Hey this tutorial was exactly what I needed. I was skating all over the tracks, wrecking constantly. You totally nailed this!! Within 20 minutes of practice I can now run consistently without wrecking and can qualify in the top ten in both late-models and modified. Haven;t tried this with SS yet but I'm sure it will work. 2 biggest helps were tweaking the cockpit cam with the camera tool, and the little thing you said about getting straight and using the flag stand as a guide to aim for. I found marks to hit on all the tracks and my times went down like crazy. Thanks so much for this. I was getting so frustrated with any dirt cars but the sprints. Excellent work!!
Thanks for the videos! The anticipation is killing me!!! Steering wheel can't ship here soon enough. It's worse because I used to play iRacing so I know how much fun it is. Now with VR and Dirt tracks...Steam's gonna be measuring my time in years not hours played.
Excellent video! Breaking it down step by step helped so much. I still back steer a little too much sometimes, but that's something I'll have to work on myself. It feels so good sliding around the turns with control. Thanks!
Great, great, great video and explanation. The way you described everything was almost exactly how I was taught to drive a LM when I was a kid and first started racing.
Terrific video ... loved it. I would make a suggestion for future videos: turn off the spotter, and turn down the engine sound relative to your voice. It was difficult to hear some of your commentary, especially near the end where you were on the throttle all the way around the track. Otherwise, i loved it, and I'm going to try your suggestions.
Really an excellent video! I've been a dirt racing fan most of my life, and that's a very long time. When iRacing came out with dirt, wanted to try it but held off a little. Now, I'm in both hands and feet. As mentioned, the late model and this UMP are a bear to keep consistent. I have the same problem, many others mentioned. Entering the corner, it feels like it wants to rotate far too much, even going slowly. First priority will be trying your tips hoping they'll help. Driving a dirt car is a lot more difficult than most realize. I compare it to walking on eggs. You start hammering on these vehicles, and they'll bite you. At least to me, it feels easier to pilot a sprint car than the ump and late model? Anyway, thanks for making a RU-vid of basic driving tips for the ump.
Most would agree it's "easier" to drive the sprint car compared to the UMP and Late. Driving a real dirt car is quite similar to these, but you don;t get the seat of the pants feel. Even on a 8" UMP tire in real life, it's a ton of sidebite and lateral G-forces. Have fun either way. I'm glad you found the videos useful.
thanks for the vid I got my equipment this week and will be a new iracing user soon. I'm gonna use this to get going on dirt, then, I'm gonna find my way onto the same track as you.
I'm really glad that I found your videos. I swear I'd pay you for private tutorial on these late models and that ump modified. I'm okay in sprints, but these make me pull my hair out! I keep trying until I almost hate these things even though I want to learn them. I can't even make 3 clean slow laps with these. I also have the asphalt setups figured out but these setups are like trying to understand Chinese to me. I play with settings and it only gets worse. Please help me lol
Try the tips from this video. In time, it will make a huge difference. When you start to get upset, just stop for a while and return later. These and the lates are definitely the most difficult because as they "fall off the bars" it will shoot the front end of the car to the right. Once you can keep the left rear of the car jacked up, it will become easier to drive.
Hey Graham, can you do another one of these without the spotter and the engine volume lower? This could be a life saver for me on figuring out these mods.
I was new to the video portion and didn't adjust the engine volumes. Hopefully you were able to get something out of the video. It's unlikely I'll redo the video, but keep an eye out for new ones!
I have the same problem, I have adjusted the car every way I know how and then started adjusting wheel settings. It seems that everyone is setting their wheel up differently, I play with those settings quite a bit and I’m getting close. What did help was in options you can put a green driving line around the track and it helps you stay in the groove a bit easier.
At the part where you say follow the contour. I have 2 choices, spin out, or slam the wall. It's impossible to follow the contour. Is there something wrong with my wheel settings?
My graphics settings are shown @3:56 but if you are referring to the track line showing up you need to check the "Render Dynamic Track Data" box. Hope that helps!
