Gran Turismo Movie Review 

I've a lot to say about this one as a car (and Nissan) enthusiast. Right off the bat, I enjoyed it a lot, and would give it four stars. Here are my main things: - It was so much fun. A lot of feel good stuff like you said. I absolutely loved Jann's relationship with his father, and how much they put into it. Jann's relationship with Jack Salter was wonderful. Jann as a character was real, and I felt like I knew him within the first five minutes. - Amazing car scenes for an enthusiast. - Stakes for Jann were done very well. - The way of turning the video game into a movie with such a cool real life story was a genius way to make a video game movie. My critiques were more about its quality as a film, than about a feel good, racing story: - My number one critique: I think the story would've been much better served if it was a short TV show, with similar structure to Queen's Gambit. There was just so much to tackle as a movie, and a lot of it flew by too fast in my opinion. Like you said, the real story spanned five years. - For one, I had literally no investment in the love interest. Did not work for me. She was in like three scenes total, and felt like a third wheel to the story from beginning to end. - With more time, I'd have loved to have seen more of Nissan and Nismo, and the politics of the entire story. Because like they said, it was really risky, but the movie didn't have time to explore that. (I also love Nissan's sports cars which is why I'd have liked to have seen more behind the scenes stuff from Nismo) - Going off of that, I never really knew what the movie wanted me to think of Danny Moore. I bounced back and forth a lot on him, and at the end I didn't really feel like I knew him. - Like you mentioned, his family just disappears in the middle for an hour. The dad was an amazing character, and I was so disappointed when we didn't get any reactions from him for Jann's success until Le Mans at the end of the film. - So many races got cut short here. Like half the movie is races, but they're all so short. And they just gave us updates with Jann's position. A TV show format would've allowed for these races to be developed much more. - The story of the creator of Gran Turismo deserved more time. The relationship between the video game and real life was great (don't get me wrong there), but there was another point about Jann admiring the creator of the game, to the extent that it's how the movie opened, and that felt underdeveloped. All in all, I loved the movie, but I just wished we could've seen it fleshed out more. If you took the time to read this, then thank you lol. Let me know what you think.

Not gonna be able to catch it in theaters, but I am in high hopes for it. Surprised to hear the amount of praise it’s getting, and it would be another solid addition to video game movies/adaptations. Would be cool if it ends up as high as Cyberpunk Edgerunners, FF7 Advent Children, Street Fighter II, Mario, Sonic, and Arcane for me 👍

As a OG GT player, this movie is absolutely fantastic. Definitely go see it!

As someone who knew little to nothing about the games and was so sick of seeing the trailer every time I went to see something else,this is by far the biggest surprise I’ve seen all year. While any film that is based or inspired on a true story is most likely more fake than actually true,it’s still a well written film just on its own. The character development and acting is really strong and can get quite emotional. The racing sequences have a unique style to them that remain both intense and fun at the same time. With all that being said,It’s a really well made film based off of a real life story and a video game at the same time. It blends so much together and manages to balance it out quite nicely. Definitely one I’d rewatch many times in the future and hopefully one that doesn’t remain forgotten.

This is a sleeper hit for 2023! Really good movie

I’m excited for it; this game was my childhood! I still remember playing GT3 and GT4 religiously growing up! Going to see it this weekend

Saw this in 4Dx today, what a ride, highly recommend in this format if you get the chance.

Pretty solid movie. I liked Jann’s character arc and David habours’s character a lot

I saw a pre screening last Sunday (19th) and I loved it! It was so good. My screening had an interview with a panel of producers, video game exec, director and Jann. I’m a sports, car, and video game movie lover so it was probably 300% up my alley but still. It was very well acted and the racing was off the charts!

This has me super hyped for the film. Seeing it on Sunday so now I honestly can't wait

Never been interested in sports/race car movies...... but, WOW.. I LIKE this film ALOT 8/10 for me❤😊!!!! very inspirational movie !! leading actor is attractive & VERY TALL 6'2!??? I hope this young man will get more leading roles....

I loved it…just everything about it was awesome plus this was one of my favorite games of all time, it’s what got me into car games and learning about downforce and all that tuning stuff

I saw this 2 weeks ago and it was really fun. As a PlayStation fan and gran turismo fan and just a movie lover, this movie hit all the right notes for me. It was thrilling, fun and there was that one really dark moment 9if you’ve seen it then you’ll know what I’m talking about) 8/10

I saw it with some friends today, and we all enjoyed it. It's a good movie.

I had a great time with this one, definitely a pleasant surprise this year for me. Never been a Gran Turismo fan, but I am now (i don't have any of the games and i can't play them, but still)

I liked the cameo of Yamauchi as the sushi chef lol

The actor that plays the main character was in "Voyagers", an ok sifi movie at best. He is an upcoming actor to look out for though.

GT was a pinnacle part of my childhood. The film was so good!

Saw this today, this was actually surprisingly good

I'm planning on seeing this movie this weekend. So far my number 1 favorite movie is a 3 way tie between Guardians Vol.3, Fast X, and MI7. Maybe I might have a 4 way tie with those 3 movies and Gran Turismo. Can't wait to see it.

Watched it on National cinema day. It was actually pretty good 👍🏻

Funny that you mentioned the "disappearance" of the parents because I completely felt, the family dynamics play such a big part on the first third that the lack of them for the following acts was notable.

Not in any rush, but plan to watch this soon!

I feel like people need more traditional new movies, even if for diehard cinephiles it feels repetitive. Subverting expectations all the time can feel confusing and exhausting.

Really pleasant surprise. 8/10

It's Safe to say 2023 is the year of Game Adaptaions. Last of Us Twisted Metal Super Mario Movie Sonic Prime Season 2 which does a better job of explaining the Multiverse than Marvel😂 And Now Grand Turismo.

Critics weren't out of touch at all, this film isn't bad, which was in itself a surprise, but it's not very good either, the writing is awfully bland and the directing disappointing, given who made it.

this movie is well just bad it really isnt that much of a true story

Enjoy the game but the movie looks pretty silly.
