The island of Gran Canaria, Spain, exceeded our expectations with its stunning natural beauty and diverse landscapes. If you are looking for a warm destination that has both touristic vibes as well as some lesser known gems, then this island is a must-visit!
We visited Gran Canaria in the touristic high season of Christmas, a week in December 2023. We were amazed by what the island had to offer. Gran Canaria is a well known destination for sun-thirsty visitors from northern Europe and we did not expect to find such calm places without crowds. Here you have the choice for both.
Gran Canaria has good public transportation options as well as some of the best motorbike roads in Europe. You can rent a motorcycle, scooter or your own car and this time we decided to explore the island by renting the Honda NC750X DCT (automatic) which was a perfect match for the road conditions when riding 2 up on one motorbike.

We booked and payed in advance and when picking up the bike, everything was well prepared and the process went smoothly. The bike was in excellent condition, came with a full tank of gas and we were offered a complimentary phone holder with charging plus a topbox.
Gran Canaria is a great island for driving a motorcycle and to explore what many describes as "a miniature continent on one island" with all the different scenery.
** We chose to stay in the Northern part of the island, since we wanted to avoid the tourists crowds in the popular South. Our stay in AirbnB 'Bright home' was comfortable and centrally located, yet quiet and away from the touristy part.
