I heard a rumor that Japanese salarymen will go to game centers and 10 loop the Gradius games, and all i can imagine watching this is a 50 year old man with a Suntory on the cab, and a cigarette in his mouth.
Your rumour may be closer to the truth than both you and I will ever know for sure. Not so much anymore nowadays, but I've seen the occasional salaryman sitting for forever in game centers 15+ years ago, building up Sega Tetris to infinity and playing Xevious with dozens of lives in stock. Never saw a Gradius loop 10+ player live, but they sure existed, and there is no way Suntory and cigarettes weren't involved.
I find it funny that Gofer's veins only spew out 1 bullet that's not even aimed at you. I find it funnier that he explodes spewing another bullet that's not even aimed you. Imagine getting here with no shields and you just so happened to be aligned perfectly for those bullets as you let go of the arcade stick.
@@Toarcade Do you know what the maximum level is? Also I've noticed that from the second loop onwards stage 4 (volcanos) has a different layout. Are there any other interessting changes on higher loops or is it just enemy speed and frequency of return fire that keeps increasing?
@@TheBLBShow Hey there, you have a good eye. The only stage differences I am aware of are in stage 1 (longer and more difficult fire dragons) and stage 4 (more and more aggressive volcanos). Other than that, the difficulty maxes out after loop 4 with a high amount of suicide bullets. I am not 100% sure if bullet speed is rank-dependent (e.g. decreases if you die), but the amount of bullets should remain the same after loop 4 i think.
@@Toarcade Very interessting. Sadly it seems gradius games have alot of undocumented knowledge. I'd really love to know exactly how the ranking system works. But there are no ressources that I was able to find online. It always seemed to me that a fully upgraded laser type ship is a higher rank than a ripple one. But it might just be my imagination. Currently trying to learn loop 1. Thought about writing a gameFAQs guide myself but there is just so much information that is really hard to figure out without looking into the code itself which is not something I plan on doing
