just beat this recently. truly the best gradius of em all imo. lots of new stuff and cool ideas going on here. no idea why this never made it to united states
I love how Gaiden pays its respects to what came before, but it never just straight up reuses anything from a previous game unchanged like 2 and especially 3 did. Crystal Core? It's a wreck buried in a wall. Brain Golem? It's an illusion. Death? Two of it, and they're being puppeteered by a third boss. Tetran? It's made of lasers now. The moai? They shoot lasers too, and break in half in a really cool way. That iconic stratified volcano stage? Being eaten by a black hole. And it gives you new thing after new thing after new thing - the developers knew that the best way to respect the Gradius lineage wasn't by just playing the hits, but being as good and original as the series had been at its previous heights. And the game's absolutely gorgeous, which doesn't hurt. Best Gradius by far. Treasure also understood that idea when making V, but they didn't seem to know that colours exist beyond grey, brown, grey-brown and eye-searing green. And they do fall into a little bit of playing the hits with the reused bosses, even though they vastly bumped up their movesets.
I'm so happy to see playthroughs with either Vic Viper or Lord British! The ones with Falchion (sp?) & Jade Knight make the game a LOT easier. There was one playthrough where I saw someone using Jade Knight, & had the weapons edit set up where he/she would use the "completely invincible for 3 seconds" shield type CONSTANTLY. ( they had it setup where the shield was the 1st item in the power bar ). Not knocking the player who did that cause I'm a huge fan of their videos, but that makes the game super easy =[ so I'm glad to see that your video is more....old school so to speak =P
Would the walking Konami logo be retained in the US version of Gradius Gaiden if it had been released in the USA or would it be replace with the Konami logo coming out of rock?
Wait. The quotes archive had that for "stage 2 boss," but not for O.V.U.M. And while I don't hear either stage 2 boss say that, I do hear O.V.U.M. say that. Maybe that archive was mixed up. Oh well, another day in the life of Konami.
(Sorry if my comment have horrible English and stupid info but...) Anyone agree's with me that the game look's like use the Castlevania: SotN motor? these two games sincerously look very similar even the effect's reminds me so much.
