Is PSA The BEST Grading Company? 

No company that waits till the literal last second to close down only because they literally ran out of space can be called the best. They screwed so many of their customers the last year and now they’re screwing us again by not grading Holo bleed cards that we sent long before this new rule expecting them to come back graded. Instead we wait all that time only to get them back raw (and hopefully not damaged by PSA) Just because they’ve been around the longest doesn’t mean we should overlook the shady stuff they’re doing now. They are horrible

I like that BGS tells you the exact score for each category the card is reviewed on. Gives legitimacy and what you’ve lost out on a grade.

I think it's important to shine some light on the newer grading companies that are doing things the right way. Competition is always better for the consumer so if you think PSA prices are too high, use something else and if it catches on, PSA will have to lower it's prices to compete.

BGS I would genuinely say is the best. They make it abundantly clear on what their criteria is, and what the score for the individual categories are. It makes it a lot more helpful for people buying cards. Edit: As a quick side note, the BGS slab is thick af, but I think that's fine considering the protection it gives the card. The main problem with BGS though is that if we're talking value, if something grades a BGS 9.5 and you want to sell it, it's 100% more worth to regarde with PSA simple because people like 10 more than 9.5. As a collector though, I would 100% want my cards in BGS if they get graded so that I can say "This one has the best centering out of all my copies". PSA doesn't do that, and especially nowadays the lack of transparency is a problem (a 6 on that Blue-Eyes toon dragon? Are you serious?)

Not a fan of the PSA labels and lack of sub-grades. I prefer BGS for these reasons, plus most Magic cards seem to be graded by BGS rather than PSA.

I just wish that PSA did the sub grades like Beckett. If i got a PSA 8 i wanna know why the card got an 8.

All right, I want to appreciate this video and it opens up for some good discussion, but the recent memory of some PSA frustrations on this channel make the angle a hard sell. I'm not gonna jump to the "Wow Ruxin got 10s so now he loves the company" thing, but I can definitely understand why some of the comments lean that way. That being said, you've done a lot of cool analyzes on things involving card grading, and you could've talked comparisons between the three companies without hard pushing a strong opinion that clashes with some of the specific annoyances in previous videos. You even did the usual asking viewers what they think, so the setup is all there for discussion. Just maybe it comes off a little wonky given your recent shots. To actually contribute, for YGO at least, it comes off as though PSA is for serious collectors, with Beckett coming in at the rank of "this is good for dipping your toes into graded cards." BGS labeling the separate criteria is useful information, and I'm not sure why PSA doesn't do it; this, combined with their increased prices and odd behavior, is pretty off-putting right now. So, I'd be in the middle of the two currently. I admittedly don't know much about CGC.

I think PSA definitely has its charms and I can appreciate it. But I'm a PSA collector turned BGS collector because: - I dislike PSA labels, they look outdated and the labels are crammed with huge texts that are shortened, due to lack of room - No subgrades meaning no transparency on grades and you're left totally guessing - Cards can move around inside the slabs and possibly damage cards' edges. Sometimes they just slide up and down because it's so loose. - BGS has some consistency issues as well, but PSA definitely seems much worse. - PSA keeps damaging my cards, literally every submission I see damages that weren't there before. - Why pay double the price for PSA 10s when you can get very similar quality cards in BGS 9.5 for almost half the price lol This is not to bash PSA, I still have quite a few PSA slabs that I like but yeah... PSA lost me after bad experiences with them.

IMO its all preference, I prefer PSA but own BGS, and CGCs as well. all 3 are good on their own one thing to mention is how BGS cards that are graded lower than an 8 get a different label, and its much uglier than the 8+ label.

I want to see CGC grade to see how it changes the competition. I have BGS slabs just because they were sent there from SimplyUnlucky form a whatnot auction, but I want to get a PSA slab just to say I have one then I may give a better thought on the different companies.

Im going to try the new grading companies like TGA ($25/card) and Electric Slabs ($15/card) to grade my ultra-rares for shit and giggles.

Guys, the real reason he loves them and can overlook how shady they’ve become is cause he’s probably gotten plenty of cards graded in the past that were really 8’s but PSA was nicer back then so he got 10’s instead and they made him a lot more money then he should’ve. That’s why he can afford to send express or super express while the rest of us have to wait a year and a half and hope PSA doesn’t damage our cards after all that time

Also, I like how bgs tells you what they found wrong with the cards and grades them as such. I feel like you can use that knowledge to know whether something is worth sending in and have a decent idea of what score you’ll get

BGS will overtake PSA in the next couple of years. The values between a BGS 9.5 and PSA 10’s are already coming a lot closer in terms of pricing than they were 2-3 years ago. People are starting to understand that the sub grades on a Beckett slab will ultimately tell the story in regards to how the card would grade if it were submitted to PSA instead. Quad 9.5’s almost always guarantee that a card would cross over to a PSA 10, and true gem+ cards will 99.99% of the time cross over as well as long as the 60/40 centering rule isn’t the deciding factor since BGS is more lenient in terms of centering. Also, the fact that BGS puts sub grades, let’s you know how the card scored overall, so if you felt the need to crack it and submit it to PSA for the shot as a 10, you would have a lot more confidence knowing that another reputable company has already given it a gem mint grade. But ultimately, it’s BGS for me all the way.

I def can’t send any to grade here as most of my cards aren’t worth crazy high prices unless I’m guaranteed a 10. 9s aren’t worth it. What’s the best right now if I’m looking to flip my cards?

Although I understand the good that comes out of grading cards such as preservation, authentication, and protection of the card, once luck gets thrown into the mix the legitimacy of card grading companies really comes into question.

I’ve been using MNT grading service lately and although they are very strict and it’s almost impossible to get a 10 I’m very pleased with how they look. Plus the cost and turn around time is unbeatable.

Check out MNT in Ontario, Canada. They have the same grading scale as BGS up to and including black labels. Their prices are reasonable AND they do Yugioh

Personally I'm high on SGC. They have a 30$ per card level that says 20-25 day turnaround but is really more like 2 weeks! They have a beautiful black slab and also the potential for a gold label. They definitely don't add the value like a BGS or anywhere close to PSA but at the price point I think it makes a lot of sense for cards with values

This is a bit of a double edge sword, but grading really needs to be taken over by AI that can perfectly grade a card. It sucks bc sometimes you can get a lucky 10 when you don’t deserve it but it’s crazy to me that the grades fluctuate so much.

PSA's biggest advantage is the card's worth compared to other grading companies. I like BGS subgrades, but it's kind of dumb how their "10" grade is a 9.5. I'd rank it like this atm: PSA >= BGS > everything else

Sort of off topic but my main complaint with grading is that they take centering into account. I get card condition (damaged, etc.) but I don't understand how they can dock points for slight off-centering when that's how the card was factory produced.

The reason I see PSA is the best because of the aftersale of the graded card. As bullshit as the grading process is sometimes, when a collector goes to drop 5k on a card chances are 9/10 they will by the PSA graded over anything else because of the reputation. Even if other grading companies do it better, give better cases and even an explanation of the grade. The fact is you will by a PSA graded LOB blue eyes over a 10 graded with any other company because when you go to sell it after investing it for more money buyers will always rather the PSA stamp. Its dumb af, because I can get it with the same grade legitimacy from another company which cost less than half and also turn around is also way less than half the time of PSA, but the card won't sell the same without the PSA stamp. PSA knowing this, who knows if the integrity is still there, we can only assume. Because when a grade comes back a 10 we go crazy and say PSA is the shit, but its only when we hope for a 10, maybe even know it to be a 10 but the grade comes back an 8 or lower of course you'll call out bullshit. Edit: thats just the nature of this particular game. Its never going to be risk free. Even as sure as you are about a raw card, you will never really know until the return of the grade. The reward in flipping a raw to a graded 10 yourself is way higher in terms of profit, but theres the risk of it not being 10 and in Yugioh the risk just increases 10 fold as you continue down the ladder to buying one booster or box or even single packs. Which is why I think YuGiOh will become the next Pokemon in terms of collecting. There are a lot of barriers to reach a graded PSA 10 but once you got it, you got it.

I buddy. I startet with the newcomer grading company SGS. Swiss Grading Service. The are over 2 years now on building one great service. In few weeks they will start. I‘m one of the firts coustumer who sends already cards. Your petit moth is also there. I will get it in a fan mail from me. I know not alote about psa and in europe is not so easy to get graded cards. Why not start some with good quality. Maybe there are like swiss watches.😉😉. If you want to try some new grading then why not with this start up. 👌 i like your videos keep going

Its all preference, and the experience you had with each company. Customer service, Fees, Turnaround Times, Trust, Aesthetic, etc. I'm a CGC guy myself, that's because I think their cases are better, and had better experiences with them. I feel like 8/10 cards you (Ruxin34) get back from PSA, that there's something wrong with a case, its always scratched or dinged. I'm sure it's only your favorite because its worth the most money. If CGC kept sending me cards or comics with damaged cases all the time I would rethink sending back to them. Just my 2 cents.

PSA is my preferred grade encasing. I agree with you on BGS and CGC is growing on me. It will be interesting to see when they open grading to yugioh. I'd also look into SGC. Label and slab is kind of ugly, but if you want a card slabbed up then it's perfectly fine and it's way cheaper to buy on the market. Might be nice to buy and then cross grade.

I think the second CGC starts grading Yugioh, it will be the new "go to" for most Yugioh cards due to the cost of grading and the ability to go with sub grades.

PSA is my go to as well. I think i’ll be holding off until the computer grading comes out though, I have a hard time not staring at the number if it’s anything other than a 10 and am left wondering “Should I regrade this?” Instead of admiring the card. Lately i’ve just been putting my higher end cards in those UV ultrapro magnet cases

The main factor in inconsistencies within the grading companies for card is because there are multiple people individually doing the grading

I wish they gave reasons on a paper card that comes with each slab and mark where the issues are so you would know. I know it would take longer but it's nice to know why your card got a 9 or even a 10.

Only reason people saying PSA is the best is because of resale value PERIOD. There slab is thin and fragile, inconsistent, and without sub grade making them less accountable for your grade. If any other company resales value anywhere near PSA I would drop PSA in a heart beat. That’s my 2 cent.

PSA is nothing more than a brand imo. Their labels look terrible. They do not offer sub grading. They also have not been able to scale their business. Their grading system is also highly subjective, as seen by the various grades received on cards.

the main reason Ruxin criticized PSA in that other video was because during the PSV 1st Ed box break he went out of his way to talk about how that buster blader should be a 9 or a 10 which got the dudes hopes up. That dude spent thousands of dollars and the best thing he got was a PSA 8 buster blader. Therefore ruxin had to feel bad and stick up for him in the other video

I agree with this. I absolutely love collecting, but it hurts my soul to have something that I couldn't sell to break even. PSA keeps that comfort that my 10s is the best of the best, whereas a 9.5 is not

PSA should really tie the barcode to a report so you can validate the grade. Take the good part of BGS and improve on it.

PSA does frustrate me sometimes but I don't see myself using another grading service anytime soon

As someone who uses CGC for comics and cards, I REALLY recommend using them for your stuff. They have more advanced grading tech, more detailed grades, and faster turnaround time. The best part is that they don't charge $300 to grade one card. It's like $15 for regular and $20 for sub-grade. I sent 10 cards in at once and I got them back in about 2 months. I like PSA, but when I send my stuff to be graded, I prefer a company that wasn't ripping me off

Yeah I think more people should use Beckett PSA is inconsistent, damages cards by clamping the case on them, and they charge a commission instead of flat rate which is preposterous.

The inconsistency issue isn't just from a card to card basis but their larger shift to being more strict overall. Cards that would have gotten tens before the boom are getting 8's. While sooo many 10's with earlier Cert numbers are so weak they 1. would maybe be a BGS 9 if you're lucky, and 2. if were resubmitted to PSA themselves likely wouldn't get a 10 nowadays. I have several of these that are noticeably off center and with edgewear that don't deserve the 10 label. THAT is the consistency issue. They are swaying to protect the value of their own product. They should have some transparency and publish how many total cards they graded and the score breakdown of each then we could actually see how much tougher it is to get 10's compared to a few years ago.

just a personal preference, but i don’t like the plastic on the inside of BGS slab being imperfect, especially when the grade is 9.5 or 10 seen so many with a dent on the plastic or hair/fur like in Ruxin’s case…

I prefer PSA graded cards, but I never sent cards to be graded with them. I have always just bought cards already graded.

I think cgc will take the crown soon for grading. Their slabs are clean, and. their grading seems consistent.

I submitted my first card to be graded with Revolution Card Grading. They're a newer company but their slabs compliment the artwork of the card extremely well while also grading the card accurately with sub-grades like beckett... As a collector I rather have my high ticket cards protected in a cool slab with an accurate grade than PSA which has boring looking slabs and more for resellers. I think RCG will grow alot bigger and have alot more authority in the grading world as time goes on... Some of their slabs already have sold for more than PSA slabs.

This is my honest opinion. PSA is just the standard because they were first. That’s it. I have a PSA collection because I didn’t even find out about BGS till last year (I’ve been grading since 2017) after using and discovering grading companies. I really don’t find PSA as reliable or even desirable. Reason being, sub grades are the future. During these crazy times PSA is backed up to shit. I guarantee you somebody at PSA has just picked up a card barely glanced at it and gave it whatever grade because they were in a rush. Sub grades are a different story. You have no choice but to grade the card if the customer has paid for sub grades. I’m not saying the sub graded job is done perfectly but I’m sure they look over your card for more than a split second. For the premium that PSA is charging for grading for their inconsistencies and back up time. I don’t think it’s sustainable. The future isn’t bright for PSA. Before I get bashed by all you PSA simps, this is just my opinion. If I could start my collection all over I’d do BGS.

If you grade a 9.5 bgs then you send it to psa to try for a 10 because it would have better value. But if you are trying to go for that black label then you send it to bgs

yeah PSA cards are worth more in the general market but they cost more to grade, and that amount of money is in no way justifiable
