Ah, Redneck Incest Elon Musk was the perfect cast for more Didney disappointment. He even brought a hot-rod tattooed Ster Werz Distroyah with him showing off his beer belly not looking like the character at all. Hey, why not name a random character Claudia, Tina or Sabine for absolutely no reas... oh, nevermind...
I know right. Physically Benedict Cumberbatch would’ve been a better fit but damn that voice is so subtle yet intimidating that it too prefect not to cast the original voice actor.
"hes the villan Star Wars needed" Can you imagine if the sequels featured Thrawn as the villaind and leader of the imperial remnant. Instead of... boring guy Snoke who gets killed off, the manchildren Kylo and Hux, and Sheev retconned to be alive. What a mess of a trilogy jesus.
@@alcoballic9593 Benedict would of been perfect for the visuals but could not do the voice. They chose Lars Mikkelsen as he voiced Thrawn in Rebles and he nailed it. Same here got the voice perfect. Its just the way Lars speaks makes him perfect for the role. They may explain his physic with the neglect and degradation of his army (been stranded for so long). Even his uniform is torn in places and dirty.
Also Thrawn: Who decided on the Organ Theme music? One soldier raises his hand: I thought if you were going to reveal yourself, Admiral, we might as well give you some theme music to suit the moment. Thrawn: Acceptable. You're promoted.
100% nailed Thrawn. His entrance couldn't have been more perfect. He was elegant, intelligent, and polite...but at the same time you felt cold chills and intimidation as well. You could sense how dangerous he was when he was not told of the prisoner. Even the mothers and jedi knew their place when dealing with him.
As a military leader, information is his weapon. Discovering information had been withheld from him would be like Vader discovering someone knocked his lightsaber off the charging pad and now he's stuck at work, it's down to 30%, and nobody has a friggen compatible charger.
This is how I actually imagined Thrawn. Not a imposing figure. But a competent student of war. Not arrogant, or charismatic, but calm and relaxed, in control. Studious, polite and capable, but with a thinly veiled malice hidden away.
Disagree, he effuses a quiet, menacing, ruthless, caluclating charisma and air of threat, you absolutely know and understand that this is not a man to trifle with.
I love that you can see how beaten up Thrawn's force is from the nine year exile in another freaking galaxy without a resupply or Fleet facilities but instead of discipline becoming lax, he has kept his troops in fighting condition.
Beat up indeed, but I think there’s something more to them than just being battle-worn and weathered. The cracked armor, the Night Sister ribbons on them, the gold and dark metal plates plus their distorted voices makes me think they’re undead. Most likely reanimated by the Night Sisters. I’d be surprised if they’re just regular troopers with weathered armor.
@@michaelsebi maybe some of them are reanimated... or maybe they are "enhanced" like Opress Savage was (but less physically and more in mental fortitude and discipline)
You're looking at an army that has been deemed MIA or likely KIA for *9* years. Thrawn directly pointed out that their numbers had dwindled. Though it is very likely they are zombies now (the majority or perhaps entirety of the Stormtroopers) Apparently the subtitles referred to them as Night Troopers, which almost certainly does mean they are the reanimated fallen of the Chimaera. Thrawn has been trapped on this planet for ~9 years, apparently. Chances are, his entire crew perished. A lot of Imperials died on and over Lothal. More may have been killed just getting to Peridea (this planet of the Nightsisters, at least according to what this episode explained) Just how many zombie troopers there are is unknown though it is likely Filoni (the objectively overrated writer he is) has just simplified it and turned them all into zombies. There might be a few living dudes but we'll see I guess. I think the red/burgundy wrapping on the armour is meant to refer to the same fabrics the Nightsisters use on their zombie nightsisters to keep them together. The makeshift repairs and what even looks like grey epoxy filler/moulds for broken sections and pieces, would speak to 9 years of being trapped on a hostile planet. The fact Thrawn deemed just 2 squads sufficient to go after some of the other characters, likely implies how few of them there are left. He won't risk losing too many. They won't be his main army. I strongly doubt that. They are transporting something and it's likely Pellaeon will rejoin him with his fleet.
@@muudiser I kept seeing the figure of 5 years since Lothal being mentioned yesterday. I wondered if it was longer. Has Filoni given a set time when this is happening exactly? I was under the impression it was roughly after ROTJ.
Thrawn is perfectly balanced: Reasonable compared to the empire, yet ruthless compared to the New Republic. And still more competent than the failures of both.
He is, Filonis movie is tying all the D+ Star Wars Series, minus Andor, together with Thrawn as the big bad. All leading up to the Resistance Series and the Sequel Trilogy.
He returns more than once in Legends, and it makes no sense to imagine he would reign for only a few decades and then pass it all on to Vader or Luke. Still RoS was a terrible way to do it.
The dangerous thing with thrawn is that with his calm voice and almost sympathic and friendly behaviour you whould most likely trust and follow him. That is the stuff real monsters and dictators are made off. Friendly on the outside but whould kill you without even considering it a millisecond. Gives me chills
thrawn is literally sympathetic and friendly though if you work under him and don't fail and even if you do fail, he won't give you the vader treatment if you don't make excuses. Lets see how this series will depict him and I hope its not the cliche charismatic dictator bullshit which his character is not, he's just well spoken with a strategic mind
Yeah thrawn is not truly Evil like in the books he is just a man trying to help his people and willing to work with palpatine in order ti save then and the galaxy from a greater threat but because he is calculating he can come off cold but you see his kindness with Eli canto and his subordinates and how he cares for them in the way of not putting them in unnecessary Danges
Sometimes you forget how big a Star Destroyer really is until it’s parked right on top of you. I’m actually surprised it’s still in one piece and the entire crew is still alive, though then again they are being aided by Dathamir Nightsisters.
@@Filbithat's what I was thinking, especially for Enoch, might've just been the angles but the eyes on his helmet didn't look like lenses. Course he could also be a droid or something
The fact that the voice actor actually acted him live action is incredible, as well as his many other roles such as Charles Magnussen and his mastery in the Witcher
Thrawn needs a huge W against the new republic. He’s been gone a decade so he needs a win under his belt just for anyone who hasn’t seen Rebels to see what a threat he is
He wasnt a Threat in Rebels....Rebels is s show for kids, and the "bad guys" arent allowed to win in kiddy shows. So of course all his plans failed or he "let them win".
"Widely regarded as a great commander in the real world"? Are you autistic? He is a fictional character, from a kiddy show. Where he had zero victories.@@ATwistedKindofParadise
"Rebels" wasnt dark. It also castrated Thrawn. I have read the ORIGINAL Thrawn novels by Zahn. There Thrawn was unstoppable in combat. In "Rebels" he was a buffoon.@@____Carnage____
Ahsoka would definitely end with a cliffhanger, which gonna directly lead to the Filloni-Fraveau Star Wars solo movie. Thrawn will be around just a lil longer.
I like how dirty and patched up the Storm Troopers looked as expected of a group stranded in the middle of nowhere, but yet they still look discipline and threatening speaks volume of Thrawn's charisma to keep them in line.
The most fanatical imperial forces we have ever seen. The troopers serving the warlords stay for the money, these ones stayed to survive. Probably the most loyal and battle hardened force the star wars galaxy will see since the clones
His star destroyer is awesome love the tattoo on the bottom... looks like thrawns been eating well... He is considerably older now I love when he concentrates his eyes get brighter
1:04 - The moment you see him, you know Thrawn is dangerous. One of the most dangerous people to ever serve the Emperor. And one of the coolest. It’s a good time to be a fan of all things Imperial. I will be cheering the grand admiral on throughout the series.
It's a great time for Thrawn fans in general. I've waited so long to see him in live action and never thought I'd see this day when he was decanonized. So happy they recanonized the character.
@@MaxMustermann-lb7sn That's why Thrawn goes to Myrkr and picks up a load of Ysalamiri. They dampen the Force so that it puts him on an even playing field with Force users. Now that he's back in the galaxy proper, he will likely do that to prevent another Ezra situation from happening.
Thrawn is more than just a villain. He's very nuanced in the Thrawn Trilogy. He's willing to kill but only when necessary. He doesn't suffer fools but tries to teach junior officers how to think and analyze a situation and does all he can to get to know his enemy or potential enemy before formulating a strategy. He's not omniscient and he's willing to admit when he's made a mistake and he's willing to learn from it. He's the embodiment of "soft power".
As I recall from Survivor's Quest, Mara Jade Skywalker mentioned that out of all the individual she had met within the Imperial hierarchy, Thrawn was the most noble. Had he been in charge... The Empire of the Hand was more of a confederation than an Empire, but it had all the strengths and none of the evil of the Empire. In my opinion, if Mon Mothma and Leia had known about the Empire of the Hand, they should have taken pointers from it. It would have allowed them to get rid of the corruption that was slowly spreading through the New Republic leadership, putting the New Republic in a better position when the Yuuzhan Vong arrived.
I love the fact that it seems they all just kinda decided to stop cleaning their armour at some point, looks gnarly which is the point though especially the 'Kintsugi' styled repairs they've made to their armor and even the ship to some degree. Awesome look
I like how I was expecting him to pull up on a small ship, or show up on the eye, but pulls up with his salvage Star destroyer with a creepy post apocalyptic looking stormtrooper militia and controls the Witches. Like- TF OKAY Thrawn! He’s a resourceful survivor
The chimaera was absolutely chilling, the damaged and hastily repaired hull, the three main thrusters ahutoff, the creaking of its structure. It almost feels like watching a reanimated corpse.
@@cameronearls6497in the end of episode, he told morgan that he wanted to know all of ashoka’s history, “HER MASTER”, her homeworld everything, which makes disney forgetting that in thrawn novels, it showed that thrawn knew about anakin being vader which makes no sense.
@@NorthWirld how is it ignoring the thrawn novels? In the novels did he know that Ahsoka was Anakin's apprentice? If he didn't know that info in the novels, and his only knowledge of Anakin is that he and Padme were together and that Anakin became Vader, then it's perfectly consistent.
Man thrawns one mangled star destroyer and his small battered army looks hella more intimidating that the final order ever was. That’s how you know the final order was so bad
Thrawn: So what's up with the war. I'm suppose we are close to winning the war. Emperor is probably letting the Senate knows the Rebels is in there final hours. Dark Jedi: Actually, about that..........
The crazy thing is that the dedication of Thrawn’s crew in the entire fleet was so true, it was questioned if they were loyal to the Empire or to Thrawn.
0:29 I see Thrawn has spread his knack for artistry amongst his surviving forces (Probably for a multitude of reasons: To help keep their gear in decent-ish condition, to help keep everyone sane and busy, to try and expand their minds past the Drone-like mentality you often see in Imperial rank and file troops, etc..). His forces look like a Sci-Fi Terracotta Army: Worn down in the face of time, but surprisingly well preserved nonetheless, and each Soldier is unique in appearance when you look at them closely. The cracked armor and red fabrics that adorn them make them look like tragically beautiful statues.
I think the broken armors has the same meaning as Kylo Ren’s mask, and get the inspiration from Japanese ceramics process of reform. The night trooper perhaps went through many horrific wars, and their broken armors showed they have been reformed and become stronger.
The red decor of their armor symbolizes their ties to the Nightsisters. Hence their name, Nighttroopers... When Enoch commands them in the beginning, he does so in the language of that planet. They have adapted well to the conditions. Not without help from Dathomiri witches ❤
One of the things I'm seeing is that when confronted with new information you can see brief pauses, contemplating the new info, its implications and reformulating his next move. I think it is a great little detail from the actor. When he knows of the prisoner, of the name of the fallen jedi, and finally the name of the prisoner as well you can see how he immediately ponders this new information. A great subtle thing to let us know that this man is very calculating, always thinking and always on top of things strategically
Thrawn has proved to be an adept leader who commands the respect of his fleet. I can't wait to see how he leads the Empire to glory! Thrawn in the flesh with his theme music making a grand entrance that was bone chilling, menacing & frightening. The stormtroopers chanting his name with pride shows their loyalty and allegiance to him. Thrawn's calm voice exudes calm strength. I can't wait to see how he outsmarts his opponents by his wits. "Everything Leading Up To This Moment Has Been Rehearsal. The Real Performance Is About To Begin." - Grand Admiral Thrawn.
i would say barelly able to fly. most of the engines were out and I'm sure like 30% of interior space is uninhabitable while in space due to hull breaches.
@@pastlife960 nah. it is flying using those 4 smaller engines. but it is definitely not hyperdrive capable... but then again. that massive hyperdrive ring is probably build to link with this ship.
I see Thrawn has been watching Dune while in exile. SO freaking classy, but damn those stormtroppers look good and terrifying, like a revenant army from the ancient past out to kill. And that Enoch... his face place my god that's a strong contender for best Star Wars Helmet
Lars Mikkelsen's voice in the animated was just great, seeing him in person is just so wonderful especially I love both him and Mads Mikkelsen. Otherwise, no one else could be Thrawn except him.
Seems Thrawn has himself some Rubric marines. the sashes and makeshift changes to the armor keeping it sealed makes them look more like walking Urns, a final statement for their sacrifice, forever serving the empire.
I like how the troopers treat Thrawn like a legend and chant his name in his honor because under his command they've all been kept alive for 10 years in the middle of nowhere
This was utterly fantastic, watching rebels and reading Thrawn 2017 (halfway through alliances now with all 6 canon books in my possession) has been utterly rewarding.
His performance is SO GOOD! The way he's kind of smirking. The way he addresses people. The hint of danger in his looks. That little pause he did at 1:34 was so full of implication, but you have no idea what kind!
Even the smirk is calculated. Notice when Thrawn smirks, it's only a half smirk where one side of his face reacts. That kind of asymmetry is unsettling to most people. He's likely doing it as a psychological tactic.
That fact that he is voiced by the same guy from his appearance in rebels, I don't care if some people say he looks a bit like elon musk, the voice actor is irreplaceable.
I love this scene so much, i want Grand Admiral to win this ashoka season, he deserve this also the new character captain Enoch is ground breaking the way he walks and talk absolutely amazing
I mean it looks pretty good considering the Star Whales damaged it and they've been in exile for 10 years. The fact that it still works at all is a testament to Thrawn's leadership and he skill of his crew.
The music and cinematography of this episode was just outstanding. Whomever they got to direct this episode, PLEASE bring them back for every series going forward
@@chriswhite3692 well so far., allegedly there is going go be a crossover movie. Although I am partial to the tv format ( mostly cause I dont have to find a baby sitter) Well see but I feel like Ahsoka is giving starwars a much needed win
I thought the same thing To be honest all of the Star Wars series from mando to this are better than the last 3 sequels. Always wanted to see thrawn on the screen after reading the novels etc, d plageus still remains elusive on screen. Considering he trained palpatine and he’s potentially immortal, he wouldn’t be hard to insert into any of the movies or series But then again as regards the movies they created and killed d maul straight away, and other great character and kept silly ones like rey, Finn, etc ignored chewbacca, again created a good character in k ren then portrayed it all wrong imo, created the knights of ren, then didn’t really feature them in any way ., Total shite for me. But I’ve enjoyed all the series
So nice to finally see Lars getting some more well deserved International screen time, so its not just little brother Mads Mikkelsen who gains international succes🙂Also very cool that he was the voice actor in the animated series and now in live action, so well deserved❤🇩🇰🇩🇰
Morgana, through the Nightmothers, has been filling Thrawn in on everything that has happened between now and the end of ROTJ, meaning he has had 10 years to prepare and come up with strategies and battle plans for uniting the Imperial Remnant and overthrowing the New Republic. New Republic is COOKED.
Love how the perspective of the scene when thrawn walks through the army, it looks like they are the same size, and then after it shows that Lars Mikkelsen is like 6’3ft
