All Grand Seiko Spring Drive timepieces are designed, made, assembled and adjusted by the skilled craftsmen and women of the Shinshu Watch Studio, which is located in central Japan and surrounded by the Hotaka mountain range whose tallest summit is 3,190 metres high. As the Hotaka mountain range was created by volcanic activity, its peaks and slopes have sharp ridges and sheer cliffs which, even when carved by the wind and snow over the millennia, reveal nature at its most dramatic. This watch’s dial has the color and texture that typify the geology of the Hotaka range.
Thanks to Grand Seiko’s unique Spring Drive caliber, the seconds hand glides silently and smoothly, with no ‘tick’, across the dial, perfectly reflecting the natural and continuous flow of time. The power reserve is 72 hours when fully wound and is shown on the discreet indicator next to the eight o’clock marker. The GMT hand allows a second time zone to be shown and the hour can be adjusted without compromising the one-second-a-day precision of Spring Drive.

@@ClickSpringReviewit’s great - it runs about 5 seconds fast a month. Setting the hour hand isn’t too “squishy” like some other GMTs I tried on my hunt. Something that really surprised me is how quickly it charges up just from regular wear, and how few winds it takes to fully wind it. I have a 19cm wrist and it fits great, I feel the weight, but with the crown placement and curvature from the caseback it wears similar to a g shock full metal square. Definitely never selling this watch. :)

@@ClickSpringReviewforgot to mention perhaps one of my favorite things about it, the indices have this prismatic effect to them under certain light - they give off a rainbow refraction. Very, very cool.

GS are one of the few true watch manufacturers. They even make their own in-house balance springs. But boy, do they need to sort out their case sizes and bracelets. It's strange because their primary market has mostly been Asia. So, case size should traditionally be smaller. And prices, well. 🤞

Completely agree regarding the size I can't see these selling to will , which is a shame but sometimes less is more.

The Grand Seiko SBGE277 is an awesome watch. This review did an amazing job pointing out the subtle details like the texture of the dial and the bracelet adjustments. I was going to go to my AD to buy one until I realized the case diameter is 44MM! If Grand Seiko can pare the size down to 40MM I will go buy one. I hope the GS marketing team is reading this review.

Thank you Danny , its a shame its just so big, if it was 41mm or under they would sell so many more I believe

The new 103 is just like a 103C from 20 years ago except with new innards. Manual wind for 58+ hours of power reserve. No pulling crown to wind and still 20 bar waterproof. And every time you pick it up to wind you going to find some neat detail to enjoy it more. I have a feeling Ryan's first one is going to be yours 👍.

Few things would drive me bonkers for a watch at this price. The non colour matched date wheel and the bezel colours not splitting the 18 & 6 down the middle.

Thats a good point about the bezel Jack 👍🏻

Woo hoo Barry with a GS, you are allowed back into Seiko world. You know I was offered this watch with a good discount right around American Thanksgiving holiday but I passed, saving for a Frankfort visit to Sinn. Didn't get the EZM 3F (back ordered for a long time) but got the new hand wound 103. Would love to see you review it when Ryan gets one in but it's so Un-Sinn (it's not auto, it's not tegimented, it's not sapphire, it got applied indices and dome glass, and it's just old school) but love it. I also like the u50 hydro but I'm happier with my u50s. Anyhow thanks for a good seiko review and I too like this seiko but didn't love it. Edit : my bad I was offered this watch but under Seiko banner, not GS.

Beautiful piece. Love GS, but I find they scratch so easily and are more noticeable due to the zaratsu finishing. Guess I'm too accustomed to tegimented finishing now. ps thoughts on the U50 Hydro?

I am very excited with the Sinn U50 Hydro release. Can you do a comparison of UX and U50 Hydro? I am struggling between two
@ClickSpringReview
@ClickSpringReview 6 месяцев назад
I will as soon as I get the catch Sir, but one thing I would say is the UX has a much better movement than the U50 being it has Thermal Compensation and its COSC rated
