I was there almost every weekend from the beginning ... . Could not get enough of the place... Thank God for Russ Gibb and the Grande.... To see the beginnings of all those bands that made it big is something to relish. One of the Best times of my life.. I'm glad I was born in My Generation... I think the Who said that first.. :)

I was born the year the Grande died (1972) so unfortunately I wasn’t able to experience it. But by listening to the MC5 and Stooges, I can appreciate and respect the power and spirit of that hallowed ground of pure Detroit rock. I went by there a couple years ago and it’s still there but as those pictures show, the inside is in extremely bad shape. I just wish that someone would come along and restore her to her once mighty glory. After all, if they can bring the Michigan Central Station and Book-Cadillac Hotel back to life, they should do that to the Grande as well.

I was in a band - Echoes from a Broken Mirror - played there twice in early 1967.. before I was even out of high school. At that time 1966 thru early 1967 - it was mostly local groups, slowly moving to national and international acts. I saw Cream, Zep, Procol Harum, my friends Third Power, on and on and on. Climbing that staircase up and to the left..

I've been going in there a dozen times, and it's worse and worse inside. Michigan weather, especially winter, is brutal...and the insides were plaster and lathe... The floors are literally popping up, the ceilings falling in- I was lucky enough to get some of the player birds cut out of the columns. People frown on it, but the place will eventually fall in on itself or be bulldozed. There's absolutly no way this place can be fixed.

5 million dollars for that venue is way way overpriced.

@@starnorthtoflintridge6657If it were falling apart the way it is on the outside and less so on the inside. If there were "famous fixtures" all kinds of signed something or others. If the interior was mostly there and 50-75% restorable I could see that price being reasonable because your buying the items these wasted Musicians stumbled into, onto, tripped over. Their smoke adorns the walls, fixtures, stairways etc. Sadly the History is gone and all that's left are the memories which are great but those in charge let the History slip away!
