I'm so proud of Ally. The best player with my main and favorite character is the 2nd person to take down the king of Sm4sh. Awesome play by both players.

Great Match, Congrats to Ally in winning in his home town. Canadian crowd went wild. Announcers were not neutral, that really affects a player; specially when also, the rest of the whole crowd is against a single player. I have nothing but UTTER RESPECT for Zero on how his reactions were in every game he played, while dealing with the anti-crowd and anti-commentators. Great game ya'll, Ally, was great to see Mario in action!
The crowd wasn't anti-ZeRo, they just really wanted Ally to win(ZeRo is a player of legend, and Having Ally defeat him is a big accomplishment for them). The commentators didn't sound anti-ZeRo, they just really were in awe about Ally doing so well against ZeRo, the best in the world. Both players did well, but I don't think anyone was against ZeRo lol.
True, I stand corrected. Nevertheless it was a grand match. Ally won fair and square, upholded Canada which was like a mini movie we all saw. In spite of all of this; Zero took it quite maturely and is always a sport.

And Mario's still barely top 15, right, Ally? In all honesty, though, props to BOTH players here. Ally's Mario is really something else, and ZeRo did really well there considering he's been out of the scene for quite a while.
Watching this again after seeing ZeRo win big house again is really quite a treat it's amazing how much his combos have improved and his monkey flips have gotten a lot less predictable
For those who are or plan on saying things about the commentators and the fans being one sided... you cant really blame them. Sure, i love both players, both of them are absolutely incredible, but after seeing the same person win tournaments time and time again over and over.. it doesn't get as exciting and hype anymore, no matter how close the matches are or not, not trying to dis any player, both are great, but it was just a breath of fresh air for SOMEONE ELSE to finally win instead of ZeRo. That's why most people cheer for the other person when its a match including ZeRo, because it's either "Ah, ZeRo won! That's nice" or "HOLY SHIT ZERO LOST AND (player name here) WON OMG WHATHEFHNK" No one is hating on anybody, it's just some people are hoping for a different, more exciting outcome, that's all!
We're not here to see who wins and loses, we're here to see some good play. While I did want ZeRo to win, I don't care that much since the matches were amazing

It's like ZeRo is the final boss of a really difficult video game, it's just hype af when someone beats him. If anything it should be a compliment to how amazing he is as a player
That last stock was crazy. ZeRo knew Ally was gonna do a turn around Up Smash, so he ran up and spot dodged, but Ally knew that ZeRo knew, so he delayed his up smash a second after turning around and closes out the stock. The amount of mind games goin on between these 2 was nice to watch!!

Thank Sakurai, your hermaphrodite lord, for making him one of the best in the game. It's ironic how Sakurai disliked melee for its true combo potential, yet mario, a classic character in smash, was made with the best true combo potential (aside from broken bayonetta before the nerf). Job well done Sakurai. You trully know how to make a game unlike others who try to steer you in the right direction
Stop hating on mario players. And plus, mario is like the father of nintendo, so it makes sense that he should be one of the better characters. And it's not easy playing mario at the level Ally does.
I think people don't realize that ZeRo was the underdog in this tournament. he hasn't played in a tournament for 2 months, and yet he still nearly got first. Not downgrading Ally, but ZeRo had a severe disadvantage coming in to this tournament, so the fact he did so well shows how skilled he is as a player.
+Smashtwig67 He hasn't been able to play for around 2 months due to an injury, while Ally had been practicing during those 2 months. The fact he even made it to second place shocks me, as I thought he would do terrible.
I think everybody knows how skilled zero already is lmao. If you think an injury like that would stop a player like zero making it far then you are horribly mistaken. Especially when you see him pulling off that clean 3-0 on nairo.
Uh, this is an Canada you know. Odds are that the Canadians were gonna pull for the Canadian smasher. Zero knew what he was going to face, and he faced it like a man and played his heart out.
It's always more or less like that for him. But it's nothing personal, I think. His winning streak is so brutal, beating him means making history. I like the dude a lot, but having him win another tournament would be pretty... anticlimatic. I think Zero's aware of this, though, and he's always been a good sport about it.
The best way to interpret what happened here is IMO that, yes, Zero showed he still got it, but equally, Ally finally beat Zero and repped Canada. #stopthejohns
Zero didn’t deserve any of the hate he got. Who cares he got second? That doesn’t make him washed. It was a stacked tournament and he still did amazing.
Having the crowd cheer for Ally is expected, but what I don't like is hearing my 2 commentators ONLY rooting for Ally and basically commentating around his gameplay the entire time. ZeRo isn't on his winning streak anymore, so why not have a bit more of an unbiased approach to commentating. All I basically heard was "Oh no Ally!!!...... Nice Ally!..... I hope Ally wins........." etc. etc.

Is this really the first time Ally beat Zero in a game? If it is, wow! His first time beating zero in a game, and he goes even further to take the whole set. Ally has changed a lot.
Are we not going to acknowledge how long ZeRo was out of the game? props to Ally but we all knew ZeRo wasn't going to be his best at his first major back. like who expected him to get first this tournament? the fact that he did so well is a testament to his skill and I'm really looking forward to his these two's next encounter
I root Zero but even still what a set. Alley delivered on home soil. This match and the inclusion of MK Leo made this yrs GOML gold. As a stout Zero fan I have to shout out to Zero and say he should not fret about the loss. He was defeated with his pride in tow. awesome game play by both player plus the well delivered commentary made watching this stream really enjoyable. Can't wait for a possible rematch next yr between these two.
Defeating ZeRo is like going Super Saiyan.When someone does it for the first time, it's hype as fuck and it's a huge accomplishment- but soon, other people start doing it, and it's not really special anymore.
Props to both. When i heard about the diddy nerf i didnt think it was that bad. And zeros been oit of the scene for a while, and he stopped using diddy as much before. All things considered he did well, but Ally really clutched this out. Great performances
Wow people bigged this up way more than it needed to be. I'd hardly say ZeRo got wrecked. He was definitely outplayed and kudos to Ally for winning, but people hyped way too much. ZeRo did just come back after an injury and it's not exactly encouraging hearing everyone behind you rooting for your opponent and not you. I'm not just john-ing on ZeRo's behalf, but let's wait for Ally to consistently beat ZeRo before reacting like the sky is falling down.
ally really is coming into his own as a smash 4 top 5 player. he won doubles and brawl singles as well he played excellent he beat several people this tournament. and did really good yeah zero wasn't at his best. but even beating an injured zero isn't an easy feat. so good job to both ally and zero great tournament hyped for sure
Without pre-nerfed Sheik to crutch with, we'll see less tourney wins from ZERO. Worry not however, I'm sure his unique fashion sense will never surrender. Such iconic looks as the scarf with neck beard combo. I do hope he's patented.
I feel like Zero is super good because he never cracks under pressure, but because the crowd is usually against him, he never really gains anything from them, so he almost always plays to a certain standard. Ally doesn't crack under pressure either, but the crowd is more often with him than it isn't, because of his wild read/react style. His style is more risky though, so he relies on a strong psychological game to win. I honestly think the crowd gave him the mental morale boost he needed to win.
All you salty Johns getting butthurt over Zero losing, but can we take a moment and talk about how hype the entire match was? I dont know either of these men well enough to "pull" for one over the other, but i will say they both played like gods. The fans wanted a hype battle, but Zero and Ally gave us so much more than that, and i think many of us are forgetting that. ~Its not the destination, but the journey which was made.
It seems like the commentary was in favor of Ally winning, just like the crowd. It's fine to have a favorite, but it's a little annoying to have the commentator(s) clearly pulling for Ally to win. Just call the game, don't fawn and cheer for one player the whole time.
Ally deserved the win, and I really respect him as a player, but I actually was rooting for ZeRo. I would love it if he continued his insane tournament record.

i feel like if ZeRo would've played Shulk he would've been fine. He could've outspaced Mario and had better chances killing as opposed to his normal Diddy and Shiek who lack a lot of kill power, and he knows Shulk enough to play him well in tournament and he also is ZeRo so he has his knowledge and skill no matter what character he is
ZeRo who was just recently defeated by Mew2King, who has never been considered a God. Suffice to say the standard's been lowered, and it's safe to say that Ally is indeed a God.

Santriez Taylor hmm i think the playstyle Zero played pre patch sheik was OP. She had the best projectile and one of the best camp games in the whole cast. Legit camping won MUs. She also could get you to 100% in less than 10 seconds. She has one of the best recovery. She had a f-air with a disjointed hitbox which made it extremely safe on shield or safe in general. She had a 50/50 which killed at 100-160%. She has one of the best frame data. And she had multiple true kill combos and kill options. Yea......pre-patch sheik was TOTALLY not OP
The crowd siding with the underdog is to be expected, especially when the underdog is defending his own turf. I was there, and it seemed like almost all of the crowd wanted to see Ally win. The commentators though, that's a different story. I'm guessing they just got a bit excited in the moment and didn't realize they were being biased towards Ally
