I love the mod you're working on now, not only does it fix the horrible sound of the GT4, but it also fixes some of the car quite problematic issues (one of the problems being the Peugeot 905 transmission). Will you include several iconic car brands that are not in GT4 in the future? Sorry if my English is bad
Given the limitations of both the ps2 hardware and the GT4 engine for synthesizing those sounds, this is better than I thought was possible. It's always gonna have that synthetic GT4 vibe to it, but they have the right engine notes and some of them sound notably good. That S2000 really sounds better than a lot of poorly done VTEC sounds I've seen in some low quality assetto corsa mods
This is what I'm aiming for so I'm glad it comes off I have to accept that with ~150KB worth of limits for each car I'm not exactly going to achieve perfection, but as long as it's a noticeable upgrade from vanilla *and* you can hear the real car's tone in there somewhere, I'm happy
@@Uilliam56 Thanks, basically just a consequence of it being a PS2 game I think, not an awful lot of memory to work with but with fairly detailed cars/tracks for the time, something has to give
I even made some code changes to the game so that the engine sound doesn't drop out when you're idling - for some reason it would only play the exhaust
Are you sure? For a decent sound in GT4, there are 100 crappy choosen. 20 years later, I still hardly understand why they swapped the racing exhaust RB26, remained in GT500 GTR and somehow LMP1s, with a rotary sound. Then... Panoz Esperante GTR, Peugeot 206 WRC, Saleen S7, Supra 3S, M3 GTR road & race each, TS020, Sauber-Mercedes, 905, FIAT 500, HPE R32, 190 Evo road & race each, Vipers (the only game that missed Viper's sound) , the fictionals Camaro and Ford GT racecars, and I'm only talking of the not tuned by the player cars... impressive how much you can memorize after having passed teen years on a game!
Couple of quick things to note: - The sound for the 1969 Dodge Charger was changed briefly after Rowdy received this build and sounds a lot better than in this video - The Delta WRC, Sprinter Trueno, and Toyota 7 aren't *new* sounds but rather ones that were shuffled by me making some internal changes - their sounds in this video definitely aren't final and will still improve
I'm VERY happy that you guys are taking your times. Better to have an immaculate, once in a life time kind of update here. Gt4 is a special game, it deserves a special tretment. 😊
So this is completely unrelated to the sounds but I'm wondering, will the mod enable you to use certain special cars for races? For example, the Auto Union Type C could only be used for Nordschleife time attack and Test Course speed tests.
@@Tremendouz Generally I won't be allowing special cars in races because they're disallowed for a reason (memory for the most part) The Auto Union specifically I'm unsure about, but at this late stage I think it would take too long to test to confidently allow it into events
Couldn't get the GT7 one or another more accurate one, so I figured the GT3 sound would be nice fanservice. Helps that it kind of sounds like a V6 as well
im so glad that most of the cars were replaced with realistic car sound equal to real life Different and improved sounding whine when racing Transmission is installed (Race cars) spec 2.0 modders did a great job
These sounds are insane. 😆 it’s really amazing to see how this classic is getting this kind of support. My only criticism with this video in particular is having the TCS off. It felt like half of the video was the revs banging, whilst in Part 1 it was turned on. You could listen to the whole rise and fall of RPMs to feel the entire band of sound.
Thank God they Sound Designer knew it was a Flat-plane sound, most people think it's Cross-plane from all the fake M3 GTR Replicas people make irl. I'm so glad someone was competent enough to play attention.

@@Steventhe2nd Ugh. How many times am I gonna even have to explain this. The one in Most Wanted Wasn't even the right one to begin with! It was from a TVR Cerbera Speed 4, changed the tone to make it sound higher then it originally was, and there you go. The end.
Would be nice but not possible, at least yet. IMO the RX-7 LM looks better in 4 than 3, and the FTO looks better in 3 than 4, so I would be interested in adding it if ever possible.
In the game the sauber c9 sounds like a vacuum cleaner meanwhile in real life it is one of the loudest rumbling V8s ever created 😅😂 they should have just had it sound like a v8 from the beginning lmao
Man this mod is just glorious, the job you did with the C6R is incredible, and i like what you did with some of the sounds for that whining engine sounds for some cars, it's amazing!
It's interesting how in some cases the spec II sound is a similar to the original but with more depth and layers, while in others it is completely different. Its clear that for some cars, Polyphony used *generic race car noise* or some obvious carryovers from the older GT games, like the Mx5 and Mustang which sound like theyre straight out of GT2.
The issue in GT4’s engine sounds has always been the way they were recorded. As seen in the linked video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EsyM9QMYjKw.html) engine sounds are recorded while the vehicle is stationary. Sound engineers are directed to hold the engine speed at a given RPM to record a single loop. A GT4 engine sound is made up of probably 6 or 7 of these loops (some for low revs, some for midrange and some for high revs). The issue is that a car sounds completely different at wide open throttle under load than at part throttle while stationary. Race cars, in particular, _hate_ part throttle. They’ll misfire, sputter and emit a coarse exhaust note at part throttle, which is why so many of the race cars in GT4 and GT5 sound so awful. The solution is to find recordings-whether it be from games or other sources-which depict an engine under load and at wide open throttle. The Spec II team seems to have done just that.
Even with the pre-GTS sound aesthetic, they all sound distinctive now. Granted, they still have the infamous vaccum-ish sound, but at least they can now gnarly, rough, and raspy just as how they're supposed to he.

after.. idk, 10-12 years still didn't got to 100% with my original GT4 on ps4. i'm like at 98% or something but once this mod get's launched i will try and play it on an emulator till 100%
Really good work with this mod, one of the worst parts about gt4 was the sounds. So this mod will be a gamechanger. Will this mod make any changes to the cars perfomence upgrades.
The Escudo sound replacement sounds a lot like the GT3 rendition of it, which IMO was a much closer to the actual true sound of the real 98 Escudo Pikes Peak. Big thumbs up from me
I’m so keen for this, after revisiting GT4 on emulator I realise I’ve been spoilt by modern games for sound files. This particular mod has me holding out to replay GT4, and I can’t wait!
I'm pleased with most of the sounds, they are broadent and mostly the V8's are having great benefits. The S2000 did sound little less screamy and have a bit more bass feel. The C5R really did benefit and sounds like they always have on the racetrack :) The Fiat Coupé finally sounds proper with it's i5 engine counterpart Volvo 850 T5R. The 787B sounds frickin' awesome now, more crisp and better overall
It's taken from GT7's Pennzoil GT-R sound which is also quite sedate. The Mine's and tuned R34s have their own very distinct sound which IMO is actually nothing like the JGTC cars. I'd be happy to look into suggestions for a better source but I think if you compare to JGTC onboard footage it sounds fairly close.
@@TheAdmiester Yeah the Mine’s one is very good, has that weird rasp almost like the 2f2f one. I honestly don’t even know if the jgtc skylines had a 6 cylinder because the gt500 supra had a 4cyl so anything is possible I guess
I don't like so much the new wheelspin sound, it sounds very soft in comparison to how violent and funny the original wheelspin sounded, and I also feel a bit bad that they removed the "supercharger" sound of the Mustang SVT Cobra :c
Don't say that... after having passed teenyears with Rfactor sounds made by ripping sounds of backfires rather than engines, then everything passed to Assetto Corsa. I love GT sounds, by this base is easy adding the secondaries, imagine using GT sounds on Rfactor, with a good library of secondaries
I love the spec 2 mod Peugeot 905 sound , but should this not have been used for the formula gt car instead , as it sounds more like a 2004 F1 car @RowdyGT
Fantastic work!!👏👏👏 I played this game for years, as well as the second game, which still thrills me when I play it and also received spectacular modifications. I really love the legendary Mazda 787B and what a phenomenal sound it got.🤩🤩🤩 Subaru Impreza Rally, and all the others are too epic too Only one I didn't really like, which is the Jaguar XJR9, because it should be close to the sound that the Mercedes Sauber C9 emits, and the original sound is better, but even so, I really liked the work itself. @@RowdyGT Yes, you're right👍 Wrongly, I believed that the XJR-9 had a V8 Turbo Compressor engine too 😅 (And the sounds of both in other modern games tend to be more "noisy bass" but I didn't notice that difference)
Hi Rowdy! I have a question. Does the Spec II sound mod change also the sound when you install a sport, semi racing or racing muffler? Or are the other mufflers seperate sound samples and the sound stays the same as in the original game when you use the Spec II mod and choose another muffler? Btw, can't wait to give GT4 another go with this mod! THX
For the initial release the idea is that 99% of cars will retain their stock sounds through all upgrades, but some significant popular engines (e.g. RB26s and so on) will change. It's mostly just because I'm one person working on the mod and adding upgrade levels to everything would triple my workload.

Don't know why I thought that. However, I can't even imagine how much work you are investing in this mod.
