As a teenager whose school now trains us to be prepared for an eventual shooting (they put us in situations where we are timed and need to lock door, close lights, block door, etc.) I can say that I don’t want to learn how to survive a school shooting, I want the government to put their efforts in preventing them.
Why would they do that, that means less money put towards wars we start, or deaths to make us scared so we fall for their tricks and we become a socialist society.
I remember years ago while I was in elementary we'd have these drill that where we had to close the windows and lock the doors they said it was in case someone that wasn't supposed to be on the campus was on the campus and only now I realize how messed up that was
Yea, arm the teachers. If everyone has a gun, no one will pull a gun. Notice they always hit soft targets, or rather, the soft target receive the most casualties.
Linette Britton we’d have to practice lockdowns in elementary school. Turn of all the lights, shut the blinds, lock the doors, sit clustered in a corner and be silent. It’s only looking back that I realize how fucked up that is
Yeah, some of these comments that just trash the meaning and say “well gUnS aRe iMpOrTaNt!11,!!” And it breaks my heart because I am one of those Xs. I was thirteen, and I had four baby siblings in the same Pre-K to 12 school. The oldest sibling was eleven. It enrages me to see so may people just step on the meaning of this song without thinking.
Prince Havoc it hit me hard too. Reminds me of a story I heard: a shooting was happening at a school and a Kindergarten teacher told all of the kids in her class to hide in their cubbies, and they did. When the shooter came in and asked her where the kids were, she said they were in the gym (which no kids were in there in the entire school) and he left, but before he did he shot and killed the teacher. That teacher single-handedly saved over 20 children.
@Datmemeboi thank goodness we were not at Parkland but, unbelievably, one of our former choir kids was at Saugus High School last week. This gives us even more reason to sing grandson's song again and again. xoxThe West Los Angeles Children's Choir

This was the first thing I listened to after my school was the most recent victim. A month ago I commented “shivers.” I’ve never related more now. This song blasted on our car speakers as we rushed to pick up my young sisters from another school. The older one (11) ran into my arms sobbing. When I woke up that morning to hear the news (I was out sick) the first thing I asked was “how many?” We got lucky here in Noblesville. Never again should a 14 year old have to ask how many of her friends are dead.
Madison Riley's Spam/Channel gosh that’s absolutely terrible. I hope your daughter wont suffer from ptsd or anything like that. Im very sorry for your losses
Indeed .people never address the root of the problem so nothing gets accomplished it’s so sad .I’m so fucking sick of politicians exploiting these tragedies for their own selfish interests children are dying and all their care about is themselves
I remember when this song was released after the parkland shooting. Four years ago when I was a freshman in highschool.. It's now been a full year since I graduated. Nothing changed. Nothing truly got accomplished. I refuse to ever have children if I have to worry about just sending them to school.

@@isnotmimi what I'm saying is that killing never solves anything. The Doctor believes so too as (presumably) Grandson does. That's why I put this comment up.
there is nothing more horrifying, from an outsider point of view, than seeing multiple comments that say some variation of 'this is still relevant' and you look at the date for them and they were posted 3 years ago, 1 year ago, and 2 hours ago (besides the actual shootings). this comment section is honestly a timeline of US shootings since March of 2018 and i don't understand why your government won't do anything. (date is 25th of may (gmt) and ted cruz tweeting about keeping the families of texas in his prayers reminded me of this song.)
A lot of the people in America don’t like the way things are, but no one in power listens, and if they do there are enough people who value precious guns over little kids to keep us paralyzed. I’m moving to Canada.

it’s so heartbreaking how i’ve become so desensitized to everything, just growing up in such a violent and hateful time.. from 9/11 to sandy hook to all the mass shootings and police brutality that occurs every day. i turn on the tv and it doesnt even affect me anymore. i mean, yes it breaks my heart to see all the victims and the hurt and pain that everyone is going through.. but im just, slowly accepting that no one in power cares about these people and their safety and we’re all just left to fend for ourselves..
Honestly, it would be so much better if he didn't have to make *this* kind of songs, but I suppose that students protesting and this passive aggressive genre of songs is the only way anyone fights against gun violence these days, so I'm glad for such little treasures as is this song...

.... Since when does the amount of words matter? The greatest statements have been made with the fewest words. Let's get a few examples up here. "With great power; comes great responsibility" "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." "Simple morality dictates that unless and until someone can prove the unborn human is not alive, we must give it the benefit of the doubt and assume it is (alive). And, thus, it should be entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" "An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind." "Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live." "From the deepest desires often come the deadliest hate." "A man can do what he wants, but not want what he wants." "Life without love is meaningless, but love without life is also meaningless." "Everything that ends can never be had again, and since everything ends everything is priceless."
I’m siick writing this..,19 elementary schoolers and 3 of they’re teachers all gone, 10 days after 10 people were just shopping and their lives were ended. I’m so so sorry to those kids we couldn’t save and to all the future victims of mass attacks, the families lose a loved one and the survivors are forever traumatized..we need this to stop..please!
I love the message of this song. Note the chorus: "No thought, no prayers can bring back what's no longer there" Doing nothing is getting nothing done. Keep your thoughts and prayers because they're not helping. Stand up and fight for what's right in order to make a true difference.
I agree. Though, I interpreted it as the voices of the children that were killed. It may sound kinda dark but it sounds like they're condemning the people from the past who felt bad but didn't do anything to keep their deaths from happening.
I really can't describe the feelings I felt when I saw Grandson play this song live in 2019 and the name of my hometown scrolled by with names of other cities with school shootings. It's a really powerful song and important message.
I don’t live in America, I don’t even live in a place where guns can be carried freely, but this song is so important and speaks so much truth. The whole world needs to change.
Snippy zee Captain’s minion the fact that I'll be able to carry a gun on me when I move to texas is about half the reason I'm moving there. It is what makes America great
Just a comment from a friend from Brasil: We don't have acess to guns here, they've become illegal in 2003 (not because people wanted, because the governament fucked us), but guess what.. our murder rate by guns is 5 (FIVE!!) times bigger than in the U.S., and they only increased since then. Normal citizens can't get acess to weapons, but CRIMINALS GET THEM ANYWAY, and there's nothing that will stop them. "All nations where guns are banned have less crime and murder in general." - Yeah, right. Get your fucking facts right, and don't fucking lose your right to own a gun, because here we are trying hard to regain ours. Your problem aren't guns, and if you really think it is, please, change place with me, I'd love to live in U.S, have a gun and actually be able to AT LEAST protect myself from the monstruous number of daily murders and robbers. *I'm replying this everytime I see an anti-gun comment, because.. oh boy, it looks like people don't like to think*

Lots of people care about school shooting. They just disagree on how to stop them. You cant take peoples guns in a country like america. There are SO MANY guns and the right to bear arms is so deeply ingrained that an attempt to do so would cause more bloodshed than school shooting ever have. Anyway what we need is much more money devotes to school security. Tight gun laws or even banning private gun ownership wouldn't get rid of guns. Did banning drugs get rid of drugs? Schools just need to be safer.
My school got shot up today. Even though there were numerous threats of a shooting, the head of an animal corpse in the courtyard, and words spray painted on the windows, nothing was done to prevent the tragedy. And now at least three are dead. I don’t know how to process this. I just find myself back at this song.
If ur classmates didn’t bully him, it probably would’ve never happened. At some point y’all kids are gonna have to take accountability for ur behavior. Ur not victims, ur still alive, so move on. Everybody else has moved on. The shooter was the victim and the kids he shot are the victims. The rest of rather then cryin bout surviving should instead forgive and figure out how to be happy that ur alive. And don’t tell me bout ptsd, im getting old and I guarantee I’ve lived a way worse life than u or any of ur friends. I got bad ptsd from some of the things I’ve seen and done in life. Death doesn’t bother me, cowardice does. I’m not trying to put a bandage on u like everyone else, but I’m not trying to bully u neither. I’m actually trying to help u move on and telling u some introspective tools. I’m not justifying what he did, im just helping u understand y he might have did what he did. Some people are evil, he’s gone now. So let him go. And don’t tell me it’s not easy, (cuz like I said I got bad ptsd, diagnosed legally), forgiveness is for letting go. The sooner u realize, the sooner ull be free
The way that I am scared to go to school for the fear I might be shot. I’ve been in a school shooting before. I’ve seen my own friends get shot. I’ve had to hide in the back room where we hope we get found. No it wasn’t the “quiet kid”. It was a grown man. They kill who they can kill and some of then get out with no scratches while my friends bodies lay on the floor. Everytime I hear a fire work I think of hiding in my closet. This song speaks the truth. No kid should experience what I had to.
you are the only one who can defend yourself. learn to use a knife. or better yet, guns. dont let fear consume you, if you dont fight others will get hurt, and you cant hide forever.
@@20tigerpaw20 if by this you are saying that you're against guns law restrictions, know that this logic is kinda flawed. Let's make an example: Guy 1 has gone crazy, so he goes to buy a gun and starts shooting around in his school. Guy 2 has a gun too, so he shoots at guy 1 to stop him. Best possible scenario: one death, guy 1 is dead. Worst possible scenario: guy 1 and a lot of people are dead. Now, immagine if there weren't any guns available: there wouldn't be any victims, or at least less victims, because there is always the possibility to buy guns illegally, but it's way more difficult than to just buy a gun at the supermarket. No guns, less deaths.
@@ilovepancakes2545 if guy 1 wants to get a gun to shoot people, laws are NOT going to stop him. if guy 2 wants a gun to stop bad people, he will be stopped from getting one under "gun control". criminals are called such because they...guess what? DONT. OBEY. LAWS. also, people are denied the sale of a gun more often then you think, as gun store owners do watch/listen for clues that a person may be crazy/not in their right mind/a bit too angry/etc.
@@20tigerpaw20 well, I can agree that people that really want to kill someone else will always find a way to buy a gun, but it's way more difficult to buy them illegally, don't you think? You have to know the right people and stuff, it's quite easy to make a straight face and act normal at a gun shop. I am from Europe, and guns aren't available for sale, and guess what? There has never been I school shooting in my city. Neither in other cities. Which kinda proves my point, I think.

can we all just take a minute to talk about how grandson knows what he's talking about? I'm not even talking about his opinions on the situation like whether Republicans vs Democrats is better for society. no, he actually is informed on the issues of today's culture. he's someone in our generation who, instead of using his platform to talk about sex, drugs, love, he talks about real issues. that is why he will always be one of my favorite artists. edit: let's think. maybe if America has lots of school shootings, we should take away the very guns that cause them.
@Yuri Soyboyka please take a minute to notice something. I did not insult the artist or anyone's opinion. I did not even give mine, nor did grandson. maybe I have the same view as you, maybe I dont. all I did was say that I thought that it was an amazing outlet that a person was choosing to speak out against school shootings. yes, they are tragic. but I did not give my opinion to how I think the best way to approach them would be. I simply spread a little positivity to the artist, which we dont even have enough of. I do not care for anyone's political views. I am simply here for the music 💛
Yuri Soyboyka PKAY this is an issue that isn’t going to be solved in this comment section cause our massive government can’t! What you should realize is why do we only care about gun control when the violence came to white comunities gang violence has always been in an issue. Young blacks kids getting shot who cares cries our government. Suburbs kids get shot oh no we have to do something. I don’t buy people fighting for gun rights as genuine just because of their hypocrisy. That’s my own opinion pay attention to what people aren’t talking about not what they are.
@Yuri Soyboyka legal of course; when someone bring facts into a situation an opinion is invalid, guns are causing more problems than solving currently, that is a fact, and I agree with gun ownership. Ignoring the problem doesn't solve it, grandson is not making anything up, this is the what's going on in our country, you can not deny that.

I remember my 7th grade year, in 2008, going on lockdown because there was a armed man outside the school. It turned out to be a 38 year old man in psychosis with a history of mental illness, most our doors where full glass, the only reason there wasn't a massacre at my school was because the doors where locked, one of the voices in his head told him if the doors where locked he couldn't go in and kill people. He was armed with a shot gun and hand gun. I could've died if that man didn't listen to that one semi-moral psychotic voice in his head. I think the most traumatized person was the boy who was late for class at his locker when he just glanced out the side door and saw a man with a shot gun trying to come in. That man could've easily shot through that door and that boy wasn't even 10 feet away from him.

This song legit makes me cry. It genuinely hurts, I can distinctly remember my 4th grade teacher cried to us on the anniversary of Columbine because she lost her son in that shooting. I distinctly remember in 3rd grade my school went into lockdown because there was an armed man. Nothing bad happened, but I went home in tears. I remember my parents picked me and my brother up after his school locked down because there was an armed student on his campus. I remember distinctly when the Arapaho shooting happened. The same school my brother graduated from was shot up. I remember this probably the most vividly because I had 3 friends there. My mom called in for me to be picked up. She picked me up crying. My two friends were shot. One was killed, the other had internal bleeding but survived. My brothers friends little brother was also shot. I remember the school my cousin went to. Was shot. She was alive. These happen way to fucking often. I remember my friend came to me crying because his friend was shot and killed on Valentine’s Day. I remember my best friend calling me crying, when my school went on lockdown because he’s in another fucking country and couldn’t stand it if I was killed.

We're all on here counting the number of mass shootings. This video was posted on March 23rd of 2018. Since then there have been 603 shootings. 334 of which were THIS year. Of course, some of them are less severe than others, but what does that matter? Grandson is constantly writing songs about our own country and what it is and what it's becoming. I still think this song is the most powerful, as it continues to apply to every. Single. Day.
I've never heard of grandson until a little over a week ago. The first song I've ever heard was Blood//Water and I fell in love with it. It was deep, it had a meaning, and it was just my type of style. Every other song never failed to reach my expectations and I have truly feel in love with grandson. I've become to realized how underrated grandson is, and he deserves much more than the small fan base he is. Now this song? Is my favorite. I live in California and today was my first day of high school and I understand this song so much more than I use to. Do I think the rules are going to change soon? No. Having a gun is in our constitution, which means it will never be banned. However, rules should be stricter and we should follow out with these rules. My middle school is right next to my high school and last year I remember hearing that my current high school might go home early due to someone on the internet saying they were going to shoot up the school. Grandson never disappoints and i'm proud to be a grandson.
Same here, found him though blood/water and have been addicted to his other stuff. I wish you luck dealing with the horrors how that America is becoming. Times like this being down in NZ feels like a blessing.
And now there is the Texas shooting. They were children. Innocent. Every one with a life as vivid and rich as you reading this comment. Kids who deserved to grow up. Teachers protecting them died, a mother.
As am Indian, literally the complete opposite side of the world I'm scared. Namely because where I live there's a lot of violence already happening in schools ,(busses getting pelted with rocks while children are still inside, some violence cases where I live) recently a girl was shot in the head while exiting her college in broad daylight, nothing was done about it. I don't want to be in the next "America", I don't want a "free" nation if there's no justice.
Why aren't powerful, relevant songs like this played on the radio instead of raps about strippers and sex? Edit: There’s a lot of “fake deep” comments and a lot of condescending things under this comment. I posted this the day after my school had its second shooting/bomb threat in ten months, so while I admit I was especially emotional about the topic, people don’t have to be so sharp and rude to each other. C’mon guys :/
Because the in the entertainment business, sex, money, and drugs is what they had decided to promote and we live in that culture they've created. Now, it's hard to transition it away from what they've promoted. Not too many parents nowadays teaching their 12-year-old children that some of their "music" isn't really okay to be listening to.
I just heard the news and I'm back again how many more times does this have to happen until something changes.. They were so young.. I'm so heartbroken
@@agustinbenavidez4145 El comentario después de dónde escribiste Argentina. Creo que deberia ser: I think that's is why the guns here are illegal O I think that's why guns should be illegal
The saddest part about the video is that these are only the school shootings that happened not even in the last 30 years, it begins in 1990. It is so many, and it only gets sensationalized by the media. (Pumped up kicks?)
Em L the song tells a story. A story of a kid who gets abused bullied and harrased and it results to using drugs to "alleviate" the pain and when he finds his dads gun he takes the chance to get revenge. It's a sad story telling the tale of what has really happened before. It tries to tell the story to stop it. Not promote it.
+Eden But at the end of the day, you can't deny some - if not most - people take the song (Pumped Up Kicks) out of context or just don't understand the context of the song at all in the first place, and thus sensationalize it because all THEY are hearing are catchy beats instead of the deeper meaning behind the song. That being said, I still respect Pumped Up Kicks for what it actually is.
I think sensationalize is the correct term, it's a selling point for the NRA and its supporters to get guns into more people's hands. I Remeber the good ole days when gun commercialization was for hunting or shooting sport.. Not home protection...
So true. It hits so badly for me over here in america. I sucks. The riots keep coming, I keep hearing gun shots. I even have restless nights. I'm only a kid for christ sake. I dont wanna be going through this so soon.
@@GABGABGABSHARP It might get better, but in truth things will just keep declining over all. I live in Kansas, and it feels like a delay to the ways some people in cities would live. I eventually realized that was entirely wrong when police want to arrest me for "trespassing" if I go off the roads or public places. Not too long ago, I was walking along the same railroad tracks my dads used to walk, and the people before him. I was just having a nice walk seeing what was about. A cop pulls over, tells me its a federal charge if he arrests me. He didn't arrest me because giving a 14 year old a federal charge for walking on non government property is insane. It gets worse each year too. Im sure it will be fun with whatever else essential to modern day life they ban. Fire, and "trespassing", hunting are basic parts of life my dad had that I don't. They are so basic one may die without them. If you are a kid, look at your future, do something before its too late. Even just saving some money or gardening is something.
I wish this would've been released 2 days earlier when I had to write an essay about a song of my choice, I looked for hours to find a song with actual meaning, in the end I took some random song, BUT THIS ONE IS AWESOME AND I'M MAD NOW
Eden has many meaningful songs but I personally like Stephen allot more, peep the song crossfire & sincerely if haven't already heard them. peace always
tu ta em todo canal gringo que eu vo man :D dk apco fala que ja foi no NightBlue, mas enfim... essa música é mto top man, EUA sofrendo com esse armamento exagerado, e com esses assassinos :c
And the next X...... How many X's need the U.S.A to change something? Amazing and incredible touching song. Our thoughts are with every victim, their family and friends... ... from Germany R.I.P
The answer isn't to take our guns away. I think parents need to start being more involved with their kids(won't answer everything of course); there will NEVER be an 'end all be all' answer. Violence happens and it will always happen.
I’m a junior. I’ve been trained on how to open, break, and jump out of windows. I’ve been taught where the best places to hide behind things are so I don’t get shot, where to run to if I make it out of the building. I’ve been taught what classroom objects are best to through at an armed intruder. My teachers keep buckets of rocks next to their desks to throw at an armed intruder or break a window. A lot of my classes don’t even have windows. And that’s only in the recent year, before they trained us to be sitting ducks. I remember one time in middle school we had a code yellow drill and my teacher had to pre-clear out her closet to fit us in, and we all still couldn’t fit, there were quite a few kids standing out side of the closet, how could this be affective in any way? In six other first world countries, Canada, France, England, Germany, Japan, and Italy, there have been a reported 5 total school shootings since 2009, America has had 288(where at least one person is shot). They’re solution is to train us, children, all the way down to kindergarten children on how to fight for our lives instead of even TRYING to fix it. Sorry that this was so long but I’ve had a lot to say for a long time. Thank you for taking the time to read this❤️
America is different. We cannot argue the same solutions will operate in the same manner. Further, there's still firearm crime in other countries, and after firearms were outlawed there was a *spike* in firearms crime. And one last thing. Plastic arms. Adapt or die. If not, we're going to have things look even worse soon.
@@KoishiVibin I know the same things won’t happen, and I never said I want to ban firearms, because I don’t. I don’t think that will work, frankly I can’t think of very many solutions that would, but I don’t think training children down to kindergarten should be their only call to action, and it’s only in the recent year my state has started doing this, before they basically left us to die. Children nor teachers in the US know how to solve this, what do you want us to do, be trained like body guards? It’s not up to the people in schools to prevent shootings it’s up to the government to try to find a way to stop people from wanting to do these things and to have access. I think personally the best call to action would be to crack down a lot on firearm safety and people ability to handle firearms, as well as mental health
