This 9 day backpacking adventure took place from March 6-15, 2022. We embarked on an approximately 90 backpacking trip that included the Escalante Route, a section of the Tonto West Trail and a climb up the Boucher Trail. What an amazing adventure.

I'm fairly certain we camped at Indian Gardens the same night you were there on this trip. The date range you're specifying is when we were in the area. We ended up making some itinerary changes because of the weather but still managed to get that night in, along with a side trip out as far as we could make on the Tonto. We're headed back in a few weeks for a Hermit/Tonto/Boucher loop, which is how I found your video in search. Thanks for sharing and giving us an idea of what to expect on some of these trails!

Which is the best season for hiking into the grand canyon? Should one be thin and fit?

I've only been down there twice now and from my limited experience I would have to say early March is one of the better times. The temperature isn't totally out of hand hot yet and the water sources seem a bit better (mostly the pot hole water). With that being said I'm not giving you a recommendation as I would encourage you to do your research and find what works for you. I have no experience in the fall so I don't know the conditions during that time. I would highly recommend you be in some pretty good shape though. The climb down was rough with a full pack and the climb back out is even harder so don't take it lightly. Hope that helps and Happy Trails!!!
