I just visited the Alhambra a few months ago and it was absolutely amazing! From floor to ceiling, the design and architecture was beautiful to see. I definitely recommend a visit if you are in Andalucia. Also, the palace is very popular, so book tickets online in advanced-- you can pick a time slot and not worry about queuing to buy a ticket at the office.
I'll be vlogging about Granada and Andalucia until July if anyone is curious :) The Alhambra is tough to avoid, anywhere you go in this city you can pretty much see it. I booked tickets for June but you can go earlier if you line up really early in the morning or book a tour for about 40 euros. It's a great city and i've only been here a week so far.
After reading comments, it is shocking for me to find out so many viewers do not believe that Arab moors led by Umayyad Caliphate conquered entire Iberian peninsula. It is a fact! Please read honest history sources or google it if you do not have time! Whether you like it or not, not only they did so, but they were about to conquer France as well, but Franks army led by Charles Martel defeated them in the battle of Tours. The battlefield was near city of Tours in Central France. And please try to understand that Islamic powers and people during middle ages were really different from what they are nowadays . If it makes it easier, I can give you a loose example: They were something like European countries of today world, whereas European kingdoms during dark and middle ages were more like of today's not-developed countries.
Thank you for a beautiful introduction to such a magnificent space. Your blend of just-enough history for context and respect for what you're seeing allows La Alhambra to remain the star.
Stunning, huge in real life, with many different areas. Somewhat complicated map and descriptions online. I was entrapped here last night. I bring a portable and very small flashlight (Everbrite brand???) for moments when I get trapped in palaces.
Hello Sir! Excellent Work by you to promote Granada. Thanks a lot for making the wonderful video I would like to inform you that I have shared your video on Facebook to promote Granada to tourists of India and others
This is a true work of art. In the video it looks awesome, but in real life, even more. It is incredibly breathtaking making your jaw drop in complete admiration of such talent. It is highly monitored to insure it's preservation. For instance, guards are quick to remind tourists to not touch anything and watch their hands when someone is getting too close to a wall (oil will deteriorate the material over time) for example. An elderly native told us that when she was a child, they would go play in those pools and ponds for fun as if going to the park. On a different note: The victory of the Reconquista (13:15) helped in the foundation of Spain's "Golden Age" but also stealing all our gold (besides many other goods) also helped ! 1492 was also the year when they invaded our continent, stole our riches, massacred and raped our ancestors. Also another theft was and still is our land. Free gold, riches and land will make anyone rich for sure. Yeah, 1492 was a great year for them indeed! The Alhambra in Granada is a beautiful place worthy of much admiration, respect and a treassure for humanity (UNESCO World Heritage Site). My previous comment about the horrific crimes Spain perpetrated on our people is based on history books-facts.
Luis Lopez I had to look up Alex Jones, Idk who that was. Also, your assumption of my nationality is incorrect. Lastly, regardless of how aggressive one tribe might have been, they NEVER systematically annihilated another. Therefore, tribal feuding is no justification for the Holocaust inflicted upon us. By us, I mean the entire continent from Alaska to Patagonia.
Alex Jones is a nut job. While many abuses occurred because of the conquest of the New World, the overall effect was a positive one. Independent of how you feel about Christianity, you can't deny the benefits of Western culture. The good of it is emulated throughout the world: democracy, philosophy, the fine arts, the rational method within certain limits-- I don't subscribe to all of it, etc.
Wall engravings used to shine in turquoise, green, red and golden colors. Rather than investing to restore them at least partly, they prefer to keep them pale, colorless. There's not even a model, depiction, figure or painting that reflects its original impressiveness. Also could they display replicas of the original stuff of the palace, objects, plants, carpets, clothing, furniture or set up if not re-enactments of ceremonies and official events, then audiovisual recreations of them for which foreign series production companies would be pleased to help. But no, they prefer the Alhambra to be empty. At least they could place some informative labels about the Nasrid Emirate Era, genealogies, historical events, each space served which purpose. Any kind of information is required to be provided to the common visitor and is not at odds with tour or audio guides for a more in-detail explanation. But no, only the visits of few people who walked into the Palace in the last couple centuries are commemorated on signboards. La belleza de la Alhambra da para mostrarla en todo su esplendor, decorada y bien vestida pero en lugar de eso, se prefiere no invertir esfuerzo y exhibirla pobre y desnuda. The beauty of the Alhambra is well enough to show it in all its glory, decorated and well-dressed. But instead, it is preferred to not invest any efforts and exhibit it meager and naked.
They also created “Algebra & Matrices & Algorithms & discovered many complex calculations & while simplifying the maths we have today - the fundamentals of it. It is how it is. For example getting rid of roman numbers & finding a simpler form to handle more complex geometric calculations. Also, Calculus as well that we see today. It had to be taken up with the existing methods of that time & rather redefining how we look at things. One of the biggest scientific solutions was methodological solutions - sop’s to proof equations & new scientific thinking & modelling
its a little bit misleading, because they didnt mention that the architects which developed this style in North Africa and Spain were brought in from freshly conquered byzantine, persian and Syrian areas of the islamic empire. They used and mixed elements from the antique architecture and developed them further. the arabs itself were not very developed, but in the beginning they had leaders which used the cultural and intellectual heritage of the lands and people they conquered to integrate it into their new islamic society and culture.
JTHBS cool. They also created “Algebra & Matrices & Algorithms & discovered many complex calculations & while simplifying the maths we have today - the fundamentals of it. It is how it is. Rick Steves is wrong when he says that the palace of Charles the fifth is the finest renaissence one in Spain. The finest (and largest ) one is close to Madrid and it's called El Escorial.
Within the first 30 seconds, 3 historical aberrations. I understand this is a casual travel show that does not need to become a history thesis, but to make such huge errors only goes to preserve American's atrocious knowledge of history and cultures. It's embarrassing. A) Spain did not exist. Spain did not come into existence until 800 years later. The name was either Iberia a geographical name, or Hispania, the former roman province. That would be like talking about the US in the Renaissance period. B) The Moors conquered 2/3 of Hispania. The name of the kingdom of Castile (land with castles) was born from the line of defense castles alongside the no-man's land that existed on the northern border of Al Andalus, the Iberian Moorish territories. The most accepted reason why they never attempted to conquer all of it was because of "The Route of St James" the most important christian pilimgrimage in Europe. The Moors (wisely so) did not want to attract the ire of the whole christian Europe upon themselves, specially the feared Frankish kingdom. C) The Moors did not convert the population at all and there was a reason why: Money. The Moors charged a tax to allowed people to pray to their faiths, one of the main sources of income for their kingdoms. If you are going to tax folks for praying it is in your benefit for they keep their faith. It has the additional benefit of making the conquered less likely to revolt. Later in history Christian kingdoms adopted this idea in places like Sicily, Cyprus and Malta C'mon. This basic stuff now.
Just one thing; I was wrong about the conquering of Iberia by the Moors; During the height of Omaya Caliphate, which was as big as the Roman empire and ranged from Afghanistan to Spain, Spain was almost entirely conquered by Moors, the Kingdom of Asturias was the sole hold up place for christianity and from where the "Reconquista" begun. Had it fallen, the history of the world would have been much different: No Asturias, no Reconquista, no Reconquista, no Queen Isabel, no Queen Isabel no Colombus and thus no New World. Sorry, Prolixity,..,.my burden to bare.
Not even by the Romans? El País Vasco no sólo fue conquistado por los Romanos, sino que los Vascos combatieron junto a ellos traicionando al resto de las tribus de Hispania y Galia.
This man is incorrect the Moors did not conquer the entire Iberian peninsula really it was about 3/4 of it and not everyone converted to Islam. The Iberian's were Celts and Visigothic and the main religions were Arianism and Catholicism.
They conquer most of it and the spansih were celt and phoenician followed by the roman and visigoth celt and phoenician melt in each other and they were brothers formed one nation romans and visigotht were so mean with the inhabitant of iberia reread good the history book mate
@@KnightWicked The Spanish back then did call themselves Spanish, Romans were the ones to call the Iberians "Hispanos", all Iberians we're basically different tribes of Celts, Iberians and Germanics like the Suevi and Vandals and the Visigoths.
In those ages, the Moors tolerated different religions and ideologies. In these ages, not so much. In Spain, we are very tolerant, so you can come if you want, but don't expect it impose Sharia law on us.
I a Moroccan myself and totally agree with you. Sharia law is outdated and should not be imposed anywhere (not even in Arabic countries). I can tell you that I feel closely related to Spanish people in Andalucia, and our cultures share a bond. Spanish culture is beautiful, and the Moorish culture was beautiful as well. Just know that not all Arabs/Moroccans are religious fanatics. I like to consider myself a well educated Moroccan with tolerance towards anyone (gay, black, white etc.).
You simply lack the info to say that and your arguments are based on an ideology in which human thoughts are good anchors to base laws on, sharia means law, and for anyone who thinks they're bad laws, go read carefully what it has to offer, and only then you can say anything about it logically.
A pity you cannot see the lion foutain, instead of showing a man speaking ! the voice off is much better and this fountain is really missing from this video otherwise well made
thanks for the great intro I think Alhambra palace is the greatest monument of the Arabic and Islamic civilization I prefer though if you didn't use the term moors
Great work. Much greater that we reconquered whole Spain ✝️🙏🏻🌅🇪🇸💪🏻⚔️✋🏻since 02.01.2022 it's 530 years now! ❤️Arriba España! The moors were just invaders who ruled the others as dimmis.
THen tell me why you think it was? Because of hte US which came after? We saved them from the bloodthirsty Azteks and build Universities not even 100 years after Columbus. Access to all Indios and Mestizos. Child forget about the Hollywood stuff and the indoctrination of University.
