It's sad to see Rowntree leave at a time like this for the club. His departure doesn't feel right at this time. Lots of good young players coming through at the moment, but Quinny is right quality is such a big issue for the club. Injuries are compounding the problems at the club. ROG would be great, but really unlikely to get him any time soon. Felix Jones needs more time, could join the backroom. Need to make a statement with a renowned coach, otherwise the board have to go. Thanks for the memories GR #SUAF
WOW!! Thats a shocker. I hope he didnt get pushed but I'd be surprised if it was off his own bat.. I wish him all the best and thank him for all he has done for the club..❤❤
It would be scandalous if he was pushed out rather than deciding to leave himself. BTW, I am constantly scathing about Ger Gilroy, but I appreciate what he said about Munster and what it did for Irish rugby in the 000's
It wouldn't surprise me if he called it quits. Maybe couldn't get a med joker to cover front row. Having POM forced on him when it looked like he wanted to move him on. Whing about RJS but who in their right mind chose Klyne over him. When Leinster got him I couldn't contain my joy! Who let john ryan go just to replace him with john ryan? Who let Donnacha Ryan go to France? Everytime munster have a decision to make they make the wrong one and blame leinster.
A new Head coach will not fix Munsters problems. Age grade rugby in clubs across Munster is way below Leinsters. The standard of coaching in some clubs is terrible at underage level. Munster must put money into schools rugby. Regis Sonnes had a massive effect on rugby in West cork. Replicates that across the province at school and club age grade level.
Stupid decision, are they going to bring someone in who’s better? Doubt it. Same players, same set up, same injuries to contend with but let’s blame the coach. It will be ok after that?!! Nonsense
If he wasn't poached and this is a firing of a good coach that won the league, then the munster Board needs to be fired... and IRFU told to PFO from Munster rugby....
This is a mistake. Rowntree was going places with Munster. Patience and some marquis signings were needed. He didn't get the financial clout from the branch
Munster has had many years of bad decisions - Penny, Rassie, JVG, etc and the present state of the club shows that record. Now if this is their effort to improve things - many if not all on the Board deserve the boot. GR is a good coach - I wish him well.
Bs decision from an out of depth board. We haven't the players to turn a game around apart from Coombes and the national coach and rest of the country doesn't even rate him. Beirne, Murray, Crowley, Nankivell and Nash are decent and Haley is in good form this year but that's only going to get you so far when your front row is getting beaten by every opposition except when the ref needs to give you penalties to make up for the fact he gave your opponent two tries that he shouldn't have allowed.
Either the players are not good enough, or they are not playing for the jersey. It’s car crash rugby. The academy is critical. It’s ABSOLUTELY critical. 80350 at Croke Park and zero atmosphere. It was depressing to be there 2006 and 2008 were the closest I have ever come to a religious experience. I willl NEVER EVER forget being there. It was a privilege Mick Galwey summed up Munster of old when he said no team beats Munster twice. They had a never say die belief that the current players can’t even relate to
They are a pedestrian side. No speed, no cutting edge, no bang. They need all of the above. The NIQ rule is working against Munster at present. There's no point in it if the players coming through are never going to be good enough to represent Ireland. This is the case.
@@chrislanney7995 All our big wins came from our forward pack and the driving maul. Once we lost that caliber of player from the forward pack we were lost.
The NIQ rule is a bit restrictive but is there room for creativity with uk players with irish ancestry? I think maybe it should be suspended for 3 years.
Snyman wanted to stay but Munster chose Klein. Says a lot about the mind set. A basic question needs to be asked: Why has Munster failed to bring out the full potential of the talent that has been available (Coombs being a prime example).
The decision is definitely rash in the context of a rugby club, this is more in line with what a soccerclub would do, so decision feels alien to rugby fans. I suspect and hope there was method in the madness and that there is already a replacement lined up.
I always loved Rowntree's honesty, his interviews were right on the money "no sugar coating". Very unfair all the same ..... my guess is that ROG must have a new 2 piece plan to the Ireland job. If he contacted Munster (unlikely as that is) then this is exactly what you would see. Time will tell I suppose !!!
Lam, not Lamb. And why in the name of all that's good would he leave Bristol who are flying for a small outfit like Munster? And even if he did, how could Munster pay for such a coach? Especially now that JP is more about Limerick hurling than he is about Munster rugby.
Didn't see this coming. Not sure what a change of a coach can achieve if the current squad doesn't have a quality bench com compared to the top 6 in URC.
Agreed, nobody saying it, if players dont have repect for your coach, move on, unless the coach was very bad....I don't like whats going on within for a long time
Time to give Felix Jones a chance. Irish, top level experience, knows SA rugby, double world cup winner and an ex Munsterman. Currently the best person for the job.
It may seem harsh but the signs have been there a while: loosing away to Zebre for the first time ever was abysmal, very lucky to beat Connacht in the first game of the season, Munster skills / handling has gotten worse over the past 2 seasons, defensively they have been shockingly poor (yes Denis Leamy is defence coach but Rowntree is the Head Coach & has to take responsibility for the good & d bad), loosing to Leinster conceded 3 tries in 20 minutes has left alot of question marks over team preparation going into the game. Attack was very blunt in all the games so far this season. I will thank Graham Rowntree for bringing Munster silverware in the form of the URC in his first season but it was time for him to go. Wishing Graham Rowntree all the best. Munster ABÚ!
Does quinny ever listen back to himself…going on and on about players not coming through and not producing players and then says that the green shoots are the young players !!
Ridiculous conversation in many ways. First off, I’d like to remind Ger that Ulster were first to European glory. Secondly, what sort of a Leinster fan didn’t follow his province back in the day because they weren’t successful? Thirdly, Alan demands a five point win over the Lions in Limerick! What’s he basing that on? Leinster didn’t get a BP against them. No wonder SA fans get annoyed with Irish media. I'm afraid Alan and Ger are deluded when they talk about Munster being a big brand and such nonsense. No-one outside of Munster (and Lunster!) think this.
@@JohnRogersMohillian I think you’re right. . The very best of everything good to Connacht Rugby. I love to watch them. Great brand of rugby. Slàn leat👍
The background in Munster is not good so I dont know what youre on about Ger. Costello hasnt done a good job. No top class players coming through. The whole Munster staff should be changed, the are not good enough.
A suggestion for Munster's next Head Coach - and there is a precedent for this suggestion in Gaelic football. After decades softening his backside on TV couches, pontificating how teams should be managed, Colm O'Rourke was appointed Meath county manager. Despite his "decades of experience" PREACHING about how others should manage, O'Rourke didn't come within an asses roar of winning either Leinster or the All Ireland or the League, despite facing a fading, aging Dublin side. So in the spirit of Mr O'Rourke, let me suggest Alan Quinlan. He has as much (little) managerial experience as Colm O'Rourke but, like Mr O'Rourke, his lack of knowledge never keeps him from knowing so much more than Professional, Qualified coaches. Furthermore, Mr Quinlan is an experienced "Eye Gouger" and isn't that exactly what Munster Rugby needs - A Gouger...
get rid of the acadamies, you look at the munster team of the 00s they were tough because of the ail now all muscle , fitness but lacking the hard edge
Ulster have always been the ‘poor’ neighbours in everything IRFU and are still struggling yet seldom get a mention. Reflected in how players made it into the Irish set up or not if on a par with a player from any or the other three provinces. 🤷🏻♂️
They're the second best team in Ireland right now. Even with a lack of silverware. And as an aggrieved Munster fan, Gavin Coombes could walk into either Connacht or Ulster and get ahead of their back rows so don't talk to us about not getting your best players selected.
@@9595RK Darren Cave was neglected and never got picked when O'Driscoll was fit. McCloskey was the same as he was competing with Aki/Henshaw. Coombes is now in that situation with Doris and Ahern has to try and take the jersey from Henderson. At least Izuchukwu is being looked at for 6. Our best players aren't even getting called up for games against tier 2.
@@Kearnage1 Yeah but everyone including other countries (France) loves watching ye play. None of the rest of the provinces tune in for each other but we all watch Connacht.
