When the restoration of a gramophone or servicing of the motor is complete the final stage is to set the turntable speed. This adjustment is frequently easier if the it can be done without the turntable in place. But will this give an accurate turntable speed when the turntable is in place and a record is being played? This video looks at taking speed readings of two serviced gramophones comparing the results with a record playing, turntable speed with no record playing and the raw speed of the spindle with no turntable in place.
