Grand Design Imagine 2970RL - tour / 2 year update / plus something you can never unsee! 

In this video we show a tour of our 2019 Grand Design Imagine 2970 RL. This is our 1st travel trailer. We love the floorplan of this camper. I would consider it more of a "destination" RV since you have to extend both slides to access the fridge and panty. Although it is considered to be half-ton towable, you will be much better off with a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. This floorplan has freestanding table and chairs, but we downgraded that option since we wanted the booth. The cost savings from that made getting the 2nd air conditioner nearly a wash. The camper has an electric fire place, which is perfect for our winter camping trips here in Ohio. We have had a few minor issues with the camper, but Grand Design has been great to work with and we really appreciate their customer service! I recently upgraded the suspension to the Morryde CRE3000 equalizers and the heavy duty shackle and wetbolt kit. This has made a big difference in towing and the ride is much smoother. We also upgraded to Goodyear Endurance tires!

Lol! Very nice rig and puppies too! No big deal on the fridge access. We just took a quick one week trip 940 miles each way to see family. We broke it out into 2 days of travel each day and made do with a cooler. It was fine. We were in the road about 7 hours each day with stops so we couldn’t have stocked the fridge anyway unless we ran the propane while on the road which is too dangerous. We just stocked up on a few cold items once we got to our destination. No big deal at all. Really enjoyed the video!

Owner of a 2022 GD XLS 22mle. I have had two previous camper’s and have alway used a Rear camera and works as the rear viewing mirror. And as for the A/C drip. Either you tweak your leveling/ stabilizers or place a hose on it to direct the water. Thanks for the vid.

I know my 31rd is back there but it’s easily half ton towable a lifted ram 1500 towed it. I just had to watch weights because trailer could have been over max for the ram but now it’s just under maxed out my 21 Titan No issues what so ever short tripped with no WD hitch and long tripped with WD hitch But I’m also not the dipshit doing 75-85mph slinging my 37ft trailer down the interstate like 90% of drivers are. I think a lot of people try to justify a diesel when they just don’t know how to drive or incompetent in following distance and load management. It’s funny to see how many don’t have WD hitch done right or to much weight on hitch. My ram and Titan got 7.5-12 mpgs towing campers been to west texas Utah Maine outer banks Florida Nashville and Wisconsin no issues mountains gave no issues I could get off on ramps doing 70mph just as easy and breaks hold just higher number on the controller than most ram needed 9 my Titan is 8 to hold still. I strongly recommend a weigh safe set up or trailer hitch weight scale to know ur loads and once ur set go cat scale it. Completely loaded up ur dogs wife kids chairs grills everything and keep same set ups. I’ve hitch weighted a lot from my utv and boat trailer to this travel trailer. Load management and 55 to 65 is the safest speeds My only what the hell moments where tunnels and I40 gorge no shoulder in construction zone with a 18wheeler beside me I think less than 3 feet in both directions was my give or take and a few times it looked like our trailers where less than 12 inches apart

It seems all trailers guess do that over the pass thru doors. 😊 i was just telling my camping buddy they need to change that design.

We really like the layout of your 2970 RL :) We lived full-time in our travel trailer for about two years until we decided to upgrade to a Grand Design Solitude S- Class 2930 RL fifth wheel. We absolutely love Grand design and how great quality of products they make! So awesome to see both of you out in the road living life to the fullest her RV living! We actually found you guys through AlliChuck Adventures just now. They are great people and they said you guys are pretty great too 😃You guys seem like great people! My wife and I have been full-time RV living for four years now as travel nurses. We also just recently start an RV channel!! Love the Imagine trailers; along with the White Hawks, Eagles and Rockwoods, and I tell people to go and check them out. I had planned on getting one for us but made the mistake of showing the wife the Reflection 297rsts and the game was over, she wouldn`t even look at anything else. Well she was right again although I cringed at the price, it is one heck of a camper.

I just bought one 2970 rl same length and they do have sliding bypass doors on the bath and bedroom. the stairs are upgraded everything else looks the same. I will definitely check the slide rubbing. But it sounds like grand design is listing to there customers. that is good to know.

Good review. Three questions: 1) Is the rear bumper solid enough to attach an aftermarket 2" bolt-on receiver hitch? On our current camper we had to add a frame welded hitch to be sure our bike rack didn't torque the bumper off. 2) On the drivers side pass through there are hookups for the city water, spray hose and cable / satellite. Does that door have to remain open, or at least cracked for the hoses and/or wires to run to the outside? I don't see any other way. I think that would be an issue with the A/C dripping down that side, or in a rain storm. (or bugs getting in). 3) I have to sleep with a CPAP machine that needs to be within about 12-18" from my pillow due to the hose length. With the side wardrobes extending all the way down to the nightstand area, it doesn't look like it's possible to fit a CPAP where it needs to be. Is that correct? Thanks!

I'm thinking of buying this exact model. I'm curious to know thoughts of anyone else who have towed this with a half ton pickup. I have a Ram 1500 with the 392 gears, V8 hemi. I have E rated tires, airbags and upgraded 5100 series Bilstein shocks. Payload 1550 lbs and Max tow weight 10,160 lbs. I'm hoping my truck will tow it ok. Thoughts? Advice?
