Great video! It's always nice to have someone explain the little things, like scratching the finish, awkwardness, and such. I'm kind of a car guy. But, it's always nice to watch someone first. Thanks, and I hope you continue to make more detailed videos like this one. Good job! 👍

Thank you very much for this. I wanted to replace my rear speakers and started by removing the 4 bolts behind the the foldable seats thinking that was all I needed to do. Boy was I wrong lol. I'm not a "car guy" and often look to videos on youtube for help with this kind of thing. This is one of the best videos I've watched, and with your help I was able to replace the speakers and put everything back together!

Why doesn't somebody show how to remove the seat from a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville these grandpre's and all these other Pontiacs are all fine and dandy but a Bonneville is a whole different monster somebody needs to make a video on the how to remove the backrest to the 2003 Pontiac Bonneville SLE

I get ya. It's getting harder and harder to find videos on some of these cars. If I had access to an older Bonneville, I would have made the video for you. Hope you find the information you need

Nicely detailed video. Much clearer than the previous one. It seems my 04 back cushion handles are stuck. I've attempted penetrating fluid but it is pretty random getting it in there. Any advice on how to unstick the mechanism? Is there a way past those handles?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 5 лет назад
Damn, that is a tough one. The only way past it is at the side of the seat, with a really long tool, like a flat head screwdriver or like what I used, which looks like a long surgical thin pliers. But you will be going in blind. I did it once, and after messing around for about 15 mins, was able to release it. The jam frequently, and often, the best bet is to pull on the handle while wiggling the seat up and down, left to right, until it unlatched. That has worked surprisingly well for me. If needed, get someone to pull the handle, while someone else goes from the other side of the car, leans in, and wiggles the seat cushion. As I write this, I just thought of another possibility. If one side is jammed, try releasing the latch on the other side, and see if you can push up the cushion enough to get a visual on the stuck latch. Never thought of it when I was stuck, but it may work. Hope that helps in some way. Other than that, thanks for the great feedback and comments. Appreciate it!
@christopherlove4188
@christopherlove4188 5 лет назад
Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it. I'm going to try the wiggling of the seat by someone else. I might try going in from the side also. Both latches are jammed unfortunately. I tried a thread unlock solution, spraying in blindly but roughly where I felt the latch and it loosened up a bit but not enough to unlock. I can hear it partially unlock. I will report back when / if I get it undone. I am motivated because I want to modify the stereo and speakers.

I'm having an issue getting the right rear passenger T handle to unlatch is there any possible way to get it off still I have the other one off but this one won't budge

I once had my t handle jam too. I had to go from the side of the seat with a flat head screw driver while pulling up as much as I could without tearing the foam. I was able to pop it open that way .It took a while and some patience

Others have had issues with those t-handles. They jam often...even has happened to me. I posted this to someone a while ago and it seems to work for a few people. "The only way past it is at the side of the seat, with a really long tool, like a flat head screwdriver or like what I used, which looks like a long surgical thin pliers. How do u pull them down to get to the back
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 4 года назад
Sorry, I want to clarify. What do you mean pull them down? As in, to just fold down the rear seats? Or remove then entirely?
@IsaacH69
@IsaacH69 2 года назад
This should be the same process on a 05 bonneville gxp right ?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 2 года назад
It is not entirely the same. The process is generally the same (remove the bottom cushion, then the top), but the release for the seats and how to remove the rear seat bolts is different, if I recall

It was a fairly good video however it did not show how to remove the side leather pads that run up beside the fold down seats. I need to remove the wiring from the trunk area and those side pads are in the way . Any ideas?

@@arnoldschmidt2753 absolutely. It actually comes out with that whole backseat assembly. It's all one piece...those side pads are attached to the frame at the top that you have to unbolt

I have a 97 SE standard bench back seat no armrest or anything, but i found one in a 99 with an armrest may even fold down. Looking from my trunk the passthru looks like it's just bolted over so is it possible to add the folding seat or at least a seat with an armrest to my car I know both versions were originally offered.
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 3 года назад
I have not worked on that generation in a while ( I had a 97 SE with a 3800 back in the day). But if I remember correctly, the 99 should fit no problem, as far as bolting up. I think it has been pretty much the same bolt set up through to 08, if I recall. I know people have been able to put 04+ seats in your generation, so I don't see why the 99 won't work. I am 99.999% sure it will

the lock on one side of the seat doesn’t want to lift up in mine. Maybe it’s caught on something?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 4 года назад
Yeah they jam sometimes. They are plastic, and sometimes get caught on the mechanism or even the surrounding carpet. You can go in with a needle nose pliers and try to work it around, but you do run the risk of breaking them.

What do you recommend as a direct replacement for the GXP's Monsoon 6x9's back there?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 5 лет назад
Any 6x9 would drop in, but with the Monsoon system, you may need to either bypass or upgrade the factory amp. Many 6x9s won't work with the factory amp due to the way it outputs. Some speakers have worked by chance, but that is risky, since there is no official 'ok' list. I have Clarion 6x9s in mine, but I have the factory system, so they just dropped in and no amp upgrade was required.

I was searching for a while, and got lucky when someone with an 2006 was selling them off. THey are hard to find, and get harder all the time. It took almost a year of searching before I came across these ones.

Well. Me and a friend tried for 2 hours to get the bottom of the back seat out and it would not go. I ended up shampooing it in the car.
@NexusAuto

Got to do what you go to do. That does suck though. It is tough to get to, but once you get the sort-of 'trick' to it, you won't have too much problems again. The first time trying to take out the cushions is the hardest for sure, I know from experience. Give it a try another time...maybe you'll get some better luck
