You may feel retro when you play now, but if you want to play an orthodox RPG, you can enjoy it. The battle system is interesting with a unique turn system.
Bro, you have big idea what you are missing out on. This is EASILY the most underrated JRPG ever made. It's up there with FF7 in terms of story and quality. It's a shame the franchise could never quite keep up the standard this one held.
As a lifelong violinist and chamber musician, I gotta say the string sample here sounds utterly fantastic, some of the best and most realistic I've ever heard! I don't know much about music production/technology, but assuming that you had to combine various string samples and apply filters and all that jazz to arrive at the final string sample (or whatever you call a combination of samples/filters/etc.), huuuuuge kudos to you!
Thanks so much for the comment! That's exactly what I did. I combined string samples from three different libraries throughout the piece and tweaked the mic positions, reverb, and EQ to get the exact sound I wanted. It sounds complicated, but it's really just a matter of recognizing when a sample sounds too weak for a particular part, and then finding a sample that complements it.
You mean thank Valmar (not the second one) because if you paid attention to the story the original Valmar saw that Granas was making the people weak and too reliant and that only disaster awaited them and chose to believe in the strength of Humanity to fend for themselves and stood up against the Tyrant Granas. After the fight was over she let herself be killed and chopped into pieces and sealed away believing that so long as God's exist Humans will never find their own strength and reach their full potential. The second one was just a villain through and through seeing as it's core was just a greedy power hungry bishop from a false church based on lies. Though technically too some small extent the original Valmar still did show herself from time to time, like with the blind girl up to even sparing her soul, and when you get possessed by the Horn and it offers you power at the cost of your humanity but after you reject it and choose to believe the same thing the original Valmar did you instead get a sword. Or in the entire Millenia thing in which it granted Elena's suppressed side to not only have its own life but in the end gave both sides their own desires while arguably a second Granas in Elena and a third Valmar in Millenia.
Not sure what part of Valmar's body was, but I felt bad for the little girl. I mean, the only bad thing she did was being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This felt so wrong, even a douchebag like Ryudo started realizing how messed up his "mission" was.
"Let those who war with life forfeit their own!" Mareg had some of the best battle quotes. Thank you for choosing a piece from the high point of this sadly dead series. I hope you could try your hand at Battle 3 from the first Grandia. It is hands down the best battle theme in existence and I'd love to hear your take on it, if you want to of course.
@@JASpiring Uh duh, I know about that port, but that doesn't mean it's a new Grandia title nor does it mean there's any interest in continuing the series. It's just a port for banking on fan nostalgia, like they did with Grandia II on PC. It's not a sign they're reviving Grandia in any way.
@@Flegan777 I would rather they not continue and enjoy the memory. As companies either release a subpar product or turn it into a micro transaction disaster.
Playing through Grandia II right now and just found this. Great job, I love the remix and how you keep all the songs faithful to the original. Appreciate your work!
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic Thank you for the reply, that's great to hear that you're interested in doing them, the Grandia soundtracks are out of this world, and the fan base is small but incredibly dedicated! Would it be possible for you to upload an extended version of this arrangement somewhere?? No worries if not. Thanks again!
Another masterpiece! Thank you, Malcolm! Ever since I found you, I wanted to hear a Grandia or Suikoden piece from you, and you actually made one! ^^ I'm a little sad by the fact, that this is the only Grandia cover, what you've had plans for, but... maybe in the future, there'll be more! :D Thank you again!
@@MalcolmRobinsonMusic Have you already planned to stop releasing new orchestrations? We can wait 5 years to get to FF9 if you're gonna do 7 and 8 first.
