True. As much is I like to keep shooting photos outside, sometimes it's not ideal especially if it's off season or the weather doesn't permit it. It's a nice feature to have if you do car photography.
@@antwangothere's nothing wrong with him having the same feeling but with Forza. there's literally no need to make a comment like yours. I grew up with both games and I honestly love both of them.
The Cannery Row (Monterey) is local to me, and I go there often. Love the Aquarium. It's like I know everything around that area. It was wild to see GT Scapes include it and the area! Some folks don't like the new Grand Valley, but it feels like home to me!
I live right near the Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa and was surprised to see it in the game! New Grand Valley Highway-1 is like a Cliffs Notes version of that drive along the coast! Love it so much
The new Grand Valley kind of blew my mind because a few years ago I drove from SF to LA down SR 1 and made a video about it where I said that the tunnel section kind of reminded me of Cote d'Azur in GT and here we are a few years later with the tunnel I drove through now in the game.
They had this all the way back in GT4 with their photo mode. Spent a lot of time both at GT4 photo locations and taking shots from replays. But you could place the car AND camera location and move it around. So much more freedom, it was great. I still think it's a bit of trickery for them to look "photo real" when the car is the only thing the game renders and the rest is a photo on scapes and a static camera location. It's a lot easier to do a single frame render as well vs putting it in motion.
But the challenge is that the vehicle (or vehicles, since you can have a few) look correctly against the real background even as they are real time objects calculated on the fly and not an offline render. That’s how impressive the mode is and how fantastic the entire shading and lighting pipeline for the game is.
If you go and take a photo of your car during a race it's going to look as good. It's just that they can't spend hours modeling 1000 locations in 3D with ultra realistic textures etc. Also the game would be 500Gb
Scapes kept me sane during the pandemic. I like that they've added camera height adjustment. I hope they expand on that. Would be nice to have that on all of them.
I've been teaching photography using video game photo modes and Gran Turismo 7 is the closest I felt to real world photography. Happy to see you post this video!
@@LarryChenPhoto I shared it if you want the right template for SR swap. it's under "orangebang" and "larrychen" and "autofocus" tags for the Fairlady Z 432 '69. I left it open template in case you got your own decals or want to make adjustments.
Only reason i have a TV is to output sound to my two large speakers to enhance the rumble of the engine while racing with the PSVR2 and a g29/shifter set-up…. Its wild!!!! 🔥 even on a cheap seat/rig combo.
@@stuntdrvr I'm an A/S driver and flat screen is generally faster. You can get the gap down to about a second with practice. But the immersion you get in VR is unparalleled.
You’re living the dream Larry. I hope to meet you in person one day. I too grew up on gran turismo and the knowledge it gave me before the internet was massive. I was a JDM head very early on. Thanks to Honda
Sometimes I’m glad I live in Los Angeles , all of these spots are like local for us. Awesome video Larry ! Guess I need to go get the new update for my GT7 now 🔥
I'm a Forza Horizon player but I really love GT7 too. Lately, I have been binge watching GT7 content and my objective for next year is to buy a PS5 and get GT7. The game looks awesome and the main reason I want to get the game is to mess around with the Scapes mode since I'm a photographer and I love experimenting with the photo mode in many games.
As a long time GT fan, it's easily the worst GT game ever made and one of the worst racing games out rn. It's literally visuals and NOTHING else. Do NOT waste money on this game. The fanbase refuses to talk about the game honestly, and the devs focus on marketing the game such as this video more than fixing bugs from day one that haven't been fixed. I highly recommend watching Roflwaffle's videos on the game
I remember way back when the first Gran Turismo came out. The first time I played it was at a friends house. I stayed up all night playing and was hooked.
This is so cool to see. The photo mode in Gran Turismo 4 is actually how I got interested in car photography, and it totally gave me a head start once I started shooting cars in real life. It got to the point where I wasn't even racing in GT4 anymore, I spent all my time taking photos of my cars.
To further my comment, GT7 is a game made by car enthusiasts, FOR car enthusiasts. Sure, it's not the most realistic simulator in the world, but all of that fades away when you see all of the love and passion they put into this game. Especially when it runs on a $500 console. I haven't played GT since GT4. I always loved playing that game at age 11 and I've always wanted to come back. GT7 has refueled my passion for cars on top of what it already was, so I thank Polyphony Digital for doing that. P.S. Turn10, do better. Make a comeback by making a game like FM4.
Bro ,,, like ,,, seriously, I'm blown away by the color grading, your music choice, your cinematics, audio, ... wow , flawlessss victoooryyy 😂 I wish one day to make such awesome content man, this was really inspiring. Also I reguraly sim race on GT7 and I gotta say those are some sweeeeet shots at both real and gt7 and insaaanely close
My Gran Turismo story: I had an N64 with golden eye, 1080 snowboarding and Mario 64 and a couple others, I saw a commercial for Gran Turismo my jaw hit the floor, i Immediately started trying to sell my N64 by calling my friends and letting as many people know that i was selling a brand new N64 with games, it didnt take long my sisters friend had bought it, i had just enough money for the ps1 system and Gran Turismo no memory card.. I wasnt able to save games at first but i didnt care i loved just starting fresh getting my licenses buying my first car and racing it, Legendary.
Me too every night....for 25 years....Im so glad you did this...GT never disappoint ❤❤ BTW I have 6 pages of pictures of my 490 car collection lol one down side is max cars you can have on the shot is 3 😢 but you can take photos during race so....
I haven't had a Playstation since the 3rd one. An I see how much I have missed put on from ur video an love ur set up an the amount of detail you put into what u do is definitely worth it. ❤
I just got a PS5 solely for GT7 and I'm so glad that I did. I kind of regret not buying it sooner, but honestly, I'm glad that I waited because it's been updated so well. I LOVE this mode more than racing in the game, which is insane.
There are days where all I do in GT7 is Scapes, or Livery creations I even took a photo of my E30 M3, in Palos Verdes back in the day, that I can now replicate in GT7 Game within a game within a game
I can't say I care much for the scapes my self, really wish was that we could drive on all of them and the best would be a true good open world game with GT physics cause I don't like Forza Horizon gameplay neither The Crew and there's nothing truly simcade as a final product, the only way is fully modding Assetto Corsa but still won't make it a full finished true open world racing game and is way more simulator opposed to simcade...
I feel you Larry, been with GT since day one on the og PS1!! 😅 I love scapes and always love taking photos of my garage cars in GT7. I make sure I spend a good 20-30mins lining up sum cool shots of various locations with sick supercars. Great vid! Hope to cya in London sumtime!! 😂👍
Gran Turismo is the best racing simulator. It's really nice to see someone have a similar experience when it comes to gaming. I've also learned an incredible amount of car knowledge just from the Gran Turismo alone.
Thats how I learned to master the tracks, simulate to figure out how many corners on track and. When to brake. I used to do eem blinfold lmao, I luv it. Bet I can run attack 🧭
I did something similar to this in Tokyo, but I had no car lol. I went spot hunting and recreated some of the angles. GT Scapes was one of the best additions to the series ever!
Scapes is serious business. I always loved photography but don't really do it anymore. And I've always loved cars. So, Scapes in GT7 is my chance and outlet to revisit that hobby.
What they have done with the game is amazing. The in game shots look so close to reality, only obvious trigger is that the game car is RHD and your car is LHD. And that’s an issue with the USA not Gran Turismo
Fond memories of Gran Turismo 1 seeing Honda Preludes, R34 and RX7 etc remember thinking in the replays how can graphics get any better... Some of the shots are crazy close you took in Scapes. I do love a bit of Scapes and really like the reflections it uses in puddles for example. Always fun to play with my own car and place it in random places too.
you shoulda used the same focal length. Seems like the irl pics were shot with a 25mm or 35mm lens whereas the in-game pics looks like they were shot with a 50mm or higher. Pretty identical though.
Hello 👋 from Ireland 🇮🇪 Larry i love your channel and your work 😀 you have captured the most important moment of car culture of this generation Larry your a legend 😀 , I love GT it's the whole reason why i JDM cars 🚗 thanks for the memories larry 😊keep up the great work much respect my friend and never stop shooting and driving 😅😊
God I love the LFA. I don’t care what anyone says about it, it is truly a masterpiece of Toyota design and engineering. That sound has to be the closest to an F1 note in a production vehicle next to the Carrera GT
Love the video. Also started playing GT1 (demo) way back in the PS1 era. Though I love GT2 the most, GT1 has this unique thing where ALL cars can be modified as a race car in the workshop (vinyl, performance, everything). It was fun. We literally have people who spend most of the time playing GT7 in the GT Scape mode. It really is a game of its own (not for competition but definitely for content/art sharing)
Imma say this i have made a photo realistic shot in Beverly Hills with my "AE85" build on GT Sport and when i show it to people they get confused on it at first seeing a levin parked up in an expensive area looking like it was actually there
It's too late now I guess, but for extra realism you could've removed the in-game car's front plate in the GT Auto area. Cool to see a pro photographer play around with this, though!
