My family moved to the Bronx from Harlem in 1975. We actually lived in the house next door to D.J. KOOL HERC building on Sedgwick Avenue at 1526. I recently heard that our house was torn down but it can be seen in the movie about Hip Hop called, "THE GET DOWN". Back then we would attend Herc's parties at 1520 and at the parties in the various parks in the Bronx. I left the Bronx in 1980 but I have been back and I am proud of the memories I have.
I lived in Bronx River during this time. The parties in Bronx River Center during the winter, and behind the Center during the summer time were epic. Bam. Zumbu, Islam and Jazzy Jay played all of these classics.
Grand wizard... Mixing Paradise & I can't stop!! Original Disco sounds B4 it was called Hip-hop! Theodore one of the best things in the beginning of this music style of scratching & mixing! Shout out to DJ Divine The Infinity Machine, South Side, Jamaica Queens, u better ask somebody!

@@3hooks781 There was only one disco Star Wars theme, by Meco. It was released in fall of '77 and immediately shot to the top of the charts. I recognized it the moment the needle dropped. It's wild hearing it in the middle of a hip-hop groove.
@@ElaineThompson You are correct! Back then it just seemed like disco and star wars were everywhere! I think I was confusing the song with the John WIlliams disco version of Close Encounters.
Hello ur a year younger than my son. The Super Babies of 1985, 86 & 87 love this unique mix of amazing music, because The Ol Skool Parents, (young like Me 😉) played this & other music around Our Children to hear, as well as appreciate all kinds of music. ✌🏾 ☮️ Peace & Blessings ❤

Sorry to cast doubt on this but Shangri La wasn't released until 1978? I mean there may have been promos of it around earlier, but a year earlier? Hmmmm......
1977??? Then it Had to be after May 25, 1977 because Star wars premiere...La Pregunta - Shangri La Had no promos and released in 1978. Sounds like he was cutting a clean copy also take note if you listen carefully - NO Scratching or Rubbing yet around this time just Merry go round Cuts on a belt Drive TT with lots of Plastic and a 45 glued to the mat underneath ;). The Rapping Style fits into 1978. This tape was probably recorded with a JVC Boombox. They had dope built in mikes
so considering is a sample from star wars, this is after june 77, interesting see how almost all was there by this time, i don´t consider the rappop in the charts hip hop, just pop icons.
