I have been trying to do that by grafting to a young yoshino flowering cherry. I have three different varieties grafted to it since last year and that are still alive. I grafted a giant Utah cherry to it last week. Not sure how good of an idea using a yoshino cherry as a rootstock is but it’s an interesting experiment nonetheless. Now all I have to do is figure out how to deal with the swarms of Japanese beetles we get every year … they are like locusts consuming everything but they especially like cherry leaves. I’m surprised they didn’t kill my grafts last year.
What plum trees would you suggest to be good to graft shiro plum scion onto? I have a Toka, yellow egg, American plum and a Italian prune tree to graft onto. Thanks for your time, Jon
Toka would probably have the highest degree of compatibility. But in this case it would be better to select for the species of roots that do best in your soil as this plum would go well on either of those
@@nickkasko2097 Thanks for your time in answering my question. I was searching through a bunch of your videos and didn’t find anything on the topic. I’m on a hill, so don’t have many problems w pooling or water table.
