I used to go on the Grand Pier in the 70's very fond memories.

Old one full of character, owned by the person who insured it and wanted to re develop it.... now just an industrial unit out a at sea. I refuse to pay to go on this one. Every one knows what happened here and km should be brought to book for it

A fire of this scale should never have happened. The fire alarm went off at 01:35 but the fire brigade were called by a member of the public at around 07:00. All it took was for the security company to call the emergency services after the fire alarm went off and the pier would still be here today. Thank you so much for the photos, shame that the fire of this scale was avoidable and how the new 'Grand Pier' has become very commercialised (entry fees etc..). Gone but never forgotten. I love the peir back then with the balloons at the back their never coming back neither will the climbing walls which was 2 weeks old before the fire took over on the 28th July 2008

The original rides where The Big wheel, Castle of Doom (Ghost train) and The Crazy House.

At 2:16, the ghost train has a lion peeking through the wall.

I guess it changed for the better..... I’ve never been to the new one. The old one burned down when I was 3 :p I only went there like 4 times so I don’t remember.

The pier burn down due to "an electrical fire" (Hmmmm!) and was then rebuilt .... Lucky they were insured, right!
