having that subgrades?
@Schloast
@Schloast 2 года назад
The BGS algorithm is quite complex, it's not a simple average or anything like that. In this case that blue eyes had two 8.5 subgrades, which automatically means the overall grade can't be above 8.5

You could make a comparison video between all existing LOB prints. American 1st wavy and glossy, European 1st, Asien English 1st, ... and all the different unlimted american prints wavy, glossy, original, LC reprints, ... Because there are so many different versions out there and it would be nice to have some sort of comparison, show the diffefences, prices and how to tell which is which
@Schloast
@Schloast 4 года назад
I could consider it! The problem might just be that it's a bit too much for one video. Even if you only count English LOB prints, there are over 20 in total - 6 european, 2 AE, 1 australian, and at least 15 NA versions. I think I could manage all the 1st ed varieties in one video, but unlimited has so many different printings that it's difficult to fit them all in
@Zcheng608
@Zcheng608 3 года назад
Can you talk about how misprints affect the grading and their price?
@Schloast
@Schloast 3 года назад
Thanks for the suggestion! Grading misprints is very broad topic, since different kinds of misprints can affect the grades in such different ways. In general though, Beckett is always the company that's more willing to label errors and to grade the cards fairly

I found my LOB unlimited set and some first editions of metal raiders. If your going to send out that set keep researching about centering edging corners and surface. Mainly the centering to save money. Good Luck!

What about turn around times?????
@Schloast
@Schloast 3 года назад
Good point! Although they do change all the time, if I'd compared them at the time of makingthis video BGS would have been way ahead whereas now both companies are extremely slow. At this point you pretty much won't get a sub back from either company in less than half a year unless you pay for express services

I’m sending in my first cards to Beckett today. It is expensive AF. But I hope it’s worth it in the end. I don’t expect any care to be perfect but at least some 8.5 to 9.5 I’m sending in 7 cards . Should I go with psa if I don’t think the grade is going to be higher than a 9?
@Schloast
@Schloast 3 года назад
Thanks for the comment, and sorry for the late reply! In general I would say PSA is more reputable for grades below a 9. So for example even though BGS 8.5 is technically a higher grade than PSA 8, it's probably easier to sell the PSA 8 for more most of the time because there are just more buyers of low grade cards out there for PSA than BGS. For 9s in yugioh the prices are pretty similar, but again PSA slabs are a little easier to sell. So really it depends whether you are grading for your own collection or to sell, and also your personal preferences with the grading scales and cases!

I've seen quite a few PSA 10s that shouldn't be 10s, so my trust in PSA is not the highest at the moment. I have a card that's graded PSA 10 but it has clear wear/chips where the foil is showing through an edge. This might just be the grader not being attentive at all or they damaged the card during the process.
@dondottaa1682
@dondottaa1682 3 года назад
I’m not sure why you are mad?, You got blessed with the highest grade that particular card can be worth, now that card as a PSA 10 is worth the max a PSA 10 can go for, and no one should argue because PSA is a professional grading company.

What do you think of sgc? They are a great grading company? Yugioh cards look amazing in their slabs
@Schloast
@Schloast 3 года назад
Honestly I don't have any experience with them. From what I hear they're well respected in the sports world but I would probably stay away from sending gaming cards to them. There's no real collector base for yugioh SGC slabs so the resale value wouldn't be great compared to PSA/BGS
