I'm sorry but your night looked really uncomfortable. Just switching out the foam pad for a UberLite small (6 oz.) would have changed your life that night. Strapped to the outside?
@@jfruitt65 I tried my best to do this trip without the “dangles”, but yeah, I could put a quilt in a dry bag and hang that, then put the pad on the outside dangling and add more calories But then you could argue that the fanny pack isn’t my only “pack” 😅 Technically I could do 0 packs and just have dry sacks attached to a belt 😂
I love the hip pack hike/camp plan! With just a few upgrades, pad, breathable SOL bivy, nuts(real food), pillow somehow and a bigger hip pack with an actual water bottle holder and I think it could be bordering on cozy. . . .maybe a base layer bottoms for sleeping warm. I think I could do it with nothing and it would be HORRIBLE!
Always enjoy seeing your adventures dude. Thanks for bringing us along and sharing the ups and downs. Impressive how much you could actually fit in that red paw pack!
This video was oddly satisfying and surprisingly well made considering your bare bones setup. Just when I thought the quest to lower one’s base weight was a race to the bottom, you took things to new depths. Now let’s see you do this with one of those little Patagonia nylon fanny packs.
Bahaha I used to have one of those fanny packs! Those things are incredibly tiny 😅 appreciate your support friend! Happy to see you Schiro! Miss ya on the ‘gram
Total legend! When you told me about this idea shortly after I met you so many years ago I only knew to laugh. Thanks for always inspiring me to figure out how to go lighter so that I can go farther more comfortably and have experiences I might not otherwise have!
@@michaelgelfeld4906 oh I’m so down to do horse thief, I’ve been so curious about that route after going down Nanko. Any more trips planned for you this year or is it on hold til spring?
@@MeowHikes soooo I bought a packraft haha so I'm going to do soap to rider in December just to test out the setup. More of a shakedown trip than anything. Really interested in looping horse thief by using the river though, come springtime
Seriously! I’ve had times where the weather says it’s clear and it ends up being windy and rainy at the bottom. The mice down there are a different breed, super sneaky and have tons of hiding spots. It was a good time though!
Think that's an irresponsible af dare. And you should know that, considering how close you came on water then food. Having someone picking you up at predesignated and with one night out, fine, but thats honestly as far as that experiment should be pushed far as I'm concerned. There's traveling light then traveling irresponsibly. But glad you had a good hike and that it worked out well. Great footage and narrative just maybe think of a better angle than encouraging folks to be irresponsible. You don't need that extra water til you really do.
I don’t find what I did irresponsible, given my experience hiking and my experience in the Grand Canyon. You’re welcome to disagree, without any knowledge of my experience of either. For anyone watching who found my cheeky comment at the end about “tell me in the comments you could do better” serious in any way, I’m not actually saying to go and do this, or go do better. Thank you for your concern, and thanks for watching
@@MeowHikes as I said, you went as far as it should be pushed well done. Cheeky dare or not it's dangerous to encourage folks to attempt to do the same. Or assume everyone seeing your video has watched your other content and is totally familiar with your experience and sense of humor or whatever. And "hey, that's a cool RU-vid idea, I bet I can do better" and get into trouble. But if you're comfortable with that, cool.
